@123benthere that's because Obama cannot walk over his talk. There is no point building solar energy. It will just make someone rich. It's not like the money will go to your wallet? Government is corrupted because all of the career politician are good speakers and selfish without common sense. Think about all of the young stupid people will governor this country...
The human race needs to start lining deserts with solar panels, covering grasslands in wind turbines, and growing massive amounts of industrial hemp that can easily be made into fuel that can power automobiles (hemp only takes 6 months to grow). The only problem with this is that oil companies run the world and would hate to see that happen because there would be no profit for them...not to mention governments feed off the wealth of oil companies. What a fucked up world.
This is happening NOW! The 2008 oil price high was a warning now its going back to 140 even higher this time around look out for what's going to happen in Iran next year
Here is how you resolve the Crude OiL problem. Price per barrel $82.00. One Barrel = 32 gallons / gasoline. 32 gallons x $3.78 = $120.96. Take $120.96 - $82.00. Oil company is profiting $38.96 per barrel.
@tnguyen318 using the $3.78 doesnt take into account the transportation costs, whether they are shipped from abroad or domestically, and the tax each respective state places on companies which can be excise taxes, severence taxes, or royalties. Besides, each state has different prices for gas; theres roughly a $0.20 difference between the gas prices in Los Angeles, CA and Dallas, TX. your equation would be applicable if taxes didnt exist and foreign oil magically flew 5000 miles
we don't even need foreign oil America has more oil than a couple other contents put together the rocky mountains contain over 500 trillion barrels of untapped crude one of Alaska's islands has more oil than Saudi Arabia so what the hell are we buying foreign oil for its stupid no its insane America can pay of a very large amount of our debt by drilling and selling oil by the millions of barrels a day it would also lower the cost of oil too
@nimmnoss woww, either youre a troll or highly misinformed.. U.S has already peaked and there is no coming back.. there is absolutely no way we can get close to our production levels in the 70s.. deep sea drilling, tar sands etc. have a low net energy return, there is no real reason to bother with aggressive exploration and production in the u.s.
@gergar121 In 2008, the US Geological Survey estimates there are about 90 billion barrels of oil in the Arctic, much less than all the Middle East put together. That oil is much more expensive to produce than what it costs in Iraq. Deep water oil rig cost about $500 million each in the Gulf of Mexico, and Arctic oil rigs probably will cost more than that. North Pole petroleum is not going to perpetuate the suburban lifestyle.
the nations will be ruin and hand all their power to the beast. The beast will rule earth. Only Jesus christ can destroy the beast and his 200 million army and all earths weapons.
MartynRobin, I think you nailed it. Bush keeps saying that history may judge him differently. As peak oil begins to dawn on the minds of the American people, he's probably right.
I think we need various forms of alternative energies in a relatively short period. Also because I feel it would be wise to be doing "beta testing" on a somewhat larger scale than done heretofor. I think it would be great to see large scale programs such as solar energy cities and geo thermal vents, etc, whatever works best for a certain geographical area. At least electricity could be shared over distances. That's a start.
I was trying to peruse Craigs List but this peak oil has got me. It's dawning on me I am going to have to turn into some sort of energy hippie. I keep thinking of how to get into the future so researching energy changes has been good. Least it is helping a little in the peace and mind dept. It will be fascinating in the least.
the reality is all industialised countries need oil n if they can't buy it at a reasonable cost to them they will take it by any means at their disposal usa will be the first cause they have the military power but in reality most other countries would do the same if they had the same power
@polygamous1 Yup you're rigth, I 'french and when I hear people criticizing the USA because they invaded Irak for oil it pisses me off France would do the same if it could!
