a definition of a different species is if two closely related animals mate together and produce offspring who are fertile they are same species so if recent claims that all none africans have a 1 to 4 percent thal dna. first gen 50/50 second 75/25 then 87.5/12.5 . 93.750/6.250. 96.875/3.125 so if the current data is correct all none afros are only a few generations away
from being a thal so we must of shagged quite a few thal women with beer goggles on lol
@wulf659 We don't have any neanderthal mitochondrial DNA. All of the neanderthal DNA that we have came from males. They were the ones messing with H. sapiens women.
Also, that definition of species is not often applied to plants or microbes. Red wolves came from wolf-coyote interbreeding. Should wolves and coyotes be the same species? Leopards and Jaguars can reproduce. Not only are their offspring fertile, the offspring are fertile with lions. Are leopards, jaguars, and lions the same species?
could u imagine western europe 200,000 kya. Lions, caribou, elephants, horses, hyenas, rhinos, large deer, and wisent all coexisting in the rugged temperate to sub-arctic climate of old europe. It must have been a surreal experience.
Neanderthal life was driven by instinct and superstition and it tended to be short. Neanderthals lived for several hundred-thousand years beside animals that our kind drove to extinction in forty-thousand years. This implies neanderthal was a fair hunter at best, with only crude technology at hand. They also had low birth rates, and they ate each other more frequently than our ancestors did in the late paleolithic.
Both Neanderthal AND CroMagnon were Giants! This film is very misleading. Also, how stupid seeing these people wear caveman clothes. Who do you think built Malta's ancient temples? The last time a land bridge existed to Malta from Sicily was 10,000 BC. So when you think about that it only means one thing. If Neanderthal was doing all the dieing then CroMagnon was doing all the building.
The fundamental definition of what constitutes a species is that two members of that species can mate and produce fertile offspring. For example, a lion and tiger can mate and birth a liger, but ligers are sterile. Same story with horses and donkeys--the product is sterile.so if non africans are part neanderthal at one point there would of been 50/50 hybrids so where we different species?
@bauhbjingles is ok 'cause one thing is to develop small adaptations within the same specie like different color of skin (melanine adapted for climate) variety of features for eyes, noses, hair, high, weight, etc ... and another thing is to be different in main biological things like brain size and function, the proportion, pieces and structure of skeleton, etc. Neanderthal is different to modern human in these important things... What we call race is just adaptation within the same specie...
A quick glance at Wikipedia will tell you that: "genetic evidence suggests interbreeding took place with anatomically modern humans between roughly 80,000 and 50,000 years ago in the Middle East, resulting in 1–4% of the genome of people from Eurasia having been contributed by Neanderthals."
@Jen5en yes should be totally possible that females of both sides could have hybrid babies, but must had been very difficult and dangerous for them to deliver, because the head of neanderthal babies were not match for women cavity, isn't?... should be very chalenging, i don't know, is a first glance that came to my mind ... I will check more in google...
I think they needed to do a better job anatomically and characteristically modeling the neanderthals. They're playing up the popular vision of the caveman way too much.
@GodOfTheInternets Anatomically modern humans DID interbreed with neanderthals. Every non-african human being has neanderthal ancestry. The ancestors of various peoples, including melanesians and aboriginal australians, interbred with the more robust asiatic relative of neanderthals, the Denisova hominid. There's even some speculation that the ancestors of the australian aborigines interbred with late javan H. erectus.
@loch70 That's what they thought a couple years ago, because they were testing mtDNA, which is passed down only from the mother. More recently, they've gotten access to nuclear DNA, which has been used to determine that we did in fact interbreed. Apparently only their males bred with us. By the way, your english is better than many native speakers on youtube. It's not perfect, but it's easily readable.
@ControltheDistance Thank you regarding my english. If Neanderthal males could bred with homosapien females am 100% sure you are correct in your theory. =)
@ControltheDistance yes they interbred but genetic variance among all humans is extremely small with only superficial differences, including languages. All humans are like 99.9999999999999% the same, even closer together than say two chimps from the same forest.
i dont like the physical portrayal of these the humans and neanderthals the humans are depicted with face paintings and have a striking resemblance to barbarian hordes encountered by the early Roman republic around 500bc...but this is 35,000 bc! and the neanderthals looked a little more human like than they are portrayed here, if you google image "neanderthal child" youll see a picture of a reconstructed beautiful little girl around 9 years old who looks almost identical to a human girl her age.
@markgfly When they said that "it had been known to humans", they meant Homo erectus (which was, by the way, both significantly more primitive than neanderthals and possibly capable of interbreeding with AMHs). Neanderthals were definitely human, and everyone who isn't from Africa has neanderthal ancestry. The only thing absolutely known to set us apart is morphology, and that is only minorly different in some regions and periods of time.
@markgfly That's like saying that because polynesians have a jawbone unlike any other humans, they aren't human. Or that Europeans have more angular eye sockets than other humans, so they aren't human. Or that People with an IQ below 100 are below the normal human intelligence, so they aren't humans. It just isn't correct. The fact that we were capable of interbreeding demonstrates their humanity. Also, I notice your racism towards white people. For your information, everybody except sub-saharan
@markgfly africans has neanderthal ancestry. So, to put it bluntly, the chances are that you're part neanderthal. I see that you're from the US, and so (even if you're sub-saharan african) unless you only recently came here, you're almost certainly part eurasian. I can say with a fair amount of confidence that you are descended from neanderthals.
The tone is a little disparaging. These were a people, as well as being a species of animal. There's also good evidence to show that homo neanderthalensis cared for their old and sick quite well.
THIS IS MYYYYYYYYYY HISTORY, Shanadar and Hazarmerd caves lie 2 miles from my HOMETOWN! May your London be Islamabad and get called "Pakistan". IRAQ=Deserts, Neandarthals did NOT live in Deserts since Deserts have NO CAVES. FUCK IRAQ and you! for mentioning OUR KURDISTAN as a part of it.
I don't know when this was filmed, but more recent evidence really makes this out of date. I think you might realize if temps were -25 below 0, you couldn't survive in those loosely draped clothing. They even show a needle, which Neanderthals did have. You'd think they'd make better use of them. When they showed them running through the forest, I kept expecting the raggedy bits of their clothes to get hung up on the bushes. Also, you can't soften hides just by scaping
@cdechterling im not sure but thought of ur question when i read ur comment. i think they used to run and hunt naked (they still have tough skin) and use their clothes before they sleep when it gets really cold :)
@jojokintel I don't think paying taxes would have made their lives any less "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short". They would all just be 20% more poor or whatever the tax rate would be.
@jojokintel Oh, so you're saying the only thing that prevents people from going around killing people or stealing is being afraid of the police? Christians make this same arguement with reguard to their god. Without god, they say anything is permissable. However the opposite is true. If you beleive god is on your side anything is permissable.
