  • Hi everyone! I just wanted to comment on those that broke out or became itchy from mineral makeup. Many mineral brands are made with bismuth, which a lot of people are allergic or sensitive to. However, there are plenty of brands that don't use bismuth. I personally use a mineral makeup that doesn't use it. Hope that helped! Mineral makeup is amazing!

  • Mineral makeup was awful for me. I got clogged pores all over my face within a day. It took a while to clear my pores and get rid of the breakouts.

i tried 4 brands. The powder just sinks into my pores like no one business, and even after thorough cleansing and toning, apparently product was STILL left in the pores, because I got comedones and then general acne flareups very quickly as the days of wear passed. My skin produces lots of oil, so if something clogs my pores, I know quickly :(

  • Is mineral makeup safe on oily face?

  • Gosh I really hope you can respond to this: I use retin-a before bed. It was given to me to help with acne. I was wondering if its okay to use glycolic acid pads in the morning, because I always have sticky dead skin cells on around my chin area, and is highly visible with makeup, but I don't want to irritate my skin, is glycolic + retin-a is too much? So okay to use both together?

  • @smallsushicat They are absolutely fine used together, and in fact, retinoids and AHA's complement one another really well. However, since both are chemical exfoliants and thus have the potential to irritate skin, it's usually advised to use retinoids at bedtime (PM) and AHA's during the day (so, along w/your AM skin care). This way, each one can work optimally for your skin's benefit. Hope that helps! :-)

  • @visceralanding Yes that helped a lot. Thank you so much for replying.

  • @smallsushicat No problem. So glad I could help!

  • thanks doc <3 <3 <3

  • you're the best, dr schutlz! i was looking at mineral foundations the other day and realized i didn't know where to start or really why it is that mineral make up has a reputation for being good for one's skin.

  • @lookn4smitty unfortunately its just a reputation. There is horror stories from many. You gonna have to risk it and try a few.

  • Does the Peter Thomas Roth spf powder give you enough protection or is it a gimmick?

  • You always talk about exfoliating. Do you recommend exfoliating with a stronger product for like twice a week, or using a gentler one every day??

  • I love mineral makeup! Thank You doctor, for this informative video :)

  • I always love your video. Thank you very much for your information and excellent advices.

Could you please make a video about BB Cream? I heard many good comments about BB Cream, but I have oily-acne prone skin, I don't know if BB Cream is good for me. Thanks Dr. Schultz

  • @jubidzz Sally beauty supply and walgreen both cary facial lotions with 8% AHA (glycolic acid). It's not a scrub, but a lotion, however it does exfoliate chemically. They are both $10 or less. See nurberxo's channel here on YT- it's a video titled skin care routine.

  • My derm told me to not use mineral makeup lol

  • I can't use it, it produces nasty sebum bumps on my face, not pimples but nasty things that never go away and that you can see as light reflects.

  • Great video.

  • Dr. Schultz, Is silica comedogenic? i was using it in my mineral makeup with one more ingredient, and it caused me to breakout. its not allergy beacuse it happen only in the ereas that i tend to breakout. and I found that every profuct I use on my face and contains silica, caused me to break out. it happen to a lot of my friends and my sister [who dont have acne pron skin].

I find it very weird since i searched all over the internet, and didnt find anything about it.

can you give me the answer?

  • i have VERY sensitive skin, but mineral makeup messed up my face. Made it red, irritated and itchy. i wouldn't wear it if you have sensitive skin.

  • loove this beacause it is short yet gets to the point!!! : )

  • I exfoliate regularly and I can't wear mineral makeup because of the bismuth and mica. Tends to be shiny and accentuate pores plus it makes me itchy.

  • Another very informative video, thank you. (Oh, my "thank you" isn't followed by a request for free advice).

Just a plain but sincere, THANK YOU :)

  • @aussiedonna50 Wow! I'm always amazed by your type.... so self-righteous! You know, you might want to rethink that whole 'sincerity' bit. Because you seem a vile and mischievous person. Have a great day!

  • @preraphaelitebeauty Try elsewhere, I don't feed trolls like you

  • Thank you for making this video or else I would of just depend on the mineral makeup for SPF! Can I use a 10% glycolic toner for exfloaiting everyday? Does it work well?

  • Thank you for this video. I love using mineral foundations. I think they are quick & easy and I always get compliments on my skin. I hope to see more mineral makeup related videos in the future... =)

  • thanks for the video, I agree that if you don't exfoliate mineral makeup can accentuate your large pores rather than minimise them. I have a question about sunscreens..if you have a moisturiser with spf20 then put on a foundation with spf10 is the spf now spf30 or still remains spf20?

    Thank you

  • @Smaira25 Go to dermTVdotcom and search for Three Important Sunscreen Questions you will then find the answer in that video. Tried to give you the direct link but just didn't work.

  • thank you for this video. and thank you for your advice about exfoliating regularly - my skin improved considerably! I wasn't expecting much of exfoliation but it really helped and I'll keep using my exfoliating face wash daily. :)

  • @jubidzz Can I ask what kind of exfoliating fash wash you use? I'm looking around for a good one. Thank you :):)

  • @MrFlea28 I use "Clean&Clear Shine Control Daily facial scrub with bursting beads". I know Doctor Schultz recommends chemical exfoliators, but since my budget is limited, I buy cheaper stuff like this Clean&Clear and so far I like it (but probably will try other drugstore products too) :)

  • @jubidzz yeah me too. I dont think he really advocates expensive products, just make sure it contains the ingredients he says it needs :D watching his videos and applying them to my daily routine skincare really really REALLY made a effect on my skin. My skin is a lot clearer and its a lot more moisturized (my skin used to be so dry that within 2 minutes of applying moisturizer my skin would be dry again. and i tried many other moisturizers too.)

  • @tea4al I agree, he never said we had to buy expensive products. I just can't find in drugstores gycolic acid exfoliators nor the serums with vit. C. But what I can do is buy products like Clean&Clear! :) My skin, like yours, is much clearer and breakouts are so rare (I have combo skin) and even when they (rarley) happen, they last one day (before I had bad skin for days, horrible) :) yay!

  • @jubidzz They sell the "Avalon Organics" Vitamin C line of products at Target and CVS. They have one that is a face serum. That whole line contains Vitamin C!! You should check it out if you have a target near you or CVS.

  • @morochis Unfortunately I don't :((( But I will look more thoroughly for other products or brands. Thank you anyway :)

  • I just love you channel! It is informative and chock-full of bite-size knowledge! Quick question... do you advise layering products such as serums, sunscreens and moisturizers on a daily basis? Do you actually benefit when such skincare products ate pile atop each other? Thank you and keep up the awesome work!
