  • I was never an acidhead, but I identified with many of them. In junior high and early high school, The Doors, Steppenwolf, Blue Cheer, and the Jefferson Airplane were among my favorite bands, and George Carlin's head period, Cheech & Chong, and early Firesign Theater my favorite humor. I'm talking about when I was twelve to fifteen.

  • I m french and I live in paris. One day I went to the cemetary Pere Lachaise where Jim's tomb is.

If you can do this in your life I recommande you cause it's full of sensation when I saw his tomb I was so painfull and I hope Jim is with us somewhere to fight the systeme or writing poem but sure is not petittion the lord with prayer.....

  • @MsAstekas Merci beaucoup pour ton commentaire! Et je suis sure que Jim ne vas pas petitioner (?) Dieu JAMAIS! Excusez-moi, je ne parle pas bien francais!!!

  • @celebrant9 lol my bad english and your french.it's funny cause we can get a link with Jim and that's it the power of the doors....thank you

ps:i can't translate exactly in french "petition" but you can tell call the lord(appeller le seigneur) to explain that you want to communicate with .

    :)

  • @MsAstekas And to think that I've studied french for 3 years...That was some not so well-spent money!!! :P

  • thx you very much for trancribe the poem at the beginin.Cause i m not very goog in english...

  • The Monk Bought Lunch!!!!!! :) Doors fan forever....and ever....and ever.....

  • @droobiedee Take that shit elsewhere. Thank you!

  • yeah baby u rock

  • Im a big jim morrison freak&&i love him&&the doors I love this song good choice.!:)

  • where did this come from??

  • the doors was the greatest band in the whole world. Jim morrison was a powerful singer and poet, ray was a great keyboardist, robbie created very nice and hipnotic solos and john was an awesome drummer

  • Never heard the poem at the begining. Thanks for that. P.S. I am not Chuirch going person but I firmly believe that you can petition the Lord with prayer, you just might get something you were not expecting.

  • @nataliebowman79 You're welcome, my friend.

  • @nataliebowman79 I'm not a church going person either. However, I believe Jim here...that is...unless he's just trying to exhibit his wierd humor, that you can't petition the lord with prayer. I feel if the Lord is more concerned with expanding the universe, than he is in my trivial life...and that gives me more comfort that a God that exhists to live for my daily problems. Just my take though and I respect yours.

  • Never heard the poem at the begining. Thanks for sharing that.

  • Love how Ray comes in at 4:02. Keyboard played by a true god of music like never before.

  • This is the best part of the trip, the best part! The part I really like..

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "YOU CANNOT petition the Lord with prayer!

  • La amo!

  • I am troubled immeasurably by your eyes,

I am struck by the feather of your soft reply,

The sound of glass speaks quick disdain,

And conceals what your eyes fight to explain.

  • Goodbye young lion ... Goodbye old snake ... You have shown the way. When it's time to get on the blue bus ... Well, dear love ... You'll know... without a doubt. Meanwhile ... Ride the snake....This is the best part of the trip!

  • YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!

  • this is the best part of the trip.

  • oh. yes.

  • Name of the recording is "Soft Parade" was the most expensive recording the "Doors" ever made. They took there name from Aldo Huxley "The Doors of Perception." Soft parade ...that name ... probably an inside joke/observation of the over all sound. this music is some of the best rock and roll ever made.

  • I nver heard this version very surprising is there a different version like in tha movie i like that `1 better?

  • James Douglas Morrison is truely One Of The Great Wonders Of The Universe and for all I know,Jim entered another dimension, because he had this great smile on his face in the bathtub. So when Pam's story about this is true, then Jim is out there in space with the Aliens for sure!!!

  • RIP JIM 40 YEARS AGO TODAY

  • THE MONK BOUGHT LUNCH

  • wtf is this real jim morrison???

    00:00 00:36

i dint know this part of the song I LOVE IT i never hear it!!!!!

    Cool!!! thanks

  • @SEETER1

    Of course it's Jim! You're welcome :)

  • @SEETER1 yes it's jim's voice,it is not the studio version it is an anniversary version with this bonus at first.I prefer this version !!!

