True, I realized that he brought a huge pop/rnb sound inspiration in 2001 with this album. Sound that we can later hear with other artist like Justin Timberlake or Britney. Now I think these two are a bit amateur compared to Michael.

But if you think of 'pop' = popular culture such as movies, all forms of dance & music (jazz, blues, classical) and icons such as peter pan and the nutcracker. then I think Michael is the king of pop because he was able to bring them all together & create something totally new with all of that: the music video. He revolutionized both short film and music. But I do prefer the terms artist, visionary, poet, healer, leader.
Mj is a great artist and I love his music but I think that his 2001 album didn't sell as well as he expected b/c it wasn't as good as the previous ones. I don't think there was a conspiracy against him.

Dude.. they didn't even MENTION the album Blood on the Dance Floor! That album and Invincible are so underrated. Seriously... I'm old school (pre- Off the wall years for you young folks LOL) and I still love some of the songs on those 2 albums more than some of the older ones! So very under rated. :(

to go platinum - 1,000,000 copies has to be sold

@ chidoricachan - Du hast so recht. Aber vielleicht ist in den USA wirklich wichtig welche Hautfarbe Du hast (für mich absolut unverständlich - hier in Deutschland werden Farbige eher bevorzugt :-)). Ein so guter Mensch wie MJ hat so etwas nicht verdient. Der Freispruch war das einzig Richtige und Gerechte.
Ich glaube MJ kann auch jetzt unsere Wäreme und Liebe zu ihm spüren.

well when i was 10 i was watching his 30th annerversiry special when it premeried & was listening to MJ's music & watching his videos! so dont say ''suddenly 17 year olds'' say some cuz i grew up on MJ's music and im 18.. so happy i had a family that never believed any of the bullshit lies that was always being said about him & would always play his music . Mixed reviews?! I thought Invincible was an amazing album.. way better than History. I think Sony messed it up and that's why it wasn't received well by the public. Still sold 10 milion. "Falling Star"... yeah right! His vocals on that album were amazing!

Well that's not all true. I turned 18 in May, and my mom raised me and my brothers on Michael's music (I'm black so it understandable. LOL) I've been a fan of his since I was a child (literally). I remember my mother always letting me and my brother stay up late to watch Michael's videos. Hell, I remember being extremely scared of the "Thriller" video!
When I was 10, Michael's album "Invincible" came out, and my mom bought it for me. I remember watching Michael's 30th Anniversary Show too.

You're lucky because in my background, nobody initiated me to his music, nobody teach me the great entertainer he was, no one understands my admiration for him so I never had the support of anyone when I say How much I love him + to make it worst I was born in 1991 so I had the bad images that media was projecting about him. What I'm trying to say is that some teens, like me, did know who Michael was before his death. I'm not fans of any of the people you named except Michael, because he is a true artist. Yes, lucky you that you got to watch him in the 80s, we were lucky to be born at that time. I can call myself a mourner because I've been a fan of Michael's all my life. I was born to damn late, Hell I so wish I could live in that era and vibrate to MJ's phenomena. When he was the King of the 80's, witnessing the birth of a legend and I could have had passionate conversations about him with my friends, but it's not the case. I can't share this passion I have for this artist with any of my friends or even my family. So I chat with MJ fans on youtube instead ;) He's one of my heros too (along with Barack Obama)

Just want to add that I don't like the term King of POP on him, he was far MORE than that. I cringe whenever I hear someone compare Brittany's Spears or Justin Timberlakes music to his. He is FAR better than them.
In general I HATE pop culture, I'd rather listen to Simon & Garfunkel, Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, Joan Baez, Stevie Wonder, Sinatra, etc, than listen to the pop music of today, but with MJ is different. I don't consider him a POP musician I consider him a TRUE artist.

Hi NaturVita Initially, I didn't like the term King of Pop. But if you think of 'pop' = popular culture such as movies, all forms of dance & music (jazz, blues, classical) and icons such as peter pan and the nutcracker. then I think Michael is the king of pop because he was able to bring them all together & create something totally new with all of that: the music video. He revolutionized both short film and music. But I do prefer the terms artist, visionary, poet, healer, leader.

Mj is a great artist and I love his music but I think that his 2001 album didn't sell as well as he expected b/c it wasn't as good as the previous ones. I don't think there was a conspiracy against him.

You are 100% about him being above all the singers ( very little of them are true Musicians) of today, BUT selling a bunch of records DOES not make a singer Good opr great IMO. Justin Timberlake apparently sells a lot of records and I honestly don't think he is that great of an entertainer. I will admit that in MJs case he sold many records because he was GENUINELY a true Musician.
