in terms of looks, no he's not the best choice, but he definitley has the right attitude that henry is supposed to have. I think he portrays him perfectly.

I mean face it, I don't think the show would be as popular if we were watching an old fat guy get laid, not that that is the only reason i watch it.

But he is *supposed* to be fat and have health problems and it has already been implied that he's starting to have problems in his legs

Surely Henry will get fatter and ugly in future episodes - the actor is far too goodlooking anyway - already after Anne was executed he was pigging out with all the juice running down his chin. You can't blame the producers of the Tudors for not wanting Jonathan Rhy Meyers/Henry VIII to pack on the lbs. or wear a fat suit. The show is popular and well acted in spite of overly dramatized style and script of the series. Henry VIII died at age of 55 which was old way back when but he was grievely sick and fat. That dramatically would be unappealing and hard for actor too naturally slim build actor to alter his wt. could be dangerous for Meyers. Henry VIII was like 300lbs. at time of death
