The interesting and very clever part of this composition is the dynamic(s). My interpretation of this piece was the 'limpness' and 'motionless', 'background'/backdrop that the body itself was creating. It would be very difficult.
Some people should try 'taking' some real contemporary dance classes. People that understand contemporary dance know that it is limitless and has no boundaries. It is not confined to a vocabulary of movement.
@sammanthe77 Pointed feet for pointed feet lovers, her feet are not pointed for a reason. Falling and rolling is there also for a reason. Try not to be so limited.
@mhss0001 learn to appreciate dance for whatever it is. just because u prefer this doesn't make lyrical dance nonsense, it's all some form of art and some people prefer to work with music, bashing one doesn't make you seem any smarter or realer
@saldanat I had no intention of appearing a certain way with my comment, i was just frustrated about the imbalance of the two different styles with the same name.
Nice moves! The choreography is very direct. Join the Just Dance Talent Search to enter for a chance to get your moves in the next Just Dance video game and win a trip to Paris.
Oh and @ CHALADFUL, If you knew any better, modern dance was to go against the Ballet world of being so rigid and pointing toes. There really was no need in defining flexed or pointed toes in this piece. . . . Dont hat, give props where props are due! REAL TALK!
So. . . the title says contemporary dance. I think that this is pure Modern Dance. I think of contemporary dance as a mix of most dance forms (modern, ballet, hip hop, jazz). But, whatever whomever calls it, this was well performed and choreographed. BIG UPS to the dancer and the choreographer...
This is Contemporary Modern Ballet. Not to be confused with LYRICAL. Which is found at competitions. The LYRICS are the guide, not the movement. The art form of dance can stand alone without music or lyrics. Movement is the most honest, pure, and telling of our communicators. Never meant to be confined. We do it every waking hour of our lives...Body Language. Start with a feeling, let it fester, grow, consume, and explode threw every fiber. Let your audience, if any, decide what they feel.
I'm a contemporary dancer... and I personally dont think it is "amazing" but I think it is well performed. I think you could add more flowy movement to make it better...in my eyes of course.
this is amazing!.. where did u get your inspiration for that? im not sure what your story is but i have an idea :) i really want to learn that choreography... x
i think people need to realise that contemporary is a very different, expressive genre of dance. this solo is beautiful and could be a clean perfect dance with just a bit more practise :)
To the people who are saying 'what is this?' and saying how rubbish it is, open your eyes! if you can't see how stunning this is, then your obviously not a contemporary dancer. which is fine, but don't go complaining about this. In my eyes this is perfection. Beautiful work, NOTHING needed to be changed. Eyeline for this dance-perfect, feet for this dance-perfect.
Thank you, well spoken. They turn a blind eye because there is no one guiding them what to feel. No lyrics telling them. So they haven't been able to look at the movement and see a story. Which is okay. it will come with maturity, hopefully. It is a very personal thing, after all. It is pure, naked, and real. As honest as you can be. And you should give it from the bottom of your soul, not from the bottom of a singers or musicians soul.
Thing is with contemporary dance is that there is no right and no wrong. If its what you feel, if its what yourself is exploring, if its how you talk, it is perfection. People need to realise this. This is true dance, honest and raw dance. You said it exactly right. thankyou.
@danceandmeanit I think the people who comment effencive things haven't ever had experience or not very much experience in dancing so wouldn't know the types of things and wacky material is used :')
this routine is great but if you could do a video showing it step by step will be even better i found a song that it goes great with it's Sara Bareilles -Gravity

contemporary dancing is about more than just flinging your body and rolling on the ground.
its about telling a story with your body.
