  • Just sang this tune at a jazz jam this weekend. You do it better, and love your easy rendition of the chords!

  • why not post more songs, like ur voice

  • Beautifully played.

You'd be my hero if you'd only make a tutorial for this.

Does anyone know where to get the tabs for this tune?

  • Thanks, I'm new to the ukulele. I played guitar semi pro for years so I just play the uke like a guitar. I use low G tuning for the tenor and low D for the baritone. Can't sing though.

  • GREAT VOICE!!! So many times I'll hear people sing on youtube that just have NO SHAME and really should't be singing in public. You are not one of those. I enjoyed your playing also. I play this song on my channel, but I don't sing for the same reason I listed above. Keep it up and Thanks!!!

  • @9825604 Thanks so much! I just checked our your version of this song, and it's dynamite! I wish I could play like that. My playing could benefit a lot from watching your videos, and that's just what I'm going to do! Thanks again.

  • Hey, MrJellyroll! Hana hou! Encore!

  • @mccamster Thank you! Mahalo Nui Loa!

  • @1402Nadine Thanks very much!

  • this is awesome! do you happen to have the chords you used?

  • @andthenising

Thanks! I do not, but the piano music (with chord names) is readily available online (that's what I was working from). Have fun!

  • Wonderful. Oh. Wonderful. Tears. This is so nice. I'm smiling and crying at the same time.

  • @MidnightSwinger Thank you very much! I sure do appreciate your comment!

  • I'm in the L.A. area. You're serving pizza at your wedding?

    ;^)

  • How far are you from San Francisco? Do you take pizza for payment? :P

  • Please come play/sing this at my wedding next year! :)

  • @Micknbuggie28

Gladly! Just send me a plane ticket (and feed me).

  • This was a sheer delight! Your "headless" laid back approach to your recording belies the talent and your expert singing and playing style. This was a great tune, and really well done! Thank you.

  • @MrJellyrollBaker

Well, I'll look forward to 2011 then!

  • This is amazing! I just started playing the ukulele and I would LOVE to learn this song! Could you send me the chords perhaps? Thanks and great job! :)

  • @Carbear65 Thanks for the nice words. I learned this song from the sheet music years ago. I've long since lost track of the book, but the chords are readily available online nowadays. Good luck with it, and welcome to the world of the ukulele!

  • @lajillycat

See now, with just five words, you made my entire weekend (mostly the last two).

    Thank you for that!

  • Great job...where does one find the chords?

  • @1956etol Hi 1956etal. If you Google "Wink and a Smile" sheet music, you should find it with no problem!

  • this is so fantastic. are there any tabs to this anywhere at all?!

    truly amazing.

  • @eyeheartrockss Thanks so much for the kind words. When I wanted to learn this song, I had to buy the "Sleepless in Seattle" songbook, & work from the piano score, which had the chord names listed... now you can purchase the sheet music to this song from any number of digital sheet music sites.

    Thanks again.

  • @MrJellyrollBaker thanks so much, im pretty inspired, if you dont mind i might learn the same :) if i can......

  • @eyeheartrockss By all means!- have fun with it! It's a fun song to play. (although every time I play it, I wish I had a trumpet player with me (and maybe a tuba).

  • fantastic!

this is such a sweet tune. are there any tabs to this? where/ how did you learn it?

  • Nice sound and nice vice!!

  • @japon7171 Thank you very much.

  • Dude! One video uploaded two years ago? You're awesome so upload some more songs!!

  • @tygh80 Hi, and thanks! I've been meaning to get around to that...but life keeps getting in the way! I will redouble my efforts- thanks again.

  • I can't help coming back to this again and again and again. Did you know that this is a HUGE hit at our place? Your performance sooo nails this tune.

I think this is quite possibly the best use of a ukulele anyone could ever dream of. Oh, and that voice! Beautiful. Just beautiful...

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @wininboy

Wininboy, you are too, too kind! You know I'm a big fan of your music, and a compliment from you is like 10 compliments from regular folks...or 20-30 compliments from my mother...

    Thank you!!

    (Did I mention I'm a big fan?... I think I mentioned that))

  • Oh my goodness...I did a version of this and it doesn't even compare! Loved it! :)

  • @ErinBev

ErinBev- I enjoyed your version very much! Thank you for the comment.

  • Just saw this and thought it was perfect. Great work. Thanks, Loon

  • @UkeeDreamer

    Thanks, Loon!!

  • Wonderful! Great song, great voice, great uke!!!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Hadn't seen you before- nice playing and singing on a lovely uke. I've wanted to do this song for a while and could never feel good about it. You nailed it.

  • Thanks for the nice words! Now I need to find a trumpet player to play it with me! 8^)

  • Perfect. Perhaps better than the original! :) You have a fantastic voice.

    Keep 'em comming!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Lovely song and fine relaxed playing and singing

  • Thank you, sir! I enjoy your videos as well...I see you play one of my favorite model ukes, and we have at least one hat in common!

  • Really nice.

  • Thanks!

  • Very nice!

Great playing your voice is just wonderful.

    Straight into my favourites!

  • Thanks so much! I just discovered your channel, & your playing is terrific. haven't heard you sing (yet), but I haven't heard 'em all yet either!

  • Nice!!!

