  • If you know of any cover artists who had the guts to perform this song with the ORIGINAL lyrics and none of the wimpy "relevant to people who weren't alive in the 1930's" lyrics, please direct me to their versions so I know who else to listen to. :D

  • Torchwood extras where John Barrowman singing this sent me here!

  • Love it,Such a Timeless beautiful song.Fallout 3 brought me here.

  • @khallus 1930's brought me hear

  • I hate how you can't really hear the horns in the back at the beginning.

  • This is the time they could write songs and actually play instruments. Now they "talk" songs because they can't sing and have a computer generated beat because it's beyond their musical talent to play a drum. We miss you Cole Porter

  • @Karlpetry You shouldn't close your mind to any genre of music. It all depends on the person. But I do admit Cole Porter probably is the best composer of his time.

  • @Karlpetry not to mention Nat King Cole, if he's dead, and all other great artists, hell fallout made me realize how much i LOVE oldies! basically if it's on the fallout 1, 2, 3, or NV, i love it :) thoguh theres probably i lot of good ones im missing out on

  • @Karlpetry just because music is made on a computer does not mean it takes no talent. I'm a music major and I play flute, bass, trombone, and piano and I work hard in learning all my theory but I'm also very into recording arts and electronic music and it's takes a lot of persistance and knowledge to put it together. I do look down upon the abuse of auto-tune, but keep in mind when looking back in history, every music has been looked down upon as trash before it was acknowlegded as music.

  • @MusicalRina Well said. I have not seen it put so well.

  • @MusicalRina Every style of music has been actual music until today. Effort, creativity, and soul were put into songs in the old days. Now that that's not the case, and anyone can make it big by speaking into a computer and pushing buttons, music as a whole has been severely wounded. Fingers crossed that people come to their senses and let this era of ignorence die, much like Disco eventually did. Long live Rock n' Roll, Blues, Jazz, and Big Band. Death to Rap, Hip Hop, Techno, and Dubstep

  • Isn't that last part EXACTLY what they said about every one of the types of music you mentioned as being good?

  • @MusicalRina "All this machinery making modern music can still be open hearted" - Geddy Lee

  • @Karlpetry I agree that this song is awesome but thats... kinda closed minded of you, dont you think? Programming great electronic music with little technical know how isn't exactly easy.

  • @Karlpetry while I hate to be involved in disscussions about a genre of music that has nothing to do with the video I've just seen, I can't help but to agree and disagree. A master of auto tune etc with a real passion for it can pull it off, however there is (to me) nothing better then the real instruments. Sometimes it really annoys me though you here some who are auto tuned sounding rubbish then when they're singing without the equipment they sound very good.

  • @Karlpetry Very well said sir.

  • Amazing

  • I really like this song. Its one of the few songs that makes me sadhappy

  • Great song.

  • I liked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Maybe its because I'm from a much younger generation, but I didn't understand half of that.

  • @Obsidian182 Have you been living under a cultural rock ?!?!?

  • @robertlong2233 Uhh no Robert, i believe he said he was from a younger generation. Besides, he might be english, and not have had the pleasure of hearing of most of those people. That said, i do love this song.

  • @robertlong2233 To be fair, there is a whole lot of namedropping going on. Cant expect people to know who Ned McLanes wife was :P

  • @Obsidian182 Please tell me you at least get the bit about "Russian Reds"?

  • @theevilgood wiki even tells you that :(

  • @Obsidian182 Good god, venture forth and expand your mind and experiences. You'll be very glad you did.

  • @Obsidian182 It's a statement on how the times were changing in that particular period. It's basically saying that there no point in going for shock value because there were people were doing nearly everything that was considered shocking.

Which makes me wonder what Cole Porter would have to say about how things are now...

  • @Obsidian182

It's interesting reading, looking up all the names and the context under which he's singing about them.

  • @Obsidian182 - If you were paying attention to the news and to pop culture in the 1930s, you'd probably get it. As someone born in the 1960s, much of it went sailing over my head. Fortunately I have an uncle who was born in 1929 who could shed light on what I missed. Not that he grasped it all when the song first came out, but that was closer to his time, so it came to him easily.

  • @Obsidian182 these words ara just a parody of the real words

  • why aren't theses on the original lyrics?

  • Speak the truth and nothin' but the truth Three Dog!!! Auuwwwwww!!!!!

  • im off to play fallout 3 again

  • If Porter thought the standards of HIS era were lowered, imagine what would he think about 2011?
