  • Not to imagine I could hold a candle to you; I wonder, are all of the X's necessary. "Let x be the highest market price."

    later, "1x -.25x = .75x = sale pricex."

    1x = $66.64

    -25% = -$16.66

    1x -.25x = $49.98 = sale price.

    with a 2 cent remainder.

    Your still the best. -.25x = $49.98

  • hey Sal just quickly wanted to say that I think you messed up by saying that 125x5=725 when it is 625 therefore you got 94.75. I just got 93.75. not a big deal just wanted to clarify that and awesome video. thanks a lot!

  • So to put this in simple terms (no offence Sal) the key to this question is the "25% OFF" so the marked price is going to represent 75%(because 100-25=75) of the original price,so you do 0.75 divided into how ever much money you have.Thank you Sal,very good lesson.

  • calculator says 93.75. sal should comment on this lest he confuse the kids

  • it is 93.75. he makes a mistake when doing the multiplication. good video still!

  • @galOnefive did u actually do the math o are u wildly supporting.the answer

  • If you got 93.75, then you're absolutely wrong. Please check your answers before commenting on this video. Thanks Sal! you're a GREAT teacher. :D

  • thanks sal. i was like so stuck till i watched like half this video:)

  • wow thats a fail man you have to much to do in such little time. preform qwallity not qwontity. im trying it myself

  • 70$ tie! my goodness!

  • How about getting a original price of an item. For example: If a shirt has a 15% mark down and the marked down price is $18. What would the original price be?

  • @40Lovetomatch HEY,if yoou find help on finding original price,let me know PLEASE!ive been stuck for 2days already!!!!!!!

  • @40Lovetomatch :

    x is the original price:

    1*x-0.15*x=18,

    0.85x=18,

    x=18/0.85

    so the original Price (x) would be 21,18 $

  • My dad would want you to talk to my mom. She used to write checks and forget to record that she wrote them, and she'd spend money before she calculated what she can safely spend.

    They always argued about, which they called having discussions about, money. I used to hate the end of the month for that reason.

  • this didnt help me. can someone help me please? if i get a 2% cash back on $19.40. how much am i getting back?

  • @uphill248

    $ 19.4*0.02 ⁼ $ 0.39

  • My friend, Robb, did a percentage of 15%-to determine the tip I owed the waitress-faster than I could even form the first numbers in my head.

    And he knew it in exact terms, as in $1.21 and not just in round terms.

  • Yeah math fail lol at 7:32

    5(1) +1 = 7????????

  • THIS GUY IS SO AWESOME BECAUSE HE SHOWS ALL HIS WORK

    he is doing all his devision by long devision .

    This is probabl where Teachers LOOSE students in the class room

    becuase some get lazy and they skip a step which totally undermines

    the learning ablility of the kids

  • igot 93.75 as well.

  • sorry but when you multiply 125&.75 the answer is 93.75. sorry but im horrible at math big time so wen i get a chance to correct someone in math i take it.let me know if ive offended you or any one eltse other than that i LOVE your videos and they help me raise my grade from a c to wel im not quite sure yet but... well thx

  • This is so simple, but I'm having the hardest time recognizing when to use what formula...can anyone help me with that?

  • Thank you. You are of great help. You explained all of your topics clearly.. ;)

  • Comment removed

  • that should be 93.75 dollars

  • It does not matter because if you spend your 50$ you still can use your credit card ! =D

  • Mr. Kahn, Thank you so much for your work and these videos!!!

  • Khan sweetie, do you do earth science too?

  • I need help :/... I don't get why 125 - 25% = 75

    It's frustrating.

  • @ MrRCOLA

    9 is what % of 36 means 36 times something (X) equals 9;

    So. 36x=9 divide both sides by 36-> 36x/36=9/36 -> x=.23= 23%

  • hey i guys i need help on this problem.

    9 is what % of 36.

    i used to know how to do this but i forgot please send me a message and help me.

  • at 7:33 he takes 5 x1 +1 = 7 and its 6, so 93.75

  • I got 93.75

  • That is the right answer

  • @FormPolice me too

  • @FormPolice but you used a calculator lol so you didn't get it the calculator did!!

  • @wondergirlsy your a dumb,cunt faced whore

  • @FormPolice Fuck you asshole!!!! you mama!!

  • @wondergirlsy I saw your picture...you are fat and ugly. your daddy must have really hated you.

  • @FormPolice HONEY I THINK you misunderstood the point I think you are bullshit

  • @wondergirlsy your mother hates you. she wishes you were never born.