@Brentweatherman china? u really think china's got the military capability to invade brazil? No way first of all chinese are peaceful by nature n there is No way they got the ability to invade any country except a country next door to them if anyone is stopping america from taking over the world is Russia its Great military n their exceptionally brave n skilfull troops its only 130M Russians facing over a Billion usa/nato/eec/japan/israel n they can keep them in check super Russian troops
@Brentweatherman yeah but think about it how much oil will you consumme during the invasion war compared to the out put of exploiting the conquered ressources?
you get 1.4 volt AA rechargable battery's from solar cell garden lights you can get for a few dollars. A recharable battery that can work in Radio's and flashlights with its own solar recharger. It works great and i got a pack of 20 solar lights under EMP protection
This is being treated like a crisis that is unstoppable and none of us have any control over it. Near the end of this video, just look at all those Americans. First of all, the oil will get used up even faster if they all have these ridiculous SUV tanks, but seriously, look at 9:30, they look like sheep following the herd. What do all those masses of rats seriously need to do that is so important? It's as if they are just driving just for the sake of creating this problem in the first place.
@MrROTD you need oil (as energy and raw material) to build solar pannels
+hydrogen is an enrgy carrier not an energy souce this means it relies on a primary enrgy souce such a s coal, oil or gas( electrecity isn't an energy source!)
@PersonOfBook switching to a new energy source overnight could cost trillions of dollars for many oil dependant countries. but you got a good idea. or maybe....solar power.
@frozenhiphop09 a 1991 study shows it would take 20 years and 70% off all enrgy available to replace and meet the energy need of the USA with renewables. Meaning for 20 years only 30% enrgy is lft for transport, lighting, food production and such!
So imagige what it would take for TODAY'S energy needs!
it's funny when people say gas prices are high. historically, yes they are high. but to use an example...gas @ $3.20/gallon = around 20 cents/cup. that means that for 20 cents you can drive a car with 5 adults in it about 2 miles. thats essentially free energy.
...what? u can drive two miles, which btw wont get me to and from my grocery store, for twenty cents. that's essentially free... nope that would be twenty cents, not 0, there is in fact a differance... say of about twenty cents
i'm simply making a point that you can buy a cup of gas for 20 cents and drive a 2,000 lb car with 5 people 2 miles....an energy source THAT dense that can be bought for current prices is insane........but thanks for the really thoughtful response. you really should catch up on world events and do a little reading. i bet you start your car and leave it running for 10 minutes to warm it up in the morning, too...
"Controls the oil" raises the question, who controls oil production? Many have controls over refining and the distribution of end products, but they lack control over the production, particularly in the Middle East. The conspiracy movement talks about a New World Order. I ask the question, who are the powers to be, who want to regulate the vital resources of the planet as a singular, global political body? As I said before. I want to reflect with some more time on it!!
..oil companies are nothing more than liers who will do what ever it takes to continue to line thier pockets with the revenue oil brings,. its a whole scam and you people and the media need to wake up to this fact. i would personaly put a bullet in each and every 1 of these ceos heads if i had the chance.
oil companies are the reason gas prices are so gigh, they are a greedy cartel who manipulate production and supply and demand to raise oil prices, its all about profits and paying themselves multi million dollar pay rises, while the rest of us keep getting ripped off.
hahaha and ur guys are losing u fucking americans..... bush kissed our arab king for oil.... obama bows to our king for oil.... amercians are fighting the oil who are getting killed and blowed loooool
2.Tarriff imported goods, use tarriff revenue to fund government instead of income tax. Tarriffs create a protective environment for local industry, and reduce the transport of goods such long distances.
3. Begin reducing the impact of the peak oil problem by producing electric energy from sunlight. Use photovoltaic technology. Amend building regulations: Generally speaking, buildings must produce energy. All new buildings, including homes and businesses must comply with this new standard. This is just one of many strategies that will reduce the impact of a depleting oil source on our energy supply.
most experts say that we are either past world peak or at best 2 decades away from peak. were screwed, american pro-oilist will keep it null untill barrels are over 250per barrel.
we are living in the dark ages. watch the BBC documentary 'a farm for the future' to understand why.
pay particular attention to when they mention crop yields of permaculture farming (hint, they are high, especially when in the light of it's energy input which is close to 0). there is a possible future for humankind but it will require a massive cultural shift. the documentary is on google video in full. good luck
WHAT YOU IDIOTS DO NOT UNDERSTAND IS PATHETIC. There will be no fucking other resorce than oil. Here's a hint. The Middle East will be tapped out soon. Who has all the oil then? Think carefully, cause there is a country.
