  • damn

  • Haven't watched this in ages. Still soooo love it.

  • I love this song...and I can't even put my finger on why. But I just do.

  • Me & my mate have adopted this as our bus song. Whenever it comes on we lip-sync to it...people tend to avoid us.

  • subbed

  • Force sent me here.

  • What has this got to do with SC2? :O

  • @ych22 Nothing. Force just liked this video and so you got the notice, that ForceSC2Strategy did "Like" this Video. Nothing else.

  • How do you plan for a bank full of nuns!?

  • 1:52 funny and meaningfull

  • @MisterSartor While I respect your opinion, and am glad that you can find a deeper meaning for yourself in the song...it's funny as fuck if it's just about a hold up at a bank. :D

  • im in love with this song! we are doing a play in school that is literally this song! its so good!! haha. and this is amazing!!!

  • Love this song, I think I should do it for our schools variety show.

  • my friend will used to sing this song to me at camp during the summer and i love hearing it played again with an acoustic guitar and your voice. your covers are great! :)

  • WHO are these people that hit dislike,, are they just so bored with their life they feel they just have to be different???

  • BNL is the only Canadian band/artist eva

  • There is more talent in that bathroom then most record production companies lobby's over the course of a year.

Artist's like this make me proud to be Canadian.

  • Great voice. Good Song x

  • this is my Song for my lyrical dance! XD

  • FANTASTIC song. (4 people missed the like button?)

Absolutely marvelous--love this acoustic version, great to jam along with bass & guitar :)

  • like this if you think BNL should make a music video of this song!!

  • I love Canada.

  • Amazing song...When I first heard it, I was in awe. It was amazig then, and it's amazing now.

  • it simple jest rob the bank and teave the nuns alone

  • is it just me or are the songs eddie sings 10x better?i thought the real singer was just a four eyed tambourine playing back up singer for a while hahaha. BNL's hits have reallly been eddie. he is the soul of BNL

  • @hendrixt27 Ed is definitely 10x better at singing either his songs or Steven's songs. I just saw them in A.C. a few weeks ago, and he did an awesome job picking up the extra vocals. I also have always liked the songs he writes better, anyway! They rock because of him.

  • is there something going on in the band??

  • i love this song

  • "I guess we panicked; we all have taboos.

They were like zebras- they has us confused." I nominate this as, hands down, the CLEVEREST bit of song-writing so far this century... err, millenium, even.

  • Love this song...great story

  • anyone know the chordz?

  • Boo bitstudio. No enid? Really!?

Also Tribar42 I'm sure June Rowlands feels worse.

  • one of my favorite BNL songs. 4th to If i had a million dollars, pinch me, one week.

  • man the only ONLY thing I don't love about BNL is the band name whenever I say something like "Have you heard of Barenaked Ladies?" people just stare and it's really pissing me off

  • I'm sure that was their plan. haha

  • I've always held this song to be a comment on life being unpredictable and friends turning on each other in times of trouble. Blame. Finger pointing, embarrassment of failed plans within friendship . . . simple as that. The idea of a "bank job" is just the husk to hold the metaphor.

  • @MisterSartor Just an fyi: Ed wrote this song for his kids as a whimsical 'bedtime song' if my memory serves correct.

  • They were going to rob a bank but they got scared and surprised due to the many nuns;they got confused. Since they panicked they ran away and are on6 o'clock news instead in hotel rooms with oceanfront views. They got caught by cops so they blamed the leader for chickening so he went to jail the rest of the gang simply walked away.

  • I don't think it is about blame placing. The song tells the story of the driver in a bank job, and the planner. When the bank was full of nuns, the planner choked, while it is implied the driver shot him some nuns. (I'm all for compassion, just not on my time.) When the planner is caught by they cops, the driver tries to make him the fall guy.

I think it is more about morality, although I'm still puzzling about what it is saying about morality.

  • i dont think he shot anybody i think the driver pinned the whole thing on somebody else and its dime not time

  • "so ill take a walk now and you do the time he pinned it on someone"

  • Inspiring-Such as all of the Barenaked Ladies great music.

