Biggest problem I've had with WW: Shouldn't she have a Greek accent? I would assume she would have spoken ancient Greek, or at the very least a native contemporary Greek speaker? Linda Carter was awesome but the whole language issue always bothered me.
Too many fans just want their favourite looking actress playing the part NOT someone that believes in the part and is convincing
Lynda Carter did her homework on the character and actually like the comic books where as some of the fans picks just want the ego boost and a $14 million contract
I think Jennifer Oconnell (think that's right, she was in The Day The Earth Stood Still) would make a great Wonder Woman, but she would need to put on a few pounds, bulk up a bit. Just sayin'
@HaphazardStuff Question for you? Do you know if that is Gary Busey in the Hospital Scene pushing the gurney at 9:17, the blond guy? I think it's Gary Busey, I have all the WW DVD's but there is no credit to him.
I Disagree, The Wonder Woman/Stella Stevens Cat Fight totally made this "Movie of the Week" story..............The Wonder Woman Series would have lasted much longer with girl on girl fights.............Dynasty proved that.
If you listen to the commentary, Lynda Carter asked Aaron Spelling why is she engaging in a fight with the Nazi woman when she just finished tossng some men around — Aaron Spelling responded: 'Cause then there wouldn't be fight.' It was the first time we saw two women do a full-on physical fight on American TV.
I liked the 1st season the best, i didn't like the 2nd and 3rd , i liked in the 1st season cause it had wonderwoman and some romactic tention with the general steve
Sure lynda carter did a fantastic job when she was wonder woman however, it is time to make a new definative wonder woman. Just as christian bale was made as a new definative batman today. I bet that chances are that despite the new nbc wonder woman show being cancelled before it started there may be a redeming possibility that with with gary oldman's statement of adrianna paliki to make an apperance as wonder woman in the dark knight rises it may just bring life back to wonder woman
I loved this show when it took place in the 1940's but when they moved it to the 1970's it lost a lot.
Still, Lynda Carter made it worth watching. She had (still has) brains, beauty and the ability to draw you in and make you forget it's just a TV show.
I feel the need to correct you on one salient point. ABC did pick up the WONDER WOMAN series featuring Crosby, it was the producers who changed their minds after the fact and decided to go with a more traditional approach, figuring that audiences would be more willing to tune in if Wonder Woman looked the way fans expected her to and had the more familiar backstory from the comics. And considering the show lasted for three seasons it was probably a good call.
I really do like this vid my friend. I think its one of your best work. Being a huge 1970's fan of pop culture and various TV shows, this fits the bill nicely. I learned some interesting facts from your commentary. Looking forward to more new videos from you in the near future. Bobby------
Along with George Reeves as Superman, Lynda Carter represents the most perfect comic-to-film casting ever.
The Nazis are portrayed for overly comedic effect in the pilot but this is toned down a lot in the first season, which of course, is the best season.
The most crucial part of Lynda's portrayal is in the innocence of the character but a movie done today would possess none of that, as seen in the modern comics, and so any attempt to do the character now would be doomed for failure.
@dianaAthemiscyra Superman was portrayed by both George Reeves and Christopher Reeve. George Reeve played Superman in "Superman and the Mole-Men" and the TV show "Adventures of Superman".
I bet the reason why there hasn't been more Wonder Woman around, is because they can't find someone equal to Lynda Carter. I LOVED Wonder Woman when I was a kid and often compared her to my Mom lol. I think we all did at some point, but my Mom did have long black hair, and she would sometimes do the spin lol. It's not going to be easy to find a new Wonder Woman. They lucked out with Brandon Routh as Superman. Wonder Woman will be difficult. Thanks for posting this!
Oh wow, I just realized this is your own little documentary series. Kudos, I've enjoyed reading about and watching them all. From seeing "Superman" on the big screen at age 10 with my mom to my long-time infatuation with Lynda Carter and the "Wonder Woman" series as a kid (are you GenX too?). Nice, straight-forward narration with a an intimate, personal tone too!
you have some very interesting points indeed, i agree that the pilot was a bit silly at first and for that matter so was season 1, it was only until seasons 2 and 3 i thought the writers really got there heads screwed on, but regardless of what it was like in the beginning i always have and always have and always will love WONDER WOMAN and the woman that made it all possible, our lynda carter!
In the episode "Fausta, the Nazi Wonder Woman", Steve Trevor does try to rescue Wonder Woman. Nazi agents capture Wonder Woman and, after making her helpless by removing her magic belt, take her to Germany for interrigation. Steve Trevor, against General Balnkenship's orders, goes to Germany to free Wonder Woman and ends up being captured himself. To add to Trevor's humilaition, Wonder Woman had already regained her powers and escaped and now must return to Germany and rescue him.
Katharine McPhee, on of the American Idol runner-ups is a dead ringer in my opinion and both she and Linda Carter were singers, firstly....I've always said Beyonce should do a video wearing that infamous suit but Katharine is a dead ringer for Linda Carter, would like just like the old image of Lynda, the comic book, and she definitely would look nice in that suit, as well!
Lynda played it so great because as a former model in her first acting role, she had no qualms about wearing the skimpy outfit, whereas some other actresses might have balked about playing a "silly comic-book character"
Here's what i would like to see. Lynda Carter as the queen, sigourney weaver as her mother, and an unknown to play wonder woman. she needs to be an ass kicking wonder woman, but, but still maintains her sweetness. megan fox as gorgeous as she is, is no LYNDA CARTER
I dont thing Megan Fox can fill Lynda Carters boots on this one. We need somebody thats more strong and has a better presence but yet can stay true to the part.
Now, I have to say I agree with mostly everything you said, but... to say that we became "infatuated" with Lynda Carter... that's the understatement of the year - we literally ADORED and WORSHIPPED her... at least I did... eh eh.
Also, Megan Fox would be a good choice for a new Wonder Woman movie. She certainly looks the part, although she is still a bit too young for it in my opinion... but anyhow, she's already said she doesn't want to.
Considering she could be responsible for my livelong love of brunettes perhaps your right...infatuated might not be a strong enough word. :o)
I had heard Megan Gale is rumored to play WW. I don't know anything about her, other than she's good looking. Not even sure she can act, but we'll see what happens.
It's funny how many people quibbles at the blond Cathy Lee playing WW in the first TV movie. Well, Steve Trevor was blond in the comics and they cast brunette Waggoner. Also, I can't believe they never had a Cheetah episode.
As for the idea of finally making a feature film, all casting suggestions have been wretched, with the exception of Catherine Zeta-Jones's name coming up about a decade ago. She might have worked. Perhaps an unknown actor (of Greek heritage).
Next up on the list CBS's Spider-Man? :) Great job Cappy...Wonder Woman was my favorite of the 70s live-action tv shows growing up, and they tided me over until the arrival of 1978's Superman.
I agree theres no one that can fill Linda Carters shoes as Wonder Woman. I remember a few yeaars ago they talked about doing a Wonder Woman movie & casting Sandra Bullick as Wonder Woman....Thank God They didnt do that
I do remember the talk of Bullock being cast. I'm with you and glad it never happened. I recently been hearing the suggestion of Megan Fox, and it just seems like it's only because she's the 'IT' girl of the moment. Maybe they'd be better off casting an unknown.