For all intense purposes, Russia is looking like it's below what it needs or previously produced. There was once more Oil Billionaires in Moscow than Texas, now Russia is trying to claim under UNCLOS parts of the Arctic so to exploit the possible oil there. Most of their old big wells are gone.
Like with OPEC, Russia etc., only the producers know really whats there (both actually and possibly), but there is no way institutions built on Oil Money are going to just say "we've run out now", not while there still is billions to be made. Problem is, until is actually happens, nobody will react or put in-place the technology needed to replace it.
Who the Fuck watches this Garbage!? i looked up dirty nigger and found this, maybe its case their so dirty they sell the oil that comes out their hair
They're already here, why else would the original code name for the invasion of Iraq have been Operation Iraqi Liberation. Guess what the first letters of those three words put together spells?!
It's impossible to say. OPEC is saying they have loads, but then they would. You wouldn't expect a dairy farmer to tell the supermarket he has no milk, but to invest in his farm anyway.
One thing is for sure, hydrocarbon energy is a finite resource. It takes millions of years and lots of different pressures and environmental factors for this substance to form, and we use literally tons of the stuff daily.
@solentgreen2020 yeah, sure, and we keep paying gigantic prices for this oil "shortage"! Oil is abiotic which means that it will be here forever! We will never run out of oil! The oil industries keep it secret but scientists at Harvard, German and Russian scientists did prove it! Oil will be here forever, sad but true!
@KimIsIll alas like most people you got it all wrong it's not about running out of oil! It's about droping production rates dues to running out of conventional low cost oil, in fact we'll neve run out of oi because the system will collapse long before that moment!
Correct. The global manufacturing industry now collects parts from different parts of the world which requires shipping halfway around the world. Now, oil, gas, coal prices are going to go through the roof and this system of doing things will be hard to rapidly reverse.
wow the US is one messed up place. they think they own the world and everything about it. they think they can do anything and get away with it. although admittedly they're the reason for many developments today, this most certainly includes one of the major contributors to the major global issues we're facing today. and hey guess what? they can't repair it. peachy.
theres a redneck at work that talks like u. getting out the guns and so on. people want to live like america and now we will find out that capitalism and science has its limits.
the number of people consuming at the same time that's the problem. Pick up some good science fiction anthologies, this stuff was predicted a while ago. The panacea of nuclear fusion hasn't sprung up, and even if a fully working fusion reactor could be designed tomorrow it still wouldn't solve the problem of having to completely overhaul the infrastructure to use it. All industrialized nations have the same problem.
You Yanks have no idea how good you have it. Here in the UK, oil cost FAR more than that before the oil crisis, and now it has skyrocketed again thanks to the economic crisis. At my local 'gas' station, prices are £3 (roughly $5) PER LITRE.

I'll answer, even though I don't believe the Iraq war was started because of oil, I do believe by not allowing the oil supply to be in the wrong hands has helped the US.
