NY PGs for me #1Marbury #2Strickland #3Anderson #4Jackson #5Tiny Archibald #6Cousy #7Pearl Washington #8Skip to My Lou #9Sebastian Telfair (if you only do HS he's #2) #10Shammgod
but when he was 1st starting out he was nice strickland ... no argument there, kenny anderson is one of the best to ever do it marc jackson was dope but i kinda liked him better with reggie miller and the pacers :)
skip when he was in his prime? he was untouchable and telfair? he was better in high school. hes struggling in the league. hes good but hes not great. not hating just saying
Don't write off some other great 70s point guards from NYC: Butch Lee, DeWitt Clinton '74; Larry Washington, Canarsie '78; Arnold Dugger, DeWitt Clinton '75; Dean Meminger, Rice '69; Artie Green, Taft '77; Geoff Huston; Rob Wright, G.Washington '78; Mitch Walker, Van Buren '78; just to name a few.
@dburley I remember all those guys Butch played with Sam Worthen and them cats when they won it in 77 for Al Macguire, I used to love Beettle Washington hows he doing?
I'm impressed with the various lists of pg's and their pretty accurate but I just gotta give my dude Eric Singleton and honorable mention despite his ups and downs not to many cats from back in the 80's from N.Y.C were given the opportunity to play at Oak Hill Academy
ALL TIME NYC HS POINT GODS 1.Kenny Anderson, Queens Archbishop Molloy 2.Bob Cousy, Queens Andrew Jackson 3.Kenny Smith, Queens Archbishop Molloy 4.Mark"Action" Jackson, brooklyn Bishop Loughlin 5.Rod Strickland, Bronx Truman 6.Vern Fleming,Long Island City Mater Christi 7.Stephon Marbury,Coney Island Abraham Lincoln 8.Dwayne"Pearl" Washington,Brooklyn Boys and Girls 9.God Shammgod,Manhattan LaSalle Academy 10.Rafer Alston, Queens Cardozo
Are you kidding me. ROD was not only the most talented PG ever to come from the City but one of the most talented penetrators, passers and finishers ever in the NBA. Always making it look easy. Pearl was a better high school and college hooper than the other eight. Tough list though Chief!
Rafer was good, Vern Fleming was unstoppable, Sham was good, but couldnt shoot! You Had Red Autry, at Tolentine, Kenny Hutchinson, Pearl, Al Lott, Earnie Myers...I can go on and on
i would switch Kenny Smith and Rod Strickland. but I REALLY dont think people realize how good Skip was in high school. i watched him play when it was more about Steph and Felipe Lopez. dude had to get a court order to play one season just for like 6 games and dropped 33 pts in 17 muntes
everyone wants to make their lists nowadays, which is cool because it brings great debate. but Skip was the TRUTH
No No No... Mark Jackson was OK in HS, Bob Cousy I did not see. Rafer Alston only played in 31 games in HS. He was know as a street ball player.Sham was ok, all dirbble and speed could not shoot. 1. Kenny Anderson, 2. Dwayne"Pearl" Washington 3. Vern Fleming 4. Rod Strickland 5. Kenny Smith 6. Stephon MarburyLincoln 7. Nate "Tiny" Archibald, Bronx DeWitt Clinton High School 8.Mark"Action" Jackson 9. Sebastian Telfair, Coney Island Abraham Lincoln 10. David Cain, Bronx Stevenson
You not only put Vern Fleming over Rod, but also place Nate Archibald in the seven slot...?? Please review any video on YouTube with the search term of "Tiny" Archibald. He is bar-none the gold standard, and if you asked any of those guys on the list they would aree that he is the number one. David Cain to top it off...? Are you serious?
Yes I am SERIOUS! Now I guess you did not see Vern Fleming play in H.S. If you you look at Kevin's list the title says H.S., not College, not PRO. Rod is a good friend, and he would be in the TOP three if that was the case. In high school he was very good, at Truman, and better at Oak Hill. Yes David Cain, ask any ref's, coaches and players, and David Cain will make the top 10. It is obvious you need to google Tiny, only played 1 maybe 2 full seasons in H.S.
If you're going with H.S., I would move six or even seven. Vern was a great H.S. player and McDonald's AA to add, but he didn't win a State Championship on his own like Rod did in his sophomore year! As for David Cain, he had the most broke shot coming out of the City in years, and he was exposed at St. John's. You would probably be more safe to say Derrick Phelps, Ed Davender, or even 'Boo' Harvey...but not David Cain. C'mon man...
Rod did not win it on his own he had help, Ty Joy, D Brantley, Grand Pa, , CC they had a crew. Rod was the catalyst, but he had a team. D Cain won 2 City chips at Stevo. Also was 1 team all Big East 1993, if he was taller he would have been in the league. His only short coming was his height
@kevin21470 If Tiny Arch isn't number 1 on your list then redo your list. 34 and 11 for a season and led the league in scoring and assists that year - never done before or since. Was unguardable until he pulled his achilles in '77 then rehabbed and was still a beast with a bad achilles.
You don't even have him on your list at all. You're not a credible witness lol!
anyone talking shit about rod strickland is fucking crazy!! this guy was one of the top 5 PGs in the league from about '94 to 2000. Its a crime really that he never made an all star team..
NYC is known 4 thier pgs and strickland was and will also be one of the best. WORD!!! " Amazing blazing talent like rodney strick" "I was a Knick fan when they had Strickland"
Anybody can claim to make a shot like that, because we all have at one time or another. But Stric did that all the time in NBA GAMES(not at that park by your house). Also, can you make that shot after going through four NBA DEFENDERS? Yeah, right.
