I'm jealous. I wish I could watch one of her stand up bits today. Sadly, the closest thing I'll get is seeing her in that documentary How to Live Forever. She should be funny (cause she never isn't!) There's a pic of her on (on.fb. me/i6tinw)
Bob Hope and Milton Berle maintained similar "gag files", which helped their monologues and "personal appearances"; Berle was the first to computerize his and offer it for research and archival purposes...
"There's nothing wrong with updating an old joke. All you have to do is change the names to people who are living."
Phyllis Diller is in a class by herself, my personal favorite Lady of Comedy! I wish her many more years of happiness, sharing many more "re-writes" of old jokes!
"Read her book Lampshade in a Whorehouse, it sells cheap on ebay."
LOL, that almost sounds like a Phyllis one-liner in itself. I miss her very much. She first came to my attention as the voice of one of those Rankin-Bass puppets in Mad Monster Party and I've been loving her performances ever since.
I can see here how utterly charming and funny she was off-stage as well.
She's the QUEEN here in San Francisco, where she got her start. Yes, please post lots more of her, esp. the older comedy. Thanks to all the posting folks!
i totally respect this wonderful woman!! I would pay just about anything to sit down with her and just say how much she fuckin rocks!!! love the laugh and wigs. I wonder who gets to have all those files when she, god forbid!!!, dies. I bet its set to go to a museum or something. MUCH RESPECT FOR THIS ICONIC LADY! nobody even comes close.
I met her last week and let me tell you she is 100% the same in person, her laugh is genuine and she is truly funny. I had my back to the door when she walked in the room but I felt her presence like the sun coming up. A highlight of my life. Read her book Lampshade in a Whorehouse, it sells cheap on ebay.

I'd love to see more Phyllis on YouTube. She's absolutely unique. Any time I ever noticed her on TV she stopped me dead in my tracks...so to speak.

I wish somebody would post her appearance on the Phil Donahue Show.

I've seen dozens of stand up comics over the years and Phyllis Diller is by FAR the funniest comic I've ever seen.