Well- I think we should SAVE it, for a time when we really really need it...and for things like plastics and other things we derive from oil, but as for fuel- we should drop oil all together and go with electricity from solar farms, wind farms, ocean current energy, ethanol from switch grass(not corn or other staple crops), clean coal & nuclear-waste would be a problem tho. We also need smart urban planning and more green buildings as well as electric cars like Aptera,Chevy Volt & Tesla Roadster
saudis are not stupid they have gas for another 3-400 years, now they are sloing down the production putting presurres on the other country make oil more expensive and getting more rich, its not all one sided
Wrong. Oil isn't just for energy idiot. Almost every single consumer item is made from plastics and their derivatives and hence oil. You carry your groceries home in plastic bags OIL. with food grown on mechanized farms OIL. From a huge supermarket to home in either your own car or public transportation OIL.
thers oil along the gulf and alska utah nevada and florida callifornia. But the stupid Democrats wont let us drill for it becuz they think itll hert the inviroment and destroy wildlife.
that wont really make any difference in the price of oil since that oil would only represent a very small percentage of oil suppy, and the enviromental cosequences would be dramatic
we are the greatest country in the world!!!!!! USA!!! USA!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!! we are the best and so we deserve every barrel of oil this world has to offer. damn chavez, the russians and iran. their oil belongs to us and us only. even though its theirs and they mined it, ITS OURS BITCH!
STFU. the united states of america is the best country in the world EVER! don't be jealous of our awesomeness. USA USA USA!!!! where you from? we'll nuc your ass
man have you been out of the US? you sound like a hick mate....get with it..there are many other ways of life out there. Best Country ? I don't know about that. Scandainavian countries sound a heck of a lot more appealing then the US and don;t forget Australia mate, we aren't full of AMerican BS yet...so it's still pretty good here.
In 31 years useage as above we dont even get to one trillion barrels! That doesnt count huge reserves yet to be discovered & new technologies to get more oil out of old wells. We have about 100 years of oil left, at current usage with current known reserves.
Wake up! U R being conditioned to accept higher oil prices, suckers!
ive been looking on you tubefinding out about alternative fuels e.g. hydrogen, electric, there is a lot of tech out there that "CAN" be manipulated and used in everyday use,if it is so bad with oil supplies worldwide then please someone explain why we are not already using new fuel systems?
I understand what you're trying to say and i'm all for trying to find other energy sources but are you willing to foot for the tremendous tax bill if we done this? Millions upon millions will lose their jobs if we switched because we are that dependent on oil. Oil affects us all, look outside your window our whole civilisation is built with it, the food we eat, almost everything in your house...
Millions will lose jobs at first but that will slowly balance out as we will need people to manufacture new enviro friendly goods cars persay and we will need people who will design them, put em together, manufacture parts, repair parts, work on new designs *Repeat basically*
The cost of living would be more drastic than it is today if we switched, we would have to pay enormous taxes to supplement the tax lost on the job losses... thats just a very small example of how oil rules the world. Again i hear what you're saying and it is something that is way out of our hands.
i think the primary issue that needs to be addressed in further detail, is what effects the rise of demand will have, particulary on north america. sure new reserves will come and go but it will only go to the highest bidder. im extemely curious about international relations between Brasil and China and what future implications that will have the United States.
Canada's Oil,Alberta's to be more specfic has one major problem it's trapped in sands meaning it will be VERY hard as well as energy consuming to extract the sand from the oil. It truly is not worth the trouble.
Sorry, just one more, the head of OPEC is on record (late last year) as stating "there is no shortage of oil" they just dont want to pump enough oil to keep the price down. That is just from OPEC! let alone all the other oil producing regions.
3) many countries still give huge $ inducments to oil companies to search/provide oil. If it was so "scarce" they would not have to provide such "encouragement" there are millions of (kilomters/miles) unexplored regions that are bursting with oil. There have been HUGE finds lately that have been very quietly reported. Also, cars become more fuel efficient-demand goes down as it did in early 80's. In a word, you r being hoodwinked.