  • @FormPolice Your father hates you, so does your mother they wish you were never ever born, but pretends that they loves you, how sad and pathetic. You were planned to sent in a foster care, but they had no money. Your mother picks up garbages every day and earns 4dollars a month, she also had to sell her body to another man so she is a whore. You are a son of a whore and poor to your father

  • @wondergirlsy Judging by your grammar, I would say you are about 12 years old. So not only do your parents hate you, you are half retarded as well. just go kill yourself...but you are so stupid, you probably couldn't even do that.

  • @FormPolice You know what? you obviously have no life over here? and don't you fucking judge me. You don't fucking know who i am I don't know who the fuck u are and If I am 12 years old, I wouldn't even looking at this shit right here? and really 12 or 14 would be doing percent problems here and you looking about ugly 15 years old should face the truth right here you are probably failure

  • @FormPolice Also you know what? Parents hating you? we don't want to know about your damn business okay? But thanks for the information. I am retarded but You know what....?I bet you get 60's on the math test and straight Fs may be even pass the year so you can't graduate. You know what? you call me stupid ? I think you don't know what ur talkin about here. You know what? shut the fuck up please

  • @wondergirlsy I bet you don't have any friends, and if you do, I bet they are losers and nerds. you are a retarded mess.

  • @FormPolice You are annoying little mother ass fucker. I bet you don't; have any friends and do you even know me in real life ? no you don't fucking loser only if you are here I will kick yo ass up. Shut your damn little donkey beak off. You are not even retarded. You are born retarded!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FormPolice me to

  • As you'll probably see from other comments, there IS a mistake in this video in the second problem. See if you can spot it. It just goes to show that everyone can make 'stupid mistakes', and you need to be very careful with all aspects of a math problem. Even a minor miscalculation is wrong. I honestly kind of like seeing him make these mistakes as I follow along, gives me a reason to pay attention as I follow along and solve them with him.

  • Well then You're A Loser If You're Gona Spend All Day Observing His Videos For Mistakes

  • i believe the second problem is wrong bro

  • yeah.. the multiplication was incorrect.. when he times 125 by .75 he came up with 94.75 when it's actually 93.75

  • Comment removed

  • bable on

  • too much babling

  • You might find it easier to use 3/4 for .75.

  • This problem u are working is wrong..the right anwser is $93.75

  • Thank you Sal! Very helpful videos!

  • how embarrassing...

    i'm in my early 20s and have no idea how to do this type of (basic) algebra. i don't recall ever learning much of it in school.

    i guess it's never too late to learn.

  • ha.. u r not the only one.. i thought l was good@ math so l decided to be a teacher.. l'm taking clases right now.. n l have no idea how to solve this kind of problems.. but l'M just gona do my best to learn this

  • @regi989 early 20s=young.

  • 7:55

    0.75 X 125 = 93.75

  • 1*5+1 is not 7 it is 6

    making it not 7+7 but 7+6

    but seriously it does not matter

    Sal is a great teacher for his teaching

    skills, logic, and trust

  • I'm pretty sure The answer to the $100 question is 93.75

    125/100 = 1.25

    1.25 times 75 = 93.75

  • i was gonnna say that,,

    hes a god teacher but talking a lot makes me get confused!!! o.O

  • but you should never spend more then 5% of your bankroll in one spot unless you will gain 10% of your total bankroll back.

  • @ 1:48 When you say X is the same as 1X is the 1 representing a 100% (therefore 100% - 25% = 75%) ?. In other words is X 100% ...Thanks

  • i think its supposed to be 93.75

  • I concur.

  • the added bonus is once you figured it out, you dont want some new shoes anymore, and you go spend your money properly

  • I knew a guy who did all his percentage problems in fraction formation, and he always got them right.

    I never could do percentages until I saw them in decimal formation. Even now, I can't do them in my head. The part that was hurt in the accident starts to throb w/ lancing pain if try that for too long. Then I'm in danger of possibly having a seizure. Some days are better than others and this isn't one of the best days I've had.

  • yeah I do them with fractions too, and with decimals, depends on ma mood

  • It's quite reassuring to know that even a mind the caliber of Sal's(who has degrees from Harvard and MIT)makes mistakes in arithmetic from time to time.

  • ya you multiplied wrong at the end so i didnt chech but im guessing that jivans answer is right, but we all get the idea

  • Is the last answer supposed to be 93.75 instead of 94.75? Either way, thanks a lot for the videos. They're a great help!
