  • I want one of these :P Amazing robot. Such natural and smooth movement.

  • i totally noted that for my birthday list :D

  • I just have to keep watching this, it's incredible. I can't wait to have a robotic pet. Not long now

  • you look like william boon from earth final conflict.

also your robot is awesome...that is all...

  • Now it's spiders, soon its humans, then it's skynet, Future, HERE WE COME! :D

  • hence the face o.O

  • Any plans to weaponize it?

  • I cang believe 6 fucking people nagativates it!! IT simple awesome fucking Great!!

Man, this is the "art state"

  • soo funny =))

  • Hey, may I ask, is this work part of a degree, or is a hobby? That's very admirable skills you've got!

  • that thing is awesome.

  • beautiful. I'm curious how u got such an amazing lifelike reaction from it, just thinking of the time programong it makes me shiver! as a genetic engineer in training, I would love to learn more about a.i, as it could help me in my work a massive deal. please not that I am only 17 and have sub-standard knowlage of robotics, but I can't tell you how much I am intrested in this. yours falsely, tommy.

  • Look in to Inverse Kinematics. The calculations for it are beyond simple in many cases, though the concept is often difficult to grasp.

  • Wonderful movement on that robot. Looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

  • I love it. It reminds me of a jumping spider. Watch one closely and you'll see that they like you too. they are very curious and will interact with you. They rarely bite.

  • i think i am in love with your little guy, so charming, lovely how you make it seem to have such great reaction! fantastic!

  • the robot is soo cute!. reminds me of my dead cat

  • Beautiful, organic movement. Fascinating to watch; seems like the robot is fascinated with you too!

  • Beautiful

  • whow a walking camera o can it walk??

  • Looks like its alive..

  • tell me how to make it..

wish you can fogive a 12 year old youtube account owner..

  • Its so cute! lol, amazing work!

  • really nice effect. That looks so organic the way it locks onto the face. good work.

  • I see a great security application....especially in retail.

  • Incredibly smooth movements, I particularly like the way it shies away when you get too close. The occasional blink and o.O eyes make it seem friendly and curious, very nice work.

  • reminds me amee from red planet

  • Amazing, but (in some way) freaky at the same time...

  • Whoa, lol, that's awesome.

  • wow, very natural movement

  • i want one! i wish they sold it.

  • *gasp!*

  • cute. want ^^

  • Hehe it's literally ON a pedestal :D

  • are you using a futaba TX?

  • never knew robots could be so cute lolz

  • that robot is so cute. if it had cheeks i would pinch them.

  • So cruel, taunting that robotic spider! lol

  • that's it... it's not long till the government gets a hold of one of these and duplicates it, then we'll have a whole bunch of creepy robot spiders sneaking into your home and silently photographing/killing you...lol that's awesome keep up the good work!!

  • that is not what the government had in mind until you put it in their mind.. thanks a lot. now its your fault when robots attack. lol

this was awesome except for 2 mins of having some guy stick his face near the camera, but whatev. would like to see the robot do more

  • Look at his other videos

  • wow thats amazing !! the spider movemnt and enviroment senses r fantastic !!

i will do my final year project a 6 legged spider robot, and i just wish i can do something like this, i know mine will be shit compraing to this LOL

  • it was made by the aliens to take over the world

  • me gustaria que te brincara en la estupida cara y te matara pinche gringo mierda!!!!!hijo de george bush!!!mierda!!!!

  • its like...i dont want to look at u any more...i want to look at the camera... dont want 2 put the point in time it does...but its near the end

  • Quite impressive :)

  • remote control perhaps

  • Kind of.

The motion control is entirely on board see his other videos, but I read elsewhere that the face tracking analysis is done on a separate PC which sends instructions to the on board computer to keep the camera pointing at the face.

  • well i wonder if it walks.

  • I sure does walk, click on his name and view some of his other vids. This robot is V4b, so look for that one. It's actually quite creepy because it walks so much like... well like a 6 legged spider.

  • I love the way he bends pivots tilts and strafe's on the spot.

it give's it an alive feel like its bending because your too close, or bending forward thinking 'where have you gone?'

    Fantastic!!!!

i live in hastings new zealand and ive always wanted to go to weta workshop!

  • Right, it acts like *alive*

    100 points for this !

    I want one !

  • Everytime it lifted it's front legs I flinched cause I thought it was just gonna stake that guy in the top of his head.....

  • ermm yeh my names matthew denton

  • Skynet will kill you

  • yes 100/100

  • nice 100/100

  • thats pro

  • wow he is so cute

  • Very Cool, I heard there might be some kind of kit form for this guy?

  • There's some pretty ugly-but-hugely-functional robots out there.

    This beats them all.

    What a masterpiece of design!

