Yes, but to hit something with 50mph, you would have to be asleep or doing 100mph before braking to 50mph few seconds later. If you are doing legal 65-70mph speed, you by the time you hit the brakes, you are already doing under 40mph.

So if the person closest to the collision doesn't get hurt as much, then that would explain why my brother got the broken foot and I just got major whiplash and bruises, even though my brother was driving and I was in the passenger seat and the truck hit the passenger side. Hm interesting.
