I am very dissolusioned with democracy at this point. I have read Plato's and Nietszche's attacks against it, and democracy seems pitiful now. Anyone want to defend democracy? I live in a democracy and would like to see if someone could defend it's honor!

I believe you can live a better life with no fame and fortune, and without being envious towards celebrities. Harden your spirit and embrace your individuality so that whoever you meet, you won't say 'I wish I were another person'. That's the idea that stands behind Nietzsche's teachings, and regarding the people you mention it says "Thou shall not give a fuck".

@cherylwens well it's not about "truth", it's about character, so in a sense you need what Nietzsche called "the pathos of distance", although I agree that you don't need such people to actually be around, you can easily draw a comparison using your imagination (something like a "thought experiment"). that's at least what I think

I don't think it be sensible to call him the prophet of the third reich, because the third reich was nothing more than what Nietzsche called a manifestation of the "Herdentrieb". but from what motivation did Nazi leaders draw this ideology from, what purpose did it serve Hitler or Goebbels to exalt the "blonde beast"? And Himmler was again a very meek figure as opposed to the heroic ideals they all professed, most of the Nazis were not heroic, but pathetically weak and bureaucratic, how else could they have come up with such an effective way of killing and disposing millions of people in concentration camps. There is nothing heroic about gassing people like farm animals.
