I was in Bintulu in 2001, from Ohio and first overseas trip. I did have a friend waiting for me at the old Bintulu airport Comming in on a twin turbo prop plane with aboput 7 people on board and me the only caucasion, had me really tense. It was the end of May when I left. A week later I couldof went home with him to Miri for some celebration that is held every year at the long house, but I missed it. He was decendent from the Iban tribe. I fell in love with the place and the people!
Nowadays, many of ibans people become a politicians, an engineer and even a professor. But we as the ibans didn't forget our roots, our heritage and our culture..
Come and visit sarawak to know our culture well...
I'm proud to be IBAN-Idup Iban!!..that is our culture BUT those are the days... ok... nowadays we don't do it because most of us is Christian... but we keep our culture & heritage alive so that easy for our next generation knows about their culture/heritage
Sure, we still do those 'stuff' :p. Most Ibans today are Christians, but we keep our tradition and culture alive... not because we still cling to our old ancestral religion, it's because we Ibans are proud of our heritage. We're also proud to share it with the world... don't take my word for it, come on over and visit us. You're guaranteed to have a good time.
But what about today? How can they continue that stuff? Is that part of a type of religion for your people? Is that religion gone now? Or do people still do that in the jungles?