    <3 Love you guys!

  • its about one of two things i think.

ONE, its about learning how to place blame on an entire group instead of an individual, or on an individual instead of an entire group. bassically blame placing

    TWO

the whole past life relationship thing discusses earlier.

  • i think its kinda about life and how we cant expect and know everything that is to come and sometimes we just need to sit back and let things unfold as they must thats what i think mate

  • Ed is Aewsome!!

Thanks for being so damn skilled

  • agreed

  • This is an awesome song!!!

  • either that or its just about robbing a bank

  • I think reboog711 might be on to something with this past life thing i never though of the song like that but it makes perfect sense

  • I love this song

  • Wonderful! I like this version

  • Prove it.

  • ROCK ON EDDIE ROBERTSON. amazing guitar.

  • I've had the song stuck in my head literally for a week solid. Actually the reason I decided to finally after years of saying maybe to take piano (from the live released version). Awesome vid.

  • i actually think Ed can find life after Steven

  • I love this song, the first time I heard it the first bit sounded like a failed bank robbery written from jail, but then later when I heard the whole thing I was laughing. "How do you prepare for a bank full of nuns"

That caught me off guard, and that is why I love the BNL, they are just epic!

  • In my past life I was a musician. This songs sounds to me like a metaphor for a bad gig; and having to drive to the next one while they are all silently blaming each other and themselves for the failure.

  • okay, sounds plausible, but past life?

  • Have you ever changed a career, or even just switched jobs? Or even lost a long term relationship and had to start a new.

The previous job / career / activities / relationship are your past lives.

  • Ah, I thought you meant like in a previous life, like before the current lifetime you are in. Makes sense then!

  • So why not say you used to be a professional musician and avoid all the confusion?

  • powerful lyrics... amazing

  • I cried when i found out steven paige was not in the band anymore. but i still love ed as much as my mom and all of my former lovers and hyperbole combined.

  • I've probably watched this video 500 times in the past couple months.

  • Just awesome...your music is awesome!!

  • amazing

  • Yeah these videos are super great. Thank you for keeping it just like everyone else posting you shit on youtube lol AWESOME!!!

  • A famous musician casually camcords himself singing his songs and posts them youtube. ...very cool

You boys are defintely one of a kind.

  • Couldnt have said it better, well said free bird100

  • Thank you for sharing these videos on you tube. I love them as much as the originals. Can I buy a recording of them.

You need to make a cd. Please ;)

TY for making me another reason to be proud of being Canadian!!!!

  • In grade 5, I laughed when my teacher said her favorite band was the barenaked ladies. I got the greatest hits CD one year for christmas, and when I became older, I worked for a local radio station, which played a lot of your new stuff. now every single album is on my ipod, and it's the best music to listen to when I have something to think about. the most relaxing feeling, is the sound of your voice(s).

  • Absolutely FANTASTIC!!

    Gotta love these Bathroom Sessions!

  • Your Awsome man..!! Keep it up.

  • These guys are my favorite band. Ed, you sound awesome. Are these bathroom sessions on a CD i can buy?!?! anyone know?!?

  • Even without keys - awesome!

  • WOOT

    lol

    u kno wut? i don't need attitude either :D

we DID all do our best, didn't we? dude, the lyrics are phenominal. i don't wanna sound like just another comment, but it IS truly a great song! long live the bnl. :)

  • This may be my favorite BNL song. I'm not sure, 'cause they've got a lot of great ones. This is definitely in my top five if nothing else. It's so beautiful.

  • ed RULES! hes got a great voice and i cant wait until ican actually SEE BnL in concert :D

  • I've seen them 3 times, once in a smaller theatre, and it's never the same show. Do whatever you have to to get the tickets!

  • Your vocals are amazing... and it doesn't hurt that you are so hawt either!

  • Wonderful! I like this version; the softer acoustic elements speak to the emotions. ChristpherMast enjoys singing this when he goes live on blogtv and stickam, it's a fantastic song and he does it justice. (He would shush me though.)

