Well, I've just finished reading the Dumas novel. It's a great yarn, but is heavy going. The main thing is that the film storyline is so different from the book, that it may as well be from another author. Why on earth can't film makers stick to the original plot? I used to love this film (still do) but now that I've read the book................

im reading the book now and of couse as i can see by the description of the movie that once again hollywood has changed the pl0t. what a joke. it was louis who was adbucted and then phillipe placed in his place by the Black Pope, ie the Jesuit General, the ruler of the world.

Richard Chamberlain is one of my absolute favorite actors and this movie remains one of my favorite movies.

I prefer this version over the one with Leonardo DiCaprio. I also loved Casanova and Shogun. Chamberlin was a wonderful actor.
