I prefer Laura's version but this is good, too. The 'foreign' quality of his English is obvious in his singing, at least to native speakers of English and I think that is why this version was not played in the U.S. I am glad the producers did not change the lyrics for Laura's version because I think the fact that they were written in English by Italians give the lyrics a special quality that works great for the song. I am happy Laura's version dropped the rap - that's never a good thing.

@stratosl Shut up! There is only one version, the original, of his creator, the Italian singer Raf. Laura Branigan was just a singer who copied all italian songs and exports to the U.S.A. Another song is Gloria by Umberto Tozzi, but the list is endless. you are Ignorant! Everyone knows that 90% of the songs and production happened 80/90 years are Italian.

This isn't bad; the arrangement is well put-together, and it has a nice groove. There are only two problems: he doesn't really seem comfortable singing in English, and the rap is atrocious.

I like this version more than the one of L- Branigan. I just heard her version did u ever realize that she sang out of tune! She is MUCH MUCH edited but in taht perios no AUTOTUNE existed and here u come... :-)

@IJustWatchEm71 Only months before Laura Branigan covered it. His was the one that came out first, then Jack White, Branigan's producer, heard it and like Umberto Tozzi's "Gloria", which was also originally an Italian song, had her cover it.
