She pretty darn cute. I can see why the producers chose her over the other girl. I remember at the time the producers saying something about Brittny's smallness and how her size made her more adorbale.

The other girl looked more like a teenager.

@Drama4496 Brittny played Annie from 1997-1999, started at 8 and lasted until she turned 12. I think at the time of the auditions Joanna had the better voice, so he chose her. However, upon noting their acting skills, Brittny had the ruggedness and acting ability Joanna seemed to lack. He liked Brittny as well because Joanna was close to the 4'8 cut off, while Brittny was only about 4'3ish when she started in the role.

Well I heard she played Annie from 8 years old to 9! She was great though! But I don't know why Martin Charnin fired Joanna and chose Britney! -Why couldn't he pick Britney for Annie after the final audtions and put Joanna as an orphan?- Isn't 7 a little young for a girl to play Annie? I thought you had to be 11 or 12 to play her! Don't freak out! I'm just wondering!

She didn't get fired. She caught bronchitis and her doctor told her mom that if she let her continue in the musical she would be charged with child abuse!!

@IsThisTourettes She was fired actually. The doctor only advised Joanna took some time off due to bronchitis. The producers could have easily put her understudy on for a week or so. Annie is supposed to be tough, not adorable. I think the three best Annies were Sarah Jessica Parker, Joanna Pacitti and of course, Andrea McArdle.