  • I just learned to play this. Just one of many many great songs by BNL. Keep it up!!

  • I love this song.

  • My favorite BNL song.

  • This is quickly becoming my favorite BNL song. The lyrics are great.

  • maybe he does have the lyrics off to the side and he looks to make sure he's singing the correct song since there are so many in his brain they sometimes meld together and form one mutant bnl brain glob of doom. he has to check the sheet to keep it in check so the brain ball of song doom doesn't destroy canada.

maybe there is no paper and he's looking out a window at a squirrel giving a blue jay brain surgery.

my point is, why does it matter? he's awesome no matter what. don't we agree?

  • I would agree with all of that. Especially the squirrel part.

  • If you listen to this song enough times, you can memorize it, it's very easy to learn.

  • never heard this one before, but i love it. very creative. :)

  • It's from Barenaked Ladies are Me, FYI.

  • Lovely! Funny and very detailed!

  • Just everyone relax. Enjoy the humor.

  • He could possibly be watching his fingering, not a "sheet". Just a guess.

  • or just zoning, you know concentrating

  • whatever, I just doubt he's reading the song he wrote and performs live frequently off of a sheet.

  • Hmmmm... Well Even The Best People Can't Remember Everything. And He Must Be Under Stress Doing This Afraid Hes Gonna Mess Up. Therefore..... Music Sheet.

  • Its his song, why would he have to read the words from a sheet?????

  • He's Not Reading The Lyrics From A Sheet. He's Just Looking At The Neck Of His Guitar To Make Sure He Has The Chord Right. Maybe You Shouldn't Type With The First Letter Of Every Word As A Capital Letter. It Would Be More Grammatically Correct.

  • God damn! You seriously don't get it! He HAS the song memorized! And he did when he recorded this version! Stop trying to fuck up his reputation when you know we're right. True, he can't remember every song they perform. But he remembers this one, so just stop. No! I don't even want to hear your response, because I know that whatever you have to say in reply is wrong. Also, STOP with the capital letters starting every word! It's really annoying.

  • Alright, Forget "Grammatically Correct". How About Just Common Courtesy And Message Board Etiquette. IT'S REALLY FREAKING ANNOYING WHEN YOU CAPITALIZE THE FIRST LETTER OF EVERY SINGLE FREAKING WORD YOU TYPE!

If Consideration For Others Isn't Enough, Then Please, Do It For Your Pinky. Stop Over Capitalizing Before Your Pinky Falls Off. Or You May Wear Out Your Shift Key. Then Where Would You Be?

    ~

  • We totally served him at Tim Hortons today. That man loves his sprinkle doughnuts, and his/BNL's music are the colourful sprinkles that make life great.

  • Really! You Served Him!!! Wow!

  • I loooooovvvvveeee this song

  • AAAAAAWESOME!

I've downloaded these tracks from their site to my cellphone and always play them when I take a shower. The acoustics is fenomenal ^^

  • I think I like this better than the album version. Ed, you are a LEGEND among mere mortals.

  • he needs to stop kicking so much ass. i am getting insanely jealous. i have been playing guitar and writing songs for about a year but i know i'll never be as amazing as BNL

  • How do you think I feel with guitar myself?

  • i was looking at there cd's today and they had "are me" and "are men" which ones newer cause that was confusing me man

  • "are me" has "are men" and another disc, so if you were planning on buying one or the other, I'd go with "are me"

  • no, it's the other way around to that. "Are men" is the newest one with "are me" in it.

  • This was that song on the album that you like instantly and hum for weeks.

  • This is one of my favourite songs... I've added it to my own set.

  • One of my faves from this album - great storytelling. BNL needs to cvome back to Vancouver more often - we love you guys here!

  • We also need more BNL in LA. I liked it better in Michigan (just moved), especially in June at the show on the Talk to the Hand DVD.

  • That was a good show - I saw the TV special and LOVED it! These guys REALLY know how to put on a concert!