  • @SEETER1 this version can be found on the 40th anniv edition of the album

  • the doors are beyond any other band, they covered punk with take it as it comes, invented the theatre rock genre with many elaborate tunes like this one.the doors also thrashed and blast beated with the epic climax of the end.furthermore they brought blues and fukin funk with tracks like the changling, flamenco spanish caravan, jazzy tunes like queen of the hwy, lulliby shit like love street.what didnt they invent or enhance, whos got more styles than these guys.....reak easy...no fukin body.r.i.p jim

  • @bluefukingreene So many different styles blending together usually doesn't work yet the boys from Venice made it happen

  • @dualityofman999 yes they did make it work my friend, yes they are awesome, and yes the river knows.peace.

  • When this video gets a dislike, it means the end is nigh.

  • 8:20 Ray was play on a guitar !!! ;D

  • 0 dislikes for a reason

  • whats is the name of the first song

  • @maCcartneyharrison

It's an untitled poem Jim wrote.

  • @celebrant9 Is there a complete song or is it just that little bit? I want more of that, I want MORE!! it sounded brilliant.

  • @cheezbeenzriz

As far as I know, it's just that little bit. I agree, it's brilliant. Jim was truly a man of words.

  • @celebrant9 can you please write the lyrics of the poem? in the description? I cant figure em out completely :( thanks in advance dude

  • @darknessbearer7 Your wish my command ;)

  • @celebrant9 thanks dude :) nice work keep it up ;P

  • Mr Mojo Risin is still king

  • i agree celebrant9, it is * The Doors*little bit bourboned when i wrote that .....cool for replying

  • im goin to see ray live next month

  • @jcmcdguitar

Lucky you, he's one amazing musician.

  • got my cobra on my left ... leopard on my right. whoo

  • @gdsac Charlie.Sheen wishes.he could.be.as.creative as.Jim. Now that line was winning.

  • Je suis francaise et en juillet prochain je vais aller saluer Jim au cimetiere du Pere Lachaise a Paris !!!!!!!!

  • A perfect song.

    I can't say anything more.

  • "Tropic corridor, tropic treasure, what God brought us to this mild equator?"

This mention to the Vietnam war resonates in my mind any time I think of any unjustified imperial conquest that America has taken part in... What God brought us here?

  • @420drummerguy

Although I do agree with you about the Vietnam war the lyric is "What got us this far to this mild equator". Of course it still remains open to many interpretations.

  • i only mention this because i'm a obsessive doors fan but...check out at 4:40...the base that John's drums are on looks exactly the same as the one they used in the PBS special....i know, stupid noticing that...but hey...it's all part of history.

  • The poem at the beginning should be made the global anthem for poetry.

  • Jim and the Doors best fucking band in the kindom dude, try mgmt fated to pretend.......remind u of ne thing?

  • @pervis1975

It's not "Jim and the Doors" it's simply The Doors.

  • dear monarch 1450: 'the Soft Parade' is your BRAIN.... I believe the phrase come from William Burroughs

  • If you weren't "of age" when The Doors were, I highly recommend the Documentary "WHEN YOUR'RE STRANGE". Mostly live footage with little embellishment. really tells it like it was.

  • this is better than the beatles. as much as brit tried to get here,it never happened.

  • huh, at 6:08 who is the lucky bassist to be sitting in with the doors?

  • @GrizzlTooth

He's Douglas Lubahn, he has played bass for the band in "Strange days", "Waiting for the sun" and "The soft parade".

  • @celebrant9 harvey brooks played bass on the soft parade sessions .

  • @mitjazz

Brooks ALSO played on the "Soft parade" sessions but the man in the picture is beyond any doubt Douglas Lubahn :)

  • First time I did shrooms I listened to this on my iPod... I put my face in the couch and was in the soft parade with The Doors... then there were crocodile heads going around in a circle sticking their tounges in and out, spraying psychedelic foam...

ps. I was wearing a jim morrison shirt

    Long live the [Lizard] King!

  • We love you forever Jim and we know you loved Paris and we love Paris forever too!

  • I AM THE LIZARD KING I CAN STILL DO ANYTHING saddly even though I am in heaven and sittin besaide the greatest of all Lizard KIngs...The man was a god and such a poet RIP Jim you left the world to early bro

  • This is the best part of the trip,...this is the trip...the best part, I really like

    <3

  • I think days have always been strange. It is just the preception of the person and their own consciousness. If in jail, a junkie, tripping, in wall street, or in war what and when life becomes if nothing than stranger than fiction?

