@shanexcleermedia no far longer than that. I changed mine out like 2 a week maybe 3 times on the crazy weeks and i everyday heavy use so it can take some punishment. After that really it comes down to personal preference.

I taught that bongs filter out tar from the smoke but i tried the test it myself, take a swiffer dry pad an put it over your bong and inhale. See for yourself what sticks to it.

@bnz500 No thc is in the smoke wich passes right thru, what it is filtering is the ash and other half burnt resinous ash and tar that goes into your lungs as well

I recently got a carbon filter. I'm thinking its best that i change the carbon rocks soon. Do i have to specialty order the carbon rocks from a website, go to a head shop, or could i just plain save time and money by using the carbon rocks that i use in my fish tank filter?

Did you know that you also should run some water through the adapter w/carbon in it before using fresh carbon? and keep it moist if you can.

@ransom1020 He probably misunderstood something. The carbon should be rinsed before use but allowed to dry. Wet carbon can release toxic gas.

THC is to small to be filtered out by it, only larger bits of tar and ash is filtered look that ROOR website as they sell one and i believe they go more in depth, and i can tell you right now the effect is very much the same except with a cleaner piece and this comes from a chronic smoker who does it everyday from the moment i wake

@ransom1020 The point of a carbon filter isn't to filter the large things... quite frankly it's pointless with the water in the bong, but rather chemicals. Try looking up activated charcoal or activated carbon and you might get a better idea how it works

I would guess that THC is a chemical that doesn't react with the carbon very well, if at all, and thus most of it goes through unaffected.

@aquablade It is not pointless at all. It will reduce the need to clean your bong/change the water, as smoke is just tiny, sticky carbon particles, and further smooth your hits. Keep on toking.

@Erickavila THC is non-polar, and is not attracted to the charged carbon, so it will pass through without interference. To put it simply, it will not reduce your high. Evidence? Science, my friend.

Cleaning it out is like the easiest thing to do in the whole damn green earth to do as well so don't let that fear stop you either. @BlikeNave i smoke pretty heavy and i only changed it 2 to 3 times a week but it just depends on personal preference, it gets dirty catches alot of crap, but its so easy to change its not really an issue

got 3 carbonfilters on my icetower :D a 14,5 with a 18,8 coupled + the 14,5 of 18,8 adapter filled too . result = 22cm of pure carbon. the filter effect is amazing and the high alot stronger (?!)

@ELFHUNTER50 to be honest i'm not sure that will work, i do know you can get a bucket of them from the store that sells the actual piece, and you can also get them at a pet store with a fish section they sell buckets of the carbon pieces as well

I have the EHLE brand one. Its amazing how smooth the smoke is after being filtered. It keeps your bong water almost clean enough to drink after pretty heavy use.

@XxBrandon98xX That's cool and all, but i hear the carbon gets clogged up, How much abuse can it really take before starting to cause allot of drag? I used to just use ash catchers, but out of my 2 GEAR percs, my 3 peice catcher broke and now my one piece broke so i'm looking for something new replace.

I'm gonna guess... maybe 25-40 hits. Ash catchers are way more convenient. But, they don't make the hit as smooth as the carbon filter does.

@XxBrandon98xX Yea, i talked to someone i know who has one and got the just of it. Great for keeping it clean, also kind of gives a different taste to the smoke. If you take a few hits here and there it's great, but i've been smoking for going on 9 years now, so my sessions are pretty brutal on a piece. Thanks though, i went to my local head shop and bought a brand new inline with a big marble and some nice work on it. Should tie me over for awhile :P
