Bush put us in Afghanistan to replace the Russians and declared war against Iraq for multiple reasons (liberation & terrorism) which cost lives against a force that wasnt directly dangerous to the U.S. All politics aside, ive been in for 10 years and plan for 15 more and it doesnt matter who Commander and Chief is. Most of war is long moments of nothing followed by some bad times. the key is to stay alert and be ready for bad moments at any time. Its true, when you least expect it, something happens. IEDs are bad but we have a lot of technology to counter. A soldier also moves several places in a 12 month deployment and some are really bad. Watch Restrepo, that sums it up.

I went over there as a an infantry battallion (847 soldiers) and we only lost 1 due to a non combat related injury. Your chanced are better if you remember your training and act on it instantly. Stay alert, stay alive.
