The "Stephen J. Cannell Productions" logo/jingle was DEF one of my favorites, as a kid. I don't remember which show I used to see it on, but whenever I heard that jingle on the TV, I always knew it was time for bed.
yeah, i found it- im adding that to the end of my first 'epic' 'feature film' - my Scotland holiday. i'm gonna play this first then re-en-act it myself (only for good laughs)
I think on a episode of A-Team, they had a box with items they were supposedly stealing to complete their mission of something ,and it boldly said "Property of Universal Studios".
In the first logo he kind of threw the paper out in front of him while throwing it into the air and he held the page on the side and he didn't look up at the page. In 1983 he officially began the grabbing the page on the top of it and throwing it above his head then looking up at it. Stephen probably came up with the throwing the paper and looking up at the paper idea.
LOL! Aw come on jucurtis...that's not evil, that's concentration. And the music is kinda of a hard-working theme. It shows that with imagination, there's new ideas for the fiction world.
Do you think his wife Marcia had something to do with him having the pompadour? Like she wanted him to have one so to make her happy he styled his hair like that the rest of his life? He didn't always have a pompadour frequently in the 60's and early 70's like on Rockford he sometimes had a part in his hair. He also had a beard instead of the goatee I believe from the early 70's through the mid 70's before going back to the goatee forever.
I guess in late 1984 Stephen asked his company and the camera guy to record longer footage than the previous years so im guessing Mike Post took the synthesized notes and combined it with the shortened theme used occassionally at the end of Greatest American Hero to create the Cannell Productions theme we have now.
I think the second logo of him smoking while writing is more intimidating than the first one. I often wondered if there were ever any extended logos prior to late 1984?
Not that I recall. All shows prior to the 1985-86 season, they alway had the standard Cannell logo sequence (two of which were static [one with the pipe, the other without]). You'd find static variant 2 on episodes of "Hunter" & "Riptide" respectively.
It's odd though that if that's the case I wonder why on some episodes of Greatest American Hero they played the 8 synthesized notes but then they played a tune similar to the tune of Believe it or Not after the eighth note? The 8 synthesized notes were the same as they were on the late 1984-1987 logo at the end of Hunter but with the different ending.

not the same as the Revue jingle.

Taken from the third season of "The A-Team"; here, the Universal TV logo makes a straight fade to the Cannell logo, rather than a cheesy wipe effect.
mrceleb2006 4 years ago
You're right.

And the Universal TV logo making a straight fade to the Cannell logo happened for the rest of the "A-Team"'s run.
