I am very dissolusioned with democracy at this point. I have read Plato's and Nietszche's attacks against it, and democracy seems pitiful now. Anyone want to defend democracy? I live in a democracy and would like to see if someone could defend it's honor!
@TheDavid2222 I have thought that also..but that's why America has a democraic republic with a constitution and a separation of powers. If we can get rid of some of the corruption, if the leaders did their jobs instead of playing politics and being conditioned by the political correctness and weak ideas Marxism has instilled in our republic, then America would be much better. America's original system is the best the world has offered. It can still work if people read Jefferson, Madison, Paine
sorry on nietzche its a triffliing thing but should all morals be dealt out equal. i know the king should be a shepard, but should the shepard know this? and if the King in his high reloute find other mans passions to his fancy? who should be the sheperd then?
I believe you can live a better life with no fame and fortune, and without being envious towards celebrities. Harden your spirit and embrace your individuality so that whoever you meet, you won't say 'I wish I were another person'. That's the idea that stands behind Nietzsche's teachings, and regarding the people you mention it says "Thou shall not give a fuck".
Aesthetic is Nietzsche's new name for god! A new religion for elites. Aesthetic does not explain the origin of life though. Without this information all theories (optimistic pessimistic or neutral) are just recurrent guesses!
Man is something that shall be overcome. Yet, we have a culture where sluts like Paris Hilton and idiots like 50 cent are rewarded with fame and fortune and everything else that goes with it, where education is deemed superfluous if it isn't expedient. Preposterous!
@cherylwens if there is something that needs to be overcomed is this kind of thought where you call people something that you are not willing to apply to yourself.
@cherylwens well it's not about "truth", it's about character, so in a sense you need what Nietzsche called "the pathos of distance", although I agree that you don't need such people to actually be around, you can easily draw a comparison using your imagination (something like a "thought experiment"). that's at least what I think
@cherylwens I agree about PH but 50 Cent is an example of a self-made person who trancended typical norms and morality. Say what you want about his music but one can not deny what he has accomplished for himself.
Our culture is extremely Marxist which is a system that Nietzsche would loathe. If our culture were not Marxist, I doubt the example of 50 Cent would hold up. Nice try.
A. So? I was still replying to what you (and by extension others) had written. I was simply making clear that 50 Cent hardly represents the Ubermensch that Nietzsche describes. A black thug being promoted by white Jews to sell filth to children hardly fits Nietzsche's concept. Your definition of "self-made" is also pretty dubious. Sounds like Steve Jobs or something. And how did he transcend anything?
@Debaser11 Do you think that "a black thug being thug being promoted by white Jews to sell filth to children" is incompatible with Nietzsche's concept?
"In "Der Eigene" of August 10, 1896, there appeared a letter written by him and giving, among other things, certain data from which to judge that, when Friedrich Nietzsche wrote his later essays, Nietzsche was not ignorant of Stirner's book."
" We owe to Dr. Eduard von Hartmann the unquestionable service which he rendered by directing attention to this book in his "Philosophie des Unbewußten," the first edition of which was published in 1869, and in other writings. I do not begrudge Dr. von Hartmann the liberty of criticism which he used; and I think the admirers of Stirner's teaching must quite appreciate one thing which Von Hartmann did at a much later date."
"Nothing is more to me than myself." - Max Stirner
Nietzsche denied himself, in favor of his "overself". For Stirner, it seems that man -- or, more precisely, Stirner himself, -- is something to be enthroned. For Nietzsche, "what is admirable in man is that he is a bridge and an overcoming" and man, or the self, is only praiseworthy to the extent that it is engaged in its own transcendance.
NIetzsche is a fraud? How can a person be a fraud?
Read Thus Spake Zarathrustra, and I think you will change your mind. It's not perfect, it's not truth, but if you are not moved in some form then you didn't read it.
I'm glad that this video series is sparking some intellectual conversation. It's always good to be able to have dissenting views and to be able to have discussion.
