i am trying to bond a female fresh off her litter and a 3 year iold rabbit. what do i do. the bunny still thinks she has her babies and is being aggresive, i mean they used to get along but when she got pregnant everything went upside down
I have one male rabbit and have adopted another rabbit who is older then my previous Rabbit. Both are male and have been altered and the new rabbit is very shy that he just runs away from my other one. He doesnt want to interact or do anything. Should I continue Bunny Dates or just let the new Rabbit be on his own?

Thank You so much for this video! I have 4 rabbits, both boys are neutered, both girls are spayed, I have one male and female pair and have been trying so hard to bond the other 2! Thanks for recommending the bath tub, I will try that as the next bonding area. :)
Hi awesome video...now I need your help! haha... its way to much to write on here.. could I have your email if you still have one? thanks so much! you can send it to me in a msg i believe on my account probably...I hope! haha .. if not let me know...and ill write it on here. thanks so much.
Great Video! Can you put an altered male with an un-spayed female? We have 17 rescue rabbits of all ages and sizes, and getting so many of them neutered makes it difficult to get the girls spayed: as they are much more expensive. Is there any preparation prior to the first bunny date that needs to be done?
i have a 10 month old male (castrated) male rabbit and i went to the rescue center and there was a 1 year old female they are both about the same size do you think this would be okay to introduce them to each other or do i need to get a young bunnie from a pet store or breeder? (i would rather give a secound chance to a bunny) thanks great video !
I have a spayed five month old girl and a soon to be neutered 1/2 yr old male. She is territorial of her hutch but ok with her bedroom. Will I need to get them a totally new hutch or two and if there is two will he learn to stay out of hers. ?
I have two male rabbits, one that is a little over a year old, and one that is about 4 months. Both are altered. They seemed to be getting along well together, but now are fighting and biting each other (the 4 month old is doing a lot more biting than the older one). I'll admit, I've never done this before, and I'm a bit in the dark. Am I fighting a losing battle, or is it worth continuing?
Thank you for this very informative video! I have read many of the tips the American House Rabbit Society has posted but there is no substitute for seeing exactly how it should be done! Thanks!
Can i just point out to people commenting on here not to seperate buns if they are not fighting, everytime you do this you are taking a step back, ive bonded lots including a group of four. You need to set aside a week to be able to be aroud to supervise your buns.
I have to have my b/f there because i think i am pushing them away when they may even want to sniff, therefore maybe doing more harm than good. I guess i just don't feel comfortable with what "acceptable" bad behavior is, what's normal, etc. What is normal in a long bonding process, what should i be sure to NOT do? There isn't a ton out there on difficult rabbits. They are both wonderful, don't get me wrong, but it would be better for everyone if they could just get along... someday. Thank U!
I'm (attempting) to bond my two neutered male rabbits. One is about two and the other is a rescue bun (two or older???). I've moved and thought this would be a great opportunity. Now they have a date approx. every other day (this is when i have help). They are both vicious. I know it can be done, but it is so difficult to remain positive. I hate when they have a bad date ( I try to always end on a good note tho) or if they do bite.
I'm trying to bond my rabbits as well for the past 1 month. They are also just circling and biting each other. Do you really think you can bind any pair of bunnies even though they seem so aggressive toward each other?
if he older rabbit grunts, that means that its getting territorial. you have to wait until both rabbits are about the same size or full grown (for the baby). the older rabbit could do serious damage. grunting is a warning that the rabbit does not like the baby.
I have a very docile, 1 1/2 year old unaltered male lionhead, and I'm going to try bonding him to a 3 year old spayed female lionhead. If bonding goes really well on the first day, can you just let them co-exist supervised or should you still limit them to the dates for awhile?
Awesome video! I have a single altered male that I've had for nearly two years (it's hard to believe) who is almost about 2 1/2 and I'm goging to start bonding him with my former foster pair, two, 1 year old altered females. I was looking to see if there were any vids from other people willing to conquer the trio and I found your bonding video. It's nice to know that someone knows what they're talking about. Are you a member of rabbitsonline? You would probably like it there.
I have a female, non-spayed female rabbit. About 3 years old. I'm scared to get her fixed as I've heard that bunnies don't respond well under anesthesia. Is that true?
Also, If i got a male bunny to go with my female bunny, could I just get him neutered and leave my female bunny non-spayed?
I've been considering getting the spaying for my female bunny, since it's supposed to reduce ovarian cancer-- but I am so scared of her dying while getting spayed!
All rabbits run the risk of not responding well to anesthesia... and yes, the older less healthy rabbits have a hard time of recovering. Some of the rabbits I rescued were not healthy and were over 5 years old when they were altered... one of which had a VERY hard time recovering and had to be force fed a pellet mash (called critical care). If your vet is rabbit savvy, they should be able to help you with this.
Also, just getting your male rabbit neutered will not help anything. GRanted they won't be able to reproduce, but female rabbits are more aggressive than males when they are not spayed. Both female and male rabbits can develop reproductive cancer if not altered. I recommend doing them both.. especially if you plan on bonding them. Not only will it keep them healthier, but they will live longer and have a better chance of bonding. Make sure they are very healthy before doing any altering.
Great instructional. Right now we're trying to integrate a recent female half-lop (half as in one ear dropped) with four bonded buns that have been together for five years. Luckily one of the bonded buns is a boy; even luckier, he's passive. Needless to say we're starting with him. Still, it ain't easy (she's a firecracker). We're gettin' there, though. Your video inspires us to keep trying.
Hi siruius. your vid is great!! :D but one thing. i have 2 UNaltered females. One is a Holland lop 1 year old. shes quite large too. Very dominant and protective of territory.
Then theres my little dwarf lop mix. shes pretty small and helpless, only about 2 mos. old. I wanted to bond them so bad, that when i put them together they fought and i broke them up but little bun got a large cut. do you have any suggestions on how i can try to re-introduce them AFTER C.C. the little bun is healed?
I STRONGLY recommend not bonding your rabbits until they are both altered. Bonded pairs work best between altered rabbits of the opposite sex. I've had rabbits for 20 years and have never had a successful bond between rabbits of the same sex. This does not mean it can't be done, but I really don't feel it can be done if they aren't altered. Watch CC's cut to ensure it doesn't get infected. If the cut hasn't closed in a few days or if a lump develops, take CC into the vet IMMEDIATELY.
You need to stop allowing them to be by each other until BOTH of them are neutered. If they are fighting like this, they will not be able to be placed near each other until they are neutered. Even once they are neutered they still may not be able to be around each other - it depends on the rabbits. Do not force this or you could lose one or both rabbits. Neuter them, give them a month or two to get the hormones flushed out of their system, then gradually perform bunny dates.
seems like he will attack simba, simba is almost two now ( june 18 ) and is Not nueterd timone is turning 1 ( july 19 ) but its hard because i feel as if i cant play with them becuase they fight so i have too play with one at a time. i have homeowrk so its hard.. i was wondering if u can give me ALOT of tips :) Thanks alot!
Hello! Rabbits of the same sex are VERY hard to bond together - especially if they are not altered (neutered/spayed). It would be a miracle if your males bonded together without BOTH of them being neutered - and even if they are neutered it may be a miracle to get them together as well. I have 2 altered males that I keep separated - one of them got out and a fight broke out and both were barely alive. Before you let them out together, I would recommend them both being altered.
Yeah, there were getting along for a pretty long time they would just sniff and hop away and simba somtimes mounted. But then Timone Sprayed simba once. I didnt let them out together for a while.. a few weeks later i let them out again but they were across the yard from eachother timone hopped too simba and seemed like he was gona daart at him i picked him up and he tried too get abck at simba idk why but do you know any ways too try too bond them?