  • Thank you very much for this great video! I`ve learned a lot of things from it. Great work!

  • Wow! That's truly inspirational! I love how fluid it is! I never knew servo's could move so smoothly with each other! I wish my robots were that organic. Truly a peace of art! For the main brain, (cvpc?) did you use an sbc or just a simple mini-atx pc?

  • The main control for the servos is on board in a microcontroller. I think the camera tracking was processed by a separate PC.

  • wow, such fluid movements! it makes it seem so alive, you'd be mistaken if there was a living thing controlling it! brilliant work

  • I hate to imagine all of the programming that went in to that thing.

  • OMG! YOU'VE INVENTED THE FIRST STEP DO MAKING THOSE FREAKING ANNOYING SPIDER BOTS FROM DEUS EX: INVISIBLE WAR!!!!!

    Kickass bot...srsly..

  • Is it senseing its orientaton in space or dose it just assume its on a flat surface?

The balence motions are very smooth but the walking seems a bit careful (in the other videos)

Any plans to market i.c. hexapod? or any of the component elements (p.brain)?

But asside from all that as an Art Work its very novel - give this man a prize.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your comments. iC assumes his world is flat. However, if you take a look at my other hexapod videos, you will see the V4 hexapod deals with terain using contact sensors.

    M@

  • Amazing! very lifelike reactions~

  • Wow, are you an MC? You're amazing!

  • this is brilliant! looks like its alive! the way it tracks you and watches you, just blows my mind! excuse me whilst i watch it again!

  • Brilliant!

Very smooth, I love the details such as the leg movements.

  • Just Beautifull !!, thank´s for this development !!

  • Thanks! :)

  • это просто поразительно, вот это тема!!! хочецца купить такую штуку, на это бабла не жалко!

    Great!

  • WOW : )

  • awesome.

  • also very fluid movement.

  • Hi,

Music is "Vipco" by "AiM" from their Hinterland album.

    Matt.

  • Nice movements! very impressive...The song does fit perfectly! What's it called?

  • This is so impressive!

Can't you put the cable in its back? That way it can move around on a much larger pedestal. It could walk around all day, posting pictures of the people it met on its own website... (it would have to recognize them of course)

But even without that, the motion is so fantastic. I love how it backs up when you close in! Great eye for detail.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • I don't undestand!!! How, Please tell me How did you made to get that robotic fluid movements???

Please, I really want to design a robot with beautiful movements like this one. IM AMAZED!

  • Hi, thanks for your comments.

The most important thing to me is to make my robots look organic, so I spend more time on their movement, than I do on robot tasks such as obstacle avoidance and sensors etc..

I think this comes from being in an animatronic industry.

    Cheers, M@

  • How do you get into the animatronics industry?

  • lol, very nice. looks alive.. i mean robot. :)

  • Amazing. Congratulations. Very nice and smooth. And it looks very strong and reliable.

  • i want 1! you guys should have had the spider turn around. that would have been a feat.

  • Cheers!

Turning around isn't a problem, however, this has been designed as a permanent installation, and with that in mind batteries are out of the question. So the power needs to be via cable, hence no walking. M@

  • amazing

  • Impressive!

  • Outstanding!! The fluidity & responsiveness is the best I have observed on anything in the hexapod genre. Your hexapods are the most impressive anywhere! I'd love to have a go at a p.Brain on my 18 servo hex chassis when it's complete. What language is the p.Brain programmed in?

  • Matt, your hexapods are just beautiful. Thanks for the video!

    dan roe

  • Matt, only one word: Amazing!

  • Yow! Amazingly cool! I love the way it occasionally stamps one foot. These are by far the best looking hexapods ever. The whole series is beautiful.

It looks like there are two cameras; what's the second opening for?

  • The camera is the opening on the left, while the right opening houses an 10 x optical zoom lens just for effect. The zoom lens should randomly zoom in/out but recently stopped working. There is also a shutter within the lens which blinks when he takes a picture. :)

  • I'm properly impressed... and still very much up for testing p.Brain on mine. I might be able to do something useful maths-wise now too, not that it needs any improvement!

  • Hi Matt, fantastic to see this in action. Really like the way it moves back when you bring your face close - so alive - sometimes I get the feeling it's a bit nervous. I guess it's figuring out how far away you are by the size of your face relative to the field of view? When someone with a giant head comes into the room does it start cowering? ;) Anyway, I guess that would be an understandable response! :)

  • i feel that is beyond art, so nice

  • nothing comes close to this level of realism in robot world!

  • awesome. awesome. awesome.

  • Hi,

Yes the body and leg movement uses my balance gesture p.Brain algorithm as per V4b hexapod.

    cheers :)

  • Wow!! Very cool!

Are you using balance gesture for moving the body?

    Awesome!
