  • Its the key cylinder on the ignition switch. The tumblers go bad and it wont read key right, so you have to replace that ignition key cylinder. Thats why theft light comes on. Ive had to replace mine 2 times in 3 years. Their just junk. It shuts off fuel delivery to engine for 10 minutes

  • THANKS SOOO MUCH!!!!! I couldnt get my malibu to start after taking it too mulitple mechanics; I came across this video and tried it and whooo-lah it started...my husband was sooo shocked!! you helped me fix my car!!!!

  • I've had my share of problems with my Malibu. But never this problem. And I've had it since it was new out the showroom

  • CHEVY MALIBUS are CRAP! I have been dealing with this for 2 years! Lost a job b/c I was constantly late! I am going tomorrow to install a remote starter,I researched and found this to be the best bet (after 2 mech. selling me NEW ignitions!) Funny how I gotta leave my car running while grocery shopping b/c of theft system huh, maybe someone will steal it. I try to explain to ppl why I am late,I say the theft light comes on and I gotta wait ten mins, they look like I am lying!Piece of shit Malibu

  • everybody keep sayin it was the battery. i knew it wasnt. I tried it for 10mins and the theif system light did go off but when i try to turn it back on. No lights or no power came back on. I think its the car computer system. i need sumbody help plz

  • i hate chevys and if it had pissed me off to the point like it did you i would have WENT IN reverse with the gas all the way down and been so mad

  • You definitely just saved me ALOT of money! My car did the exact same thing. Thank you for the vids!

  • why gm,,should people have to wait around for your cars to start...if i was a bank robber i would stay away from these cars..hahahaha

  • i have the same problem and i waited for 10 minutes but the "theft system" indicator is still showing, i waited for even more and it is still there

any idea how to fix my problem?

  • wow i have this problem right now, this happened to me back in march of this year, i was at friends house and the car wouldnt start until the next day. now when i turn key on the theft system light blinks, im going to try the 10 minute thing, hope it works.

  • Don't take it to the machanic! You need to get into the ignition! There is a video that explains it all! EASY to do, if you need help get at me. I'm always on youtube through my phone :) i'll be glad to help.... Don't spend money on a new ignition or starter and don't pay a locksmith!

  • I have this same effing problem with my 2002 Malibu. The more the Passlock system on my car "goes off" (as my boyfriend and I call it) the more I desperately want a different car. I know as soon as I do I will NEVER EVER, for as long as I live, own or drive another Chevy.

  • I have the same issue with my 2004 Monte Carlo. Every now and then it will not start... Turn ignition back to the "on" position and leave it there for 10 minutes, turn back off and re-start the car. this has to be a computer glitch in the safety interlock system.... Shame on GM for NOT correcting this problem with a recall!

  • I own a 2002 Malibu that did that. I replaced to ignition switch and my ''theft'' light comes on,i just pull over and turn off the car and it fires right back up! I'm thinking about going back to my Honda Civic. I don't like American cars.

  • @19914568 dont give up, ford still makes quality shit

  • Thanks alot brother This helped out greatly thank you thank you

  • -Your hilarious ! and im going to try it out , you know how mad i get when these happens !
