have one bite you my female bit my thumb and tore my thumb nail off thoser dogs have amazing bite force for how small they are you can pick those dogs up by them biting on a toy

@934Johno - Dogs generally don't bite unless they are mistreated and abused or think they are higher up on the pack chain than you are. Both my westies have never bitten me. They are very very sweet. When you first bring them home, they have to get aclimated and they will find out where they fit into the pack order. They know I'm the alpha.

i would never abuse any dog i made the mistake of reaching into her cage i hade 2 a male and a female the male was passive but she was more agtressive and showed her teath alot especvially to him he dioed 2 yrs ago and shes still with us but i;ll never get another female ,his name wasw snoop and the best dog i ever had and miss him alot

I wasn't ensinuating that you abused dogs. I was just making a statement. I'm sorry for your lost. We have two female westies and they are both very adorable. The youngest one is 3 years old and she still acts like a little sweet baby. I guess the reason is that she knows she is last in the pack. She doesn't go or do anything with out our other westie, who is 4 years old. She was pretty fiesty when we first brought her home. You have to help them to figure out who the alpha dog is.

It depends on the individual dog and the fact that the Owner MUST be assertive.:)

I had a fabulous Female=Katie (16).

The last 5 years Sammy, then 3 stayed most of the year and they were great together.

Within one week of Katie dying in 2005 I got 4 Westies ( 2 Girls then (3) and a Boy=Max (4).....the girls have wonderfully loving natures and have been 2 permanent shadows since 2005!

All 4 are truly fantastic characters and Alice is the catalyst who keeps the whole "pack" together!:)

Sorry! The fourth dog was Sammy, who came to me for good!

They are now : Alice/Phoebe ( both 7)

Max (8) and Sammy now 12 years old...

@Isleofskye my westie Katie passed away on christmas day aged 14 it was always such a shock for people hearing she was called Katie. Lovely to come across someone else the same

Katie was the Female Family name Vikki.

My Mum was Catherine or Kitty or Katie and her Mum was Katie so it was an obvious name to call her!:)

I replaced her within 2 weeks with 4 Westies and I have still have all my fond memories of her ( my first dog ) but the pain and empty void was filled by attending to these four !:)

Good Luck and as you are a great Owner why not get another couple to save you being too depressed about it, especially in Winter when its miserable.