However, keep things CIVIL. Insults and personal attacks are pointless. If you have a strong opinon, present evidence to support your claims and cut the BS.
what these university twirps dont understand is that Nietzsche represented a revival of the ancient pre-christian priesthood, he was a disciple of the orpheics and the pre-socratic philosophers. Nietzsche was the prophet of the 3d reich. its only too bad that that great era of humanity ended in favor of the human disease called parliamentary democracy
I don't think it be sensible to call him the prophet of the third reich, because the third reich was nothing more than what Nietzsche called a manifestation of the "Herdentrieb". The Nazi leaders were self-hating pitiful people, full of ressentiment towards anyone and anthing that made them feel weak and so needed to lash out against it through totalitarianism and genocide.
I heard enough of this pityfull jive and judeo-christian self-righteousnes. nietzsches hatred for the democracy and the judeo-christianity is well documented. i care not for your distorted view of history influenced by decades of jew propaganda Nietzsche heralded the birth of the blonde beast and the coming of a new empire based not only science but faith a new religion, a revaluation of all values. third reich was more than an idea it was the birth of a new relgion the cult of blood and flesh.
but from what motivation did Nazi leaders draw this ideology from, what purpose did it serve Hitler or Goebbels to exalt the "blonde beast"? It was not by an aesthetic affirmation of their own selves but by some form of self-hatred at their own physical decrepitude and Jewish ancestry. And saying that Nietzsche was in favour of a new religion is a crass misreading of anyone who was against systems. Such a fallacy could probably only come from some deluded reading into Nietzsche's own words.
wrong word faith, should have said a new belief system, a new morality. nietzsche foresaw the birth of a new belief it was a revival of the caste system and ancient greek aristocratic model. as for goebbels and hitler theres no proof they were jewish, more jew propaganda. it wasnt hitler or goebels who created the aryan ideal it was himmler. none the less the third reich was an unbeliavable creation, a revaluation of all values. but humanity was not ready to accept it. it is human all too human
what do you mean revaluation of all values? Anti-Semitism is a phenomenon older than a millenia, and the Nazis only fed off of that. And Himmler was again a very meek figure as opposed to the heroic ideals they all professed, most of the Nazis were not heroic, but pathetically weak and bureaucratic, how else could they have come up with such an effective way of killing and disposing millions of people in concentration camps. There is nothing heroic about gassing people like farm animals.
you dont understand nothing about the third reich only the shallow info you get from the history channel. the victors have allways re-written history, and im not concerned with the petty ways of a fading judeo-christian civilization. anti-semitism can be physical or ideological. nietzche opposed judaism in ideological level not on a personal level he had many jewish friends. as for himmler and the third reich what they created was larger than themselves therefore ad-hominem attacks dont count
...The 'redemption' of the human race (from the lords, that is) is well under way; everything is rapidly becoming Judaized, or Christianized, or mob-ized -- the word makes no difference...."
[The Birth of Tragedy and The Genealogy of Morals, translated by Francis Golffing, Doubleday Anchor Books, 1956, pp.169-170]
"...Let us face facts: the people have triumphed -- or the slaves, the mob, the herd, whatever you wish to call them -- and if the Jews brought it about, then no nation ever had a more universal mission on earth. The lords are a thing of the past, and the ethics of the common man is completely triumphant. I don't deny that this triumph might be looked upon as a kind of blood poisoning, since it has resulted in a mingling of the races but there can be no doubt that the intoxication has succeeded
wow this is an amazing piece of information. I mean it is quite extraordinary as the say for a German author to write in such a style, this mixture of poetry with hard concepts.
its not very surprising once you understand where nietzsche comes from. he comes from the aryan pagan collective unconsciousness, where the arts of philosophy, magick and poetry were fused into one. Nietzsche is a pagan high priest
i wouldnt trust what you learn in your shitty college. if you want to learn truth, you have to throw yourself into the fire. you learn nothing in school
