  • @BucketOfFudge

    So did I with HS-14.(North Island). Berrouet69@gmail.com

  • Let's Support our former home gentlemen. Ranger Danger! in Oregon sounds good to me can"t wait. Berrouet H.S-14 Berrouet69@gmail.com

  • GONZO station 1987. Some wanted to change the Ranger theme song to "Danger Zone" after the movie was made on it. They dressed it up to be the USS Enterprise. The Ranger was the Top Gun of the Pacific at the time. Before that it was dressed up to be the Enterprise for the Star Trek movie. The Enterprise could never fight like the Ranger.

  • Spent time on the Ranger in the 60's. Would love to see the Ranger in Oregon.

  • i served on ranger in 1969- 1972, i proudly served, and misss her to this day.alot of fine memories there

  • @lylecom Thanks for looking at the video, this was shot between 1968 and 1970 aboard The USS RANGER. Ranger is inactive since 1993 but there are those of us that are working to save Ranger as a museun ship in Fairview OR. Currently Ranger is moored in inactive ships Bremerton WA.

  • I was on the Ranger back during the '82 cruise (airwing), did all the workups, etc. I remember refueling an Aussie tincan off the coast of Washington one foggy night and they serenaded us with a live band during the entire replenishment evolution. As a courtesy, when we parted company, we in turn played a record of the William Tell Overture (the ship's theme song) over the loud speakers. Kinda sums up the US military in a nut shell....if you can't be real, use technology...

  • I deployed to Yankee Station, North Vietnam 1970-71 on CVA-61 with VA-113. Brown shirt on A-7Es. RIP Billy Stewart, AQF-2

  • West Pac 77-79 and 80-81 VAQ-137

I miss my buddies but had enough of the racket and noise, played banjo on cat walk over by cat 4

  • I was on the Ranger 1985-87. I was with VF-2 and an AMS-1 then. I also was TAD to CAG staff and TAD as a Brig Chaser on it for 2 months then.

  • good times

  • I was on Ranger 76~80 V-2 division bow cats. Its interesting how the whole time serving I couldn't wait to get out and years and years later I have some of the best memories from that time. I'm in Seattle now and I see the Ranger in Bremerton looking ragged. I hope to see her in Portland.

  • Jim "JJ" Gardner V-2 Arresting Gear 1974-1977.

Not sure about her being sent up a river, I mean she is a blue water ship . . . but I guess that beats the alternative of always wondering if I am shaving with her!

  • Feb 86 entered the Navy & was honorablly discharged '88. I wish I was mature enought to truely appreciate that experience then. I look back & regret I didn't stay longer but I had family isssues that made it dif. to stay in. That was one interesting time in my life. My home town population was only 1,300 and the ship was about 5000 so it was a big change for me. I'll never forget Pusan Korea & flying off and back on the Ranger on a medical near Japan. Thanks for the memories Ranger!

  • My father, Lt. Leslie F. Allen, was fuels officer on the Ranger during its 1968 Vietnam cruise.

  • I served on Ranger 1967-1970 in S-7. Great ship, we went to Nam 3 times while I was on her.

  • my dad was on the ranger in nam, dont know what years though

wish she was still active, ide love to be stationed on the same ship my dad was on

  • Wow what memories...remember watching the Ranger come into SD Port and my Dad standing outside with the rest of his crew...and he would wave when he'd see us. I miss you Papa! *RIP* :(

  • My dad was on the Ranger in 1990 Desert Storm War. When he came home, he kept one of his dog dags but gave one to me. I still have it

  • I hear the USS Ranger will possibly be calling Portland Oregon home in the near future? It will be parked near the Fremont Bridge and tours will be given. Can anyone provide me with more information on this?

  • I served on the Mighty Danger Ranger CV By God 61 from Oct. 1990 - till they decomisioned her in 1993 then finishe dmy last year on the Constellation. I did 2 West Pac's on her and served in Desert Storm with her. I made some great frienships while I was serving on her and I got to admit I still get teary eyed when I see the movie Top Gun and Tom Cats from VF-1 catapulting off her.

