  • Gotta love fishing Long Island Sound!

  • u guyz can catch em

  • i buy double bucktails top one is like urs but in white and bottom one is like 3-4 oz. we dnt use weights cuz of the jig heads

  • belmar. i don't know. maybe 20 or 30 ft

  • What type of boat are you fishing from? Thanks.

  • @kwarnisplayer

    A 1982 16-ft starcraft aluminum.

  • @jskinner5278 i use the bucktails with squid it has good action and can you please try this: Buy 6 in. tsunami holagraphic squid in a green color and tell me if they work u can jig them on a regular fluke hook my dad bought them like a month ago and its not fluke season

  • @jskinner5278 i use the bucktails like just jigging them up abd down slowly but some japanease guys on the boat were jigging em like u guyz and caught like 15 fluke only 1 keeper though we had a bad day

  • @jskinner5278 u guyz know how 2 catch em

  • @kwarnisplayer

    A 1982 16-ft starcraft aluminum.

  • you don't use any sinker?

  • @theklamp1

No, just the bucktail for weight.

  • @jskinner5278

I always need a sinker and then i cant jig it right

  • @theklamp1

Where do you fish? How deep?

  • i went fishing and some guy told my uncle that if your the last guy fishing your lucky and i think its true since we caught a fluke at the first 5 min

  • Try my Bucktails for Fluking, you wont be disappointed. The quality is the same if not better than SPRO and I sell them a lot cheaper.

  • What's so special about Spro Bucktails? Thanks.

  • @1973Saved

They don't have to be SPROs. They work well though.

  • @1973Saved if you compare a spro bucktail to many other competitors they just have a better look to them first off, second well balanced for good action and letting it sit on the bottom right up, and gamakatsu hooks just an amazing jig just use one and you'll see

  • omg 21inches to keep! I thought it was bad haveing 18 here in NJ

  • Very nice video, lots of valuable information there. Thanks for taking the time & effort to produce & post it.

My question is; How do you locate good fluke areas, what type of bottom etc? Thanks.

  • @1973Saved

Where I fish it's a sandy bottom with sandeels as the predominant baitfish. We focus a lot on areas where there's a depth change, like slopes and ledges.

  • Great video, thank you for your effort and sharing your tatics with us.

  • nice fish :) fluke fishing is Great !

  • @jbones3390 Cont. Both boats have afare of 55$ and they go out from 7:30an to 2:30pm great fishing !!! GET A DOORMAT

  • @jbones3390 For that many people you should go on a partybt. However in New Jersey the fluke only have to be 18'' to keep. If you fish in NJ youll have a better chance of keeping more fish. There are two great party boats with excellent mates on board in NJ. One of them is the Ocean Explorer which is runed by Captian Bobby Quinn, it sails out of Belmar NJ right on route35! The other is the Seahorse which is runed by Captian Ed Bunting, it sails out of the Atlantic Highlands Municipical Harbor.

  • John,

I plan on fishing in NY in the Long Island Sound (LIS) for my 21st Birthday Gift because of watching your success!!! I need some help in terms of finding charters who could take me and my 7 family members. My family is from NJ and PA. We would be traveling from the Rutgers area (NJ). I need help finding an active spot in LIS (similar to your success, which was where?) in the July & August months. Suggesting waters to fish, closer to NJ area if possible, would be great!

    Thanks,

    Jeremy S

  • @Jbones3390

For 8 people I think you'd need to go on a Party Boat. The ones that fish the waters near the video are the Celtic Quest and Osprey from Port Jefferson, and the Capt. Bob from Mattituck. Note that we start losing the bigger fish around July 15, and I wouldn't even consider making the trip in August.

  • @Jbones3390

check out the james joseph as well

  • When was this video taken and at what time, was it high tide, low tide and where did you get those lures.

  • @emlax20

May 16, 2010, 1-3pm, first of outgoing. Most tackle shops carry those SPRO Prime bucktails.

  • You know any good tips for summer flounder fishing in the Gulf of Mexico (Texas-Louisiana Coast)

  • @oGabe97

I haven't fished the Gulf for flounder, but I bet the jigging technique in the video would work.

  • @oGabe97 For the gulf use a nuclear chicken gulp shrimp slowly popped off the bottom, the fish up here are more lethargic than in the gulf from my experiences

  • Awesome vid! What type of set up would you use if you are in deeper water or a faster drift?

  • @JMGZ8

I use heavier bucktails and gear in deeper water with faster current.

  • Great Video!!!

  • Great Video John Loved it :) Pablo

  • damn you guys we're nailing them that day..with the new 21' bullshit i find it real hard to catch keepers in the back bays here on the south shore long island. Caught maybe 7 to 10 all year with about 20 trips out.

  • @Bbfishman yeah they were all short last year in the sound, could you tell me bout how may fluke you caught that weren't keepers and where you got them? im compiling data for a collage corse. good luck in the new year

  • @anarcho123flyfish hahaha yea you're compiling data. How bout you're looking for fishing spots to go to and catch fish yourself....I usually fish Jones Inlet or a little bit east of the 2nd wantagh parkway bridge.

  • i thought you weren't supposed to "bounce your bucktail"?

  • @tennnnn

I said that about surfcasting for stripers. For whatever reason, fluke seem attracted to the rapid bouncing. It's especially noticeable on slow days when they won't touch a strip rod.

  • u think i can use a arrowhead bucktail 2 1/2 with a gulp alive black shad 4 inch or to big

  • @minichinatown

I'm not sure. It might work out if you're in deep water, but that's quite a bit different than the 20' jigging we did in the video.

  • can you please tell me were you are fishing lol

  • We use bucktails between 3/4 and 1.5 ounces, usually 1 ounce. If you were fishing larger bait strips, you'd need to go a little heavier to stay down because the bait strips (except squid) have more drag in the water than Gulp.

We use a small SPRO barrel swivel between the braid and the fluoro.

7:1 gear ratio on those reels.

  • when you were using your bucktails, you were saying you onlu use around 1lb, would you use the same size bucktail as weight you would when fishing with bait? please respond back

  • are you using a barrel swivel between the bradied and flurocarbon?

  • what is the gear ratio on that reel?

  • What quantum reel is that? is it left or right hand retrieve and how much does it generally cost?

  • @Bullseye115

Accurist 570PT. If you google "quantum accurist flipping switch" you should find a very similar reel for about $100. We use right-handed reels.

  • wish we had fluke (summer flounder) in my area...I have to target the smaller less aggressive species winter flounder, which don't usually take them type baits :-)