This is the best part of the trip", The part i really like!!!!!:-)

  • You rarely see a 168 - 0 'like/dislike' score on anything. Amazing song.. I hope this song will never get a single dislike..

  • alot of art in one place. mr. morrison, i love you

  • id eat jims turd

and rays and johns and robbies

  • @Jessfuckoff

  • @celebrant9 :D

  • @Jessfuckoff

    I'd eat it twice!!

  • @BoudROCKS id have it for breakfast lunch dinner tea and super ... and as a snack inbetween!

    hahaha

  • @Jessfuckoff

    when all else fails

we can whip the horses eyes

    and make them sleep

    and cry

  • i believe its the NEW - COMMON way of life for the (still) free countries around the globe...but Jim those days was signing for us THESE days...these STRANGE DAYS...which found us?

  • @MONARCH1450

Um... I think we're saying the same thing!

Strange days have indeed found us.

  • whats the soft parade anyway?

  • @MONARCH1450

I believe it's a metaphor for life in the western world.

  • @MONARCH1450 Thats what he called the flooded streets in LA...the Soft Parade of people.

  • @MONARCH1450 It's a metaphor for the counter culture protests of the 60's being disrupted by the "animals," but I do feel the lyrics can be applied to all forms of free expression being condemned by the political "cobras" on the left and "leapords" on the right.

  • @420drummerguy The left can't govern and the right are evil.

  • @SwingStu Amen to that. In the words of Lewis Black, "The rebuplicans are a party of bad ideas and the democrats are a part of no ideas." The left is a decieving cobra and the right is an asshole leapord.

  • didn't it used to be..."what he say?" after "this is the best part of the trip....".....now it's like a pause followed by a "HUH??" lol...just wondern if anyone else noticed that.

  • @darkstar2117

Yeah, this is a slightly different version. I kinda love the "What he say?" lol.

  • @celebrant9

yeah i love that.."what he say?" too!! :)

  • "all our lives we sweat and save building for a shallow grave"...love it.

  • I believe the Monk bought lunch.

    Yes, he did.

    He bought a little.

  • great pictures

  • I saw Mojo Jojo....

  • The man is at the door...

  • go jimmy....

  • No one here, gets out alive. Long Live the Legacy of the Doors.

  • Carry babies to the river

  • LONG LIVE THE LIZARD KING!

  • the poem is ine if jims just to be clear so everyone know but as for the name i dont know it lol

  • oh how I love this song the lizard king is beyond any music now and days the man needs to be considered a god of rock the man holds greatness above all music RIP JIM may you live for ever in rock history long live the lizard king

  • when all else fails we can whip the horses eyes and make them sleep and cry........

  • I remember once I heard this on lsd, It blowed my mind the whole fkin day

  • @ClashingBeats

Never heard "The soft parade" on anything- still it absolutely blows my mind in so many ways.

  • @celebrant9 I heard it on everything and it gave me my mind back!

  • @ClashingBeats go jimmy...

  • @ClashingBeats I'm only 13 and sometime in my life before I die I really want to do some LSD. The drug itself doesn't harm you, so why isn't it legal?

  • @Childist2 ...not quite sure it doesn't harm u...unless u are eating shrooms..."LSD" these days is laced w all types of garbage...i did it when i was young...A LOT...glad i'm over that "phase"...LOL...good luck and be careful!!

  • @Childist2 No idea u.u

  • Can you give me sanctuary, i must find a place to hide..... damn i miss you jim

  • "Carrying babies to the river!" Jim cracks me up, man! Check out how he says, "You cannot petition the Lord with prayer" on Absolutely Live. It's great. More Southern preacher like.

  • the beast of the doors

  • I love the french, i wish more americans knew who the doors were.

  • "This is the best part of the trip, this is the trip, the best part, and I really like."

PROUD TO BE A PART OF THIS NUMBER !

I'm french, from Paris, and each year, on July 3rd, I go to the pere lachaise, I listen to this song, and when he sing "all our lives we sweat and save, building for a shallow grave" I know that there is something else, somehow to defend this place, because the soul of Jim ain't dead, and it still runs in our veins, and sleeps in our heart.

  • @newslang91

  • @newslang91 grave.....

  • CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT´S THE NAME OF THE POEM IN THE BEGINNING

  • @WARLAINE

As I have already posted, you can find this untitled poem in "Wilderness: The Lost Writings Of Jim Morrison,Volume 1".

  • @celebrant9 yup best stuff writen by the lizard king

  • @WARLAINE I believe it is "Horse Latitudes"

  • @WARLAINE The American Nigth

  • Yes, yes.. You were right about the Morrison Hotel title.. I was drunk.. A big party last night.. Back, back, going back in all directions.. I'll never wake up in a good mood again.. I am sick of these stinky boots..

  • @bwil0401

    Lol!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • A low point for a tremendously talented band.. Morrison seemed disinterested at this point.. Sessions were long and agitation by sober band mermbers was overtly apparent.. Writing credits were handed out to different band members for the first time.. All said, a unique sound like no other.. The DOORS rebounded from their nadir with 2 of the best rock n' roll blues albums of all-time, Roadhouse Blues" and "L.A. Woman" (apparently much to Densmore's chagrin)

  • @bwil0401

"Roadhouse blues" is not an album,it's a song that appears in "Morrison hotel",their fifth LP.

And although you're right about the problems that the members had during the recording of "The soft parade", this LP is far from being the group's "low point",it's just different that's all.

  • @celebrant9 Yeah, man. Their only low point was when Jim died.

  • @bwil0401 I dont agree. The Soft Parade is a very powerful song in my view. Even as the band moves into the heart of the song, Morrison proclaims it to be" the best part of the trip".. This trip is not from a hallucinogenic drug, but from the drug that The Doors believe to be the most deceiving and destructive drug of all – the reluctant acceptance that we must fit into the smooth running of contemporary life. This song is anything but a low point.. very powerful indeed.

  • @TheBluntedKid Nice one, man! The Soft Parade is excellent. Very good analysis on the meaning of the trip. Thanks for saying that, because it cemented my reluctance to join the mundane routine of "being an adult in today's world" by getting a dead end 9-to-5 and living a miserable existence. There's more to life than living by societal standards.

  • @LovePeaceNFreedom the police.... dead end job...awesome...check it out...

  • @TheBluntedKid

I'm with you in this one,BluntedKid , but I believe bwil0401 was talking about the LP "The soft parade" not the song, which you have to be absolutely ignorant to consider anything but masterpiece.

  • what does he say in the beginning???????

  • @WARLAINE

I am troubled immeasurably by your eyes

I am struck by the feather of your soft reply.

The sound of glass speaks quick disdain

and conceals what your eyes fight to explain.

  • I wonder why they removed the "What did he say?" that comes right after "This is the best part of the trip... this is the trip... the best part... I really like."

  • @LovePeaceNFreedom seems it was replaced by "hmm, what?"...

for whatever reason. Hmm, I guess everything must be this way.

  • @Jemmer1000

    Lol,I like your reasoning

  • @Dekalblu God of Rock

  • Does anybody know where I can find the poem at the beginning of the song?

  • @miammazzo

You can find this untitled poem in "Wilderness: The Lost Writings Of Jim Morrison,Volume 1 "

  • wonderfulllll...

  • Cobra on my left...leopard on my right!

  • With lions in the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

  • There are a few animals left out in the yard

  • Really wish that The Doors had developed the first 30 seconds into a song

  • this song is a little mirror into jim. one of his best. this is angry poetic rock and roll....even today bands struggle to pretend to have this much balls

  • Jawohl! ... Learning from earlier masters isn't taken as seriously by this generation of music.

  • when i was back there in seminary school... siii jim morrison por siempre.... you cannot petition the lord with prayer

  • love the addition of that poem at the beginning. Definitely one of the best songs of the Doors.

  • jim è sempre stato il migliore e sarà sempre il migliore BEGHI !!!!!!!!!!!

  • everything must be this way

  • This line,oh man...So much pain and truth in it.Ah well,classic Jim.

  • proud to be a part of this number!!!!!!!!

  • this is the best part of the trip, this is the trip, the best part, that i really like=) hey did u make one for the end 2?

  • You mean a slideshow?

Nah,you can find that song very easy on youtube,I try to post songs that are not available.;)

  • this song gives me a boner.

    ...and it's getting HARDER!
