Those were the times when the word "talent" meant every letter. Unlike today standars. Such a beautiful actress who is among my favorites after Jane Fonda.
@richardartedigital She can sing, but what's with the mouth and neck gyrations--she looks like she's trying to loosen up her jaw and a kink in her neck. She got much better when whe quit trying to be so cutie-pie-ish. The only other thing I didn't like about her was the way she was always sticking her hands out in front of her like a puppy-dog begging. And she was pretty then, but she was BEAUTIFUL after she lightened her hair. She was meant to be a redhead. She is STILL beautiful.
For what is probably her first screen test, you have to respect her comfort and ease in front of the camera. For someone totally unfamiliar with the camera, I think she did an amazing job with the song and in creating a persona to engage the audience.
@JudgeHulieLit...You IGNORANT SLUT (to quote Dan Akelroyd)...Take your head outta your A** for Christ's sake!!! ....This........ is ANN-MARGARET........and THAT'S just ONE part of what ANN-MARGARET does....She's done BROADWAY, FILMS, TV & STAGE . Won 5 Golden Globes, nominated TWICE for an Academy award, FIVE TIMES for an Emmy and WON an Emmy in 2010 for an appearance on Law & Order SVU....Elitist, Would-be writers like you, are embarrassments to themselves....Adios, UR a GHOST!!!
@JoshMich1985 - I've seen that video too but I can't find it on YouTube now. It is a GREAT performance. I'm still searching for it - someone must have taken it down.
@MosesAron It IS bad -- she's way over hammy. And her persona is incoherent -- sings partly in a Spanish accent as if she's a seniorita (that works well in "Fever" because is consistently maintained throughout the song), then in an American English accent. And her emotions are wildly irrelevant to the meaning of the story. Her delivery is hyperbolic, overly done camp; it serves her narcissism, but not the song.
Weren't there some honeys in those days? I agree about Jane Fonda too, also Natalie Wood, all stunners.

Her doing this song doesn't work for me at all. She's cute, but her doing the song is just all wrong. It's far too cutesy and frankly obnoxious.

When you have talent, you can do it any way you want.

Cool. Is this some kind of audition for State Fair? the background looks like the one from the State Fair.
LoveHowardBanister 2 years ago
I believe this footage is from her 1961 screen test at 20th Century Fox, a year before she did "State Fair."

She did good singing Mack the Knife but I think she did a really great job singing Bill Bailey.