Very good video! I bought my Dutch to bond with a Holland but the Holland died while getting neutered. :( A few months later I noticed a little white rabbit in my neighbor's yard. I lured him in with banana's and got him neutered. He then grew into an enormous Californian. The Cali and Dutch bonded really quickly. The shelter where I got my Dutch called me and told me about a bun they have. Have you ever bonded a pair to another? I'm trying to find out if it's a good idea or even possible.
I have heard and seen trios... so it is definitely possible. However, it takes immense time (most of the time) and will depend on the dominant bun in your current pair. I am in the process of trying to bond our pair with a female mini lop, but my female Holland isn't having it. She is VERY protective of her man. Sometimes, if you have a very protective bun, a trio bunny date can end up breaking up the current pair.. territorial females will smell the other rabbit and feel cheated.
I didn't get that one, but they called me again. I'm seriously considering it. The rabbit they are offering is a flemish giant. I'm going to take mine to meet her to see if they hit it off.
There are many different ways to bond your rabbits. If this traditional date does not work, I have other ideas for you. Sometimes scary or traumatic events force rabbits to bond. This sounds harsh, but is not. This method involves the rabbits being placed in an open box in the back seat of a car with someone driving and someone sitting in back with them. Make quick turns and stops so the rabbits run into one another. Sometimes this can help them bond if normal dates are not enough.

How should I introduce them to each other? The oldest rabbit grunts at the baby.

You must spay the female before you try to bond them. After she has been allowed a month to recover, then do bunny dates like I have shown.

If your male is unaltered, it will probably be bothering the female constantly. You know how rabbits are .. :)
Anyway, that can be quite stressful for the female.
Imo I wouldn't separate them again at all after the bonding process has started (unless maybe they really start hurting each other badly).
In my experience each NEW meeting of the two means new stress for them, so it may be better to let them "fight it out" in just one long session.
