@iokosiokos because they are dumb asses with no sense of politeness and the very thing they may be disturbing the entire audience and performer by almost coughing their lungs out just doesn't pass through their brains. What's even more disturbing is that nobody coughed between one performance and another! I met many of these jerks and everytime they make me want to smack their faces and break their teeth on the opposite chair or throw them off the balcony.
...with a horrendous slop-up job one would get with these by Lang Lang, it is hard not to appreciate the clean-not-bizarre rendition by Yundi...but what I think is that Asian pianists don't get the emphasis on the tone-texture thing that the Europeans get, and so here are the consequences: this tends to be to dry and underarticulated, the "personality" one wishes Yundi was developing in his Chopin is not showing up much, he is so "technical"...
@oldgringo ...I actually make a living teaching others to play the piano, and met Yundi in Warsaw in 2000, because I was helping organize the competition of which he was the winner, so I professionally help others appreciate music...
@strestrain ...rather than worry about how I would play the nocturnes, you want to get interested in what Yundi does wrong when HE plays them, and also interested in who, already on the Tube plays them BETTER, and what exactly they do to get them to come off better...pay attention to the music MORE, and whether it is me, or Yundi, or whomever, LESS...it is all about Chopin's music above all, and it is not easy business, and it takes work on yourself to get a handle on it...
@fredericfranc that's the thing, u seem to pay attention to the people (especially their facial expressions) rather than listening to the music, which is ironic...everyone has flaws, im not a big shot musician like u but i learn to appreciate music no matter who plays them, whether it's asian or european. it's also ironic that you point out how specific ethnicity cant do certain things...which is again, ironic, because u just stated that u shouldn't pay attention to the WHOM
@strestrain ...years ago Fou Tsong won the special "Polish Radio" prize for the mazurkas interpretation, so the ethnicity of the pianist, per se has nothing to do with his talent...I am only speculating about the kind of teaching that goes on in various parts of the world...for example often it is said that the teaching of science in Asia is superior these days, this has nothing to do with the races of the students, but the nature and quality of the teaching there...
@kuranosuke1968 WOW you don't know piano music at all!! I play piano and when a pianist performs it looks like they made a mistake but it's just how much emotion they put into their music...so yeah if you post things like this...thats really immature
Mis nocturnos favoritos se oyen perfectamente en las manos del gran genio Yundi Li. Qué grandes regalos del Maestro Chopin, me siento tan bien oyéndole...ahh!! Qué hermoso!
I don't know why, but I feel that his interpretation on Op.9 No.2 was better when he was younger! I feel like his "insecurity" enhanced his performance.
It doesn't mean it is less gorgeous then before....his interpretation are amazing!
@FenrirLupus I meant to say 'concert.' But people like you would obviously assume I don't know what I'm talking about. I agree with your idea, but then there wouldn't be a difference to a concert recording and a studio recording...
excellent technique, no missed notes at all, all perfection. BUT there is always this ''let get this over with'' kind of sense with Yundi Li. Please check Valentina Igoshina's version of nocturne 48 and you will understand right away what I mean... Also some right hand notes were terrilbly lost in the section starting from 12:55
@Elsenrail29 Well... there were missed notes! BUT no "let get this over with". I like performances on the slow side, like Igoshina's in this case. Yundi is on the fast side, especially lately in his live performances, but he is the only one I tolerate this becase EVERYTHING IS LEFT IN THERE. Having heard this Nocturne 48 a thousand times, I still appreciate all its nuances in his rush-rush play. His recorded complete set of Nocturnes is my favorite, although many he could play slower.
Very nice playing of Yundi Li ! But the sound of the piano is pretty bad. I am surprised that this is a Stneiway piano, but I guess it's a Steinway made in China..... Too bad Yundi agrees to play on it, as he always prefers to play on Steinway made in Germany (not made in USA), but the concert was held in China, so .... Anyway, thank you for the video.
@teftae Thank you for information. I already had in my favourites other versions of some nocturnes played by Yundi in Warsaw during the birthday of Chopin's birth and posted, for instance, by ' Kiesworld86 ' or ' Fritz51218 '. But since Yundi Li is one of my favourite pianists, I look at all recent videos concerning him. He is a very good pianist and I like his Chopin's performances. I am going to search other versions of this concert in China. Thank you very much.
If they mic'd the place properly, you wouldn't be distracted by the coughs, lol.

I have cravings for murder when people cough (sometimes they do it on purpose) during the performance.

look at these people ... why the f**k do their cough in the middle of the perfomance ?! these people don't deserve good music

@ernesto7608,he is young. Let's wait for his another recording when he is aged. Likely will be a little slower like rubinsteins.

*sigh* you need a steinway made in GERMANY, not one made in China
for goodness sake...what a waste; this performance could be much better.

@mazurka27 It's not about the piano. It's the video sound quality that is bad. Search for the other ones on YouTube for the same concert.
