My best advice to black girls who have naturally long hair is to be at peace with all of the assumptions that people make about you when you have long hair. Whether if it is them thinking that you are half something else or even if the hair is real or not. Just be at peace with all of it. It's not that big of a deal. I think you might be overlooking the fact that under the umbrella of "African-American," there are a lot of different heritages and hair textures. Even if both of your parents identify as "African-American," that doesn't answer the question of what's in your heritage.
For example, an African-American woman with more Indian in her heritage might have an easier time growing her hair texture than an African-American woman with less...We can all grow hair, but for some of us it is easier or harder

Someone might be "predominantly black," but most of us are mixed with something. Some of us have more Indian, some of have more Asian, some of us have more African, some of us have more Hispanic, some of us have more Caucasian...We all have different textures of "black hair" because our varied genetic composition contributes a lot to our hair textures.

My best advice to black girls who have naturally long hair is to be at peace with all of the assumptions that people make about you when you have long hair. Whether if it is them thinking that you are half something else or even if the hair is real or not. Just be at peace with all of it. It's not that big of a deal. I think. My mother keeps telling me we have Indian(from India, not American Indians)ancestors, but she has no real proof of that. No one is really sure. Every black girl in my school asks me, even if I've already answered them before, if I am mixed, or "are you sure you're black?"

I think you might be overlooking the fact that under the umbrella of "African-American," there are a lot of different heritages and hair textures. Even if both of your parents identify as "African-American," that doesn't answer the question of what's in your heritage.
For example, an African-American woman with more Indian in her heritage might have an easier time growing her hair texture than an African-American woman with less...We can all grow hair, but for some of us it is easier or harder

No offense but 100% Africans do not have a curl pattern like yours. Most Black Americans are mixed up with all kind of shit. Sometimes as a result of loving relationships, sometimes because of rape during slavery, which was VERY prevalent...sadly. I have hair like yours..and two black parents. I have come to accept that there is probably something other than black in my bloodline.

@naruhinaaaf i always thought ethopians are mixed with arab since they were colonized by the arabs long ago. They appear the most bir-racial than other africans. I know you can have silky curly hair without being mixed but or fair skin but even they are not all 100% african.

@naruhinaaaf lol...Wow...There are so many people of pure African decent. You don't have to be from some remote place in Africa. There are also many Africans in North America & I am not referring to African Americans(whose ancestors are from Africa but are most likely mixed somewhere down the line). I am African and live in North America & No, I am not the only one..lol..(It's called migration). There's nothing wrong with being pure African (We don't climb trees/have the worst possible hair)

@EsperTinaVI: Yes; not bad hair. There is no such thing as bad hair. Afro hair is due to the sun. To protect us from the harsh sun as well has cool us down.We also can't get lice because of our curliness and oil products. We don't need to wash our everyday because it doesn't get dirty as fast like straighter hair. Our is fragile and brittle most likely if it's not taken care of well. Our is like that of wool fragile but soft. So i feel your statement is illogcal. Each hair type has it's flaws.

im mixed and my hair isnt that perfect. i got a brazilian treatment at the beginning of the year and my hair was getting longer but it was falling out so i was losing volume. i feel like it doesn't matter what race you are whatever chemicals like perms and relaxers you put in it may damage your hair badly.

LOL, lets just keep it real: most Black people in America are going to have some other race show up in their bloodline..which doesn't preclude them from being "Black". But, long straight hair is not endemic to our Black African origins.
So, despite what vitamin or product u use, if ure not genetically predisposed then ure hair wont be long. Also, long hair isn't achievement-just anther part of who u are.

@2slick2stick A woman with curly hair (my mom) lol and I also read it online after she told me, it's because it has an ingredient in it that can cause our hair to be dryer than normal, the chemical strips us of our natural oils . So it's better to just use conditioner alone for those who have curly .

....but bcos u guys both have straightened ur hair here it looks like a weave.
when u have ur natural hair texture it looks like real hair bcos obviously black people do not have long straight hair naturally.
plus this long straight weave look is so common very un-unique looking most every bw wants this look, it makes bw look like cloned eurocentric wanabes.

Everyone has a non-black ancestors. But these girls are PREDOMINANTLY black. In my opinion a non-mixed person is someone who is predominantly black or white, or whatever, eve if they are 1/4 black or white. My great grandfather is white but I am Predominantly black. Im black.

lol alot of black girls in majority ask that question because they tend to not believe that black girls can grow there hair to that extent but the problem is we over stress our hair and we over do it and our hair doesnt like that tension so it back fires on us lol but we just need to cater to our hair and it will do us justice lol:)

The problem is....The insecure DARK SKIN, NAPPY HEADED, BALD HEADED black women that watch these videos always assume a female that is- ONE shade lighter than Wesley Snipes ; Past Earlobe Length Hair ; Looser Curls than Steal Wool – is somehow mixed. Until I started coming on you tube I didn’t know this mind set was that common. It's ridiculous.

@punaize2 I don't know if you realize this, but most African-Americans are mixed somewhere down the line. Most of us are not true African. Someone might be "predominantly black," but most of us are mixed with something. Some of us have more Indian, some of have more Asian, some of us have more African, some of us have more Hispanic, some of us have more Caucasian...We all have different textures of "black hair" because our varied genetic composition contributes a lot to our hair textures.

I am glad that you ladies "cleared" the misconception that black women cant grow their hair....some prefer not to have long hair, some prefer to perm their hair, some prefer extensions.....no different than any other race....KUDOS and keep up the good work.
