I used to watch these planes do approaches at McClellan AFB in North Sacramento back in the early eighties. Up north of the base and east of Rio Linda you could get a great view of the plane.

If by UAV you mean Unmanned Areal Vehicle, then the U-2 are again, not UAVs.

You can look it up on wikipedia or google pictures, and James May from Top Gear even flew to near space in one (great video I might add)!

Love it! I was stationed at Osan Air Base in S. Korea and our Patriot site was right next to the airstrip that the A-10s and U-2 used. This was in '99 and they used a '99 Camaro SS for the chaser. Was a blast to watch, but just as fun was listening (or being deafened by) the U-2 going vertical. BADASS!

The U2 spy plane is very hard to land. It is light, has a huge wingspan, and will float in the air forever. The pilot literally has to stall it when it is close to the ground. Moreover, the plane has to be level or it will tip over and crash. Finally, ground visibility is virtually nil for the pilot. A chase car is needed to talk the pilot down