  • DANGER RANGER CV 61. i remember her in sandeigo. she and the kitty hawk could be seen from the recruit barrack in mcrd. i think they want ranger to be towed to portland oregon. i hope they dont use her as a test target like they did my ship the guadalcanal lph 7. that was a goddamn shame for what they did to her. assholes!

  • I did 70-71 WESTPAC with RVAH1 I was in the Jet Shop for the whole cruise. We as many of you know, had to take care of the big white horse, "Silver" because we had more room than other spaces. Dan W.

  • I was in G-3 Weapons from 90-til decom in July of 1993

  • My dad was on the Ranger from 1961-1962 in 3rd division.

  • Spent 3 years E-Division on Ranger 89-92 decommissioned her.

  • My Dad was on Ranger in '79, I remember the story about the Tanker crash. I'm trying to find his cruise book. Any ideas?

  • I made 2 WESPAC Cruises - 1975 (The Fall of Saigon) and 1976 (The Israeli Raid on Entebbe) - An AT-3, my Squadron was VAW-112 the "Golden Hawks", flying the E-2B Hawkeye - I worked in AIMD with old Dave G. and many memorable shipmates from several squadrons aboard the ship. Thanks for posting the video, makes me want to go back and do it again. What an adventure it was, I've not experienced thrills like those sense, and will never forget the excitement aboard the USS RANGER. Best redards, Rex W.

  • My first flat top 89-90 with HC-3. I agree SanDiego or more precicley North Island as the home port. Good ship the good ol Danger Ranger

  • My ex husband served on the Ranger from 88 to 92, he passed away in 05 but he would have loved to have seen these videos he was in the CAG and loved it. Thank you and Iknow people will disagree with me Coronado was the Ranger's home port for a long time so therefor the Ranger should stay in San Diego.

  • On board 90-91 Iraq Pac. G-3 Mag Rats....

  • I was on Ranger till december 1990 in G1 Weapons.

  • I did some OJT with G-1. I remember AO-1 Anderson. I forget the other AO-1, a black guy, shaved head.

  • I was AO3 Whitehurst my last year I was an Master at Arms. Got sent there.

  • I was a striker from S-3 Div. I pna the AO3 test. AOAN Ache.

  • As others may view this video you can never know what it means to us, Rangermen..... Thanks for posting my memories as I re live them Ron Ross EM2 Engineering Div 1975 thru 1980

  • Has anything been confirmed if the Ranger coming to Portland? I totally support this (since I do live in Portland) but the matter of facts is...our carriers need to be preserved, not scapped like they did to the Enterprise in 1946.

  • I hope they save the Ranger for you guys. Where I live, is home of USS. Forrestal (CV-59) & Saratoga (CV-60). Baltimore wants The Forrestal, but Navy says no. Rhode Island wants Saratoga, but not enough funding to acquire the ship. These ships (decommissioned) can provide an excellent platform to teach future generations about Naval History. And provide economic development to the community they serve. What upsets me the most. President Bush wants to give The KittyHawk to India for free.

  • A20havoc and anyone else interested: I think Portland has "won" the Ranger, I'm onboard the Stennis in Bremerton and she sits right next to us on the inactive side. The big thing is that when the Kitty hawk gets here and her decom is done, Ranger has to be out of here so there is room on the inactive side. I'm actually going aboard Ranger this coming monday for a re-enlistment ceremony. If anyone wants pics of her just give me the space tac # (hopefully the placards are still up.)

  • 79weasel, Could you snap a few pictures of The Constellation for me?

  • I was aboard Ranger when commissioned and served 1957-58 in Gunnery Division.

  • grandfather was on original ranger. anyone help with info?

  • I was onboard 86-87 with VA-145 out of Whidbey. I was in the line shack (terd shirts) if anyone was on then. Mitch Fields

  • My brother was in 145 that time frame in the PR shop. Also in VAQ-131.

  • My dad served on The USS Ranger in 1962 third divison