  • Thanks!!

  • You can't possibly look funnier when you sing than I do. Move the camera so we can see you sing.

Didn't Harry Connick Junior sing this?

  • I look funny whether I'm singing or not! That's not why I shot it that way, though... I made this video to demo this particular ukulele for a friend, so I was trying to feature the uke. -I'll move the camera next time- thanks!

Yes- Harry Connick Jr performed this song for the movie soundtrack, with a big band. Keith Carradine performed it on the academy awards that year.

  • brilliant, well played..

  • Thank you very much!

  • Very nice! Love it. Any chance you'll post the tabs?

  • Thank you! I'm sorry-

I don't have the tabs- I learned it years ago from the sheet music (which is much easier to find now than it was years ago).

  • What a cool song. I don't remember this one. Your voice sounds great! so natural and soulful too. The uke's great too, perfect chords with this song. Those of you that "can't see his head", it's in the avatar photo on the left of the Youtube screen.

  • Hey- thanks, sweenus! That means a lot coming from you. I can't believe YOU haven't posted on here. You could be a sensation! You would surely be viral!

...er...I mean, in a good way!

  • Now that's how it's done with an ukulele! Great song choice, sophisticated arrangement, deft playing and a sweet singing voice. Bravo! When are we going to hear more?

  • Hey, thanks very much!

(More?..er... well, I'll work on that!)

  • Wow, that's classic! It's got a great old time feel to it.

  • @hoosierhiver Thanks very much! (Sorry to respond so late)

  • Wonderful.

  • @ukejon Thank you!

  • very good, can we see your face next time maybe... alan

  • great.

    who´s singing ?

    go on.

  • That's me. Same guy that's playing. Not easy, singing without a head like that...

  • Wonderful! Great playing and great singing.

But next time I'd like to see your and the ukes head. ;)

  • Thank you!

  • Adorable!

  • Thanks!

  • Great song and great performance. Why in the world did you make it private?!?!

  • Thanks! I kept thinking I would record it again, with a real mic...and a better shirt...and a head.

  • Oh man you are great...PLEASE Join The Icicle Club :o)

  • The icicle Club?? I'll check it out.

    And Thanks!

  • splendid !! :D

  • Thanks! Say- I've been thinking about getting one of them there melodicas lately! I was thinking a basic Hohner alto? Good choice??

    Thanks again!

  • sounds good man!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Thanks very much!

  • Nice modulation at the end! Awesome all around!

  • Thanks, John!

  • Sweet sweet song, play and voice... A pleasure to hear you sing. The 3K... outch ! A dream...

Now on my iTunes and iPhone to listen again and again. Thank you Ernie.

  • Thank you, very much!

  • Haha! Thanks for the nudge Neal, or should I say the kick(s) in the pants. I'm trying! ..Thanksgiving...In-laws in town...4 kids...my fingernail broke... the dog ate my sheet music...

  • Thanks, Zaza! I made it public for about two minutes, and then changed it back to private. I want to re-record it, & then make it public. Thank you for the compliment!

  • Good decision! Show the people. And don't forget your head.

  • Hey Ernie, did you finally go public with this excellent video?! One of the best ukulele vids on youtube, no doubt. Great voice, great ukulele accompaniment.

  • Wow, Neal- thank you for the kind words! I just watched your videos, and your playing knocked me out! I'm off to post comments accordingly. Thanks again for the comment!

  • Had to have another look to end the day.

This is just so very good! I've rarely seen someone get so much music out of such a little instrument.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks, wininboy! That means a LOT coming from such an accomplished & expert player as yourself! You just made my day!

  • Hey Ernie, what kind of strings do you use on the 3K?

  • Hey zaza. I have it strung with Worth clear strings- I don't remember which set, but either medium or hard-tension.

  • google a wink and a smile + chords and you'll find it without a problem. i've tried to post the link several times but it doesnt work.

  • That's good to know. Funny- at the time I was looking for it, I couldn't even find a reference to it online (including YouTube). I see there are several videos covering it now.

  • Beautiful! That Laughlin 3K looks good and sounds even better. Smooth and relaxed singing. My wife, Julie loved it too and she wants me to learn this song. Are you able to email me the chords? Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting! Encore!

  • Thanks BeareTube! Yes- Tim Laughlin is a phenomenal, and builds a much better Martin than Martin does these days, in my opinion. I'm glad you like the song- I'll dig around for the chords for you- Thanks for the kind words!

  • Erm... I hesitate to ask, but as long as your digging for chords, you'd do me a great favour if you'd send them to me also? Much obliged!

Sounds like your uke is tuned in D, or am I wrong?

And yes, as ever, Terry is right, you are a natural!!

  • Hi Winninboy- of course I'll send you the chords as well. I worked it up from piano sheet music, but with chord names written above the staff. I know I have it around here somewhere. The uke is actually tuned in C, but the song modulates from the key of C to C# near the end...and Thanks!

  • Ernie, this is great!

Your Laughlin 3K is beautiful to look at and sounds sublime too. Smooth and easy singing. You're a natural! Maybe one day we'll get together and harmonize?

My wife, Julie is very impressed also. She wants me to learn that song and sing it to her. Truly! Are you able to send me the chords?

BTW The traffic noises somehow added to it also! ;)
