Great stuff Rob I am a long suffering 40 year roll film user so PP work apart from a bit of dodging and spotting was as you know a bit limited (although IMO it forces you to get as much right in the camera as possible much more than digital units do) HDR is my next learning curve while I transition over to digital I have read a couple of John Freemans super books so your excellent videos are acting as a good backup to my learning so far
In the end, the 'optimal' tonemapped image did not play a part in the final image. Was that because once you had all three open in Photoshop you thought the 'vivid' version was a better base? Do you sometimes choose the 'optimal' version as the base?
I create an "optimal" tonemap, and while I'm at it, a "vivid" tonemap. When I layer on the Shadowmap (in Hard Light mode, around 30%), I compare the two, decide which is better, then throw out the one I don't want.
@Saurabhopithecus Thanks so much for the kind comment, and I'm happy that you found something worthwhile in the hour-long presentation. Let me know if I can help in any way.
A great set of tutorials that helped me a lot. Thanks!

Yes. And yes.
I create an "optimal" tonemap, and while I'm at it, a "vivid" tonemap. When I layer on the Shadowmap (in Hard Light mode, around 30%), I compare the two, decide which is better, then throw out the one I don't want.
Good catch!

Well done. Very informative - a different take on how to produce quality HDR and even experienced HDR photographers will find tidbits here.