Ok, what part do you want to start with first? I should have my own web page on this matter, but here goes, a real short version. If we only had (say) 50 years supply left, Russia/UK/USA etc would secure oil and we would right now be in severe rationing. 2)As known deposits become "dry" hard to get-technology advances makes recovery from these wells viable, thus giving us many millions more barrels from hereto dry wells. 3)
There is no oil crisis! there will not be for about 250-300 years. There is no oil crisis... by then we will have found other means for fuel...There is no oil crisis... You are being conditioned to accept higher prices at the pump and think, hey thats not too bad... There are so many holes in the "we are going to run out of oil EEEEKKK" mentality. I remember the same crap from the 70's. Does anyone remember reading those headlines?? I remember one that said 2015 will be it, EEKKK Run & Hide!
i wish i could believe you. unfortunately, when the corus of scientists and geologists gets louder and louder, people who actually know what they are talking about, you have to wonder.
Right on, Mettezz, It's hilarious how many people think that the oil industry has been promoting the idea of oil shortages. The reality, since M. King Hubbert presented his paper on peak oil in 1956, is that the oil industry has dismissed any notion of a shortage again and again. Yet people insist on saying its a propaganda campaign by the likes of Exxon and Opec. Ask a oil exec if you should buy a Prius or a Humvee. He'll tell you there's lots of oil go with the Hummer.
The United States hasn't built a power plant in over 30 years.
Thanks to our stupid politicians, we can't drill 14 miles off our coast while China and Venezuela do.
American coal reserves could supply the country for over 500 years.
ANWAR supposedly has as much oil as Saudi Arabia has,and other pipelines have actually helped the wildlife populations believe it or not. The heat from the pipes provides shelter and food for various animals.
britney is so so pretty!! haha, but does anyone else besides me realize that that one sound effect sounds like someone choking on a chicken bone? ha, when i realized that, i laughed so hard. lol. i still love you britney
Start increasing the cost of any products that are sent into the OPEC nations. I would start by doubling or even tripling the price of food or any water products that are destined for any oil producing nations. Two can play at this game.
This is a deliberate attempt by these fanatical Arab muslim nations to create disruption in the world. OPEC is doing for the Arabs what Hitler did for the Germans.
This will not be forgotten when you run out of oil.
I'd like to say that you American's (I'm assuming you're American) have forgotten that Saudi Arabia attacked you on 9-11 but that never really entered the American mindset to begin with. As G.W. Bush stated, "Saudi Arabia is a great ally in the war on terrorism." As Gore Vidal said, "This is the United States of Amnesia."
We need massive amounts of money invested in speeding up the technology to make alternatives like algae biofuels viable sooner. The problem is, we probably won't be motivated to do that until gas prices get ridiculously high. Algae has the potential to replace oil completely. We can slow the effects by driving more efficient vehicles. More electricity-dependent vehicles would be good because we have centuries of coal reserves left int he U.S. alone. Combine that with technological advances.
We as a society control anything that is becoming scarce and expensive. It is not a matter of the oil companies creating the crises...WE ARE! If you want to start to see some success get your asses out of your cars, start moving back into the cities and use public transportation.
This happened 30 years ago, no one listened and the odds are they won't listen again until you are forced to get out of your damn cars. IT'S SOCIETY STUPID!
Jimmy Carter listened, he set up a huge number of programs to wean American off of foreign oil. He has gone down in American opinion as the worst president in living memory. Who destroyed those programs? Ronald (Morning in America) Reagan, America's greatest president according to polls. All politicians since then have taken note of the average American's mentality. Don't ever, ever, ask an American to sacrifice for a future apparent good. You will go down in ignominy and defeat.
there is tons of oil left on the planet to last a thousand more years........the easy drills and pumps are gettin sucked up and now they need to spend and tap new....so they price us to death and make us feel guilty for their lack of technoligy with glogal warming guilt trip..so we use less while they raise prices to pay for their explortation..fukin idiots in this world have no clue
wake up fosil fuels are running out the world burns two and a half cubic miles of oil yearly 6 billon tons coal a year 98 trillon cubic feet of natural gas a year figure in growth and it will run out sooner than u think u cant find 1 single thing in your house that is not conected in some way to oil there is 5 hundred thousand products made from oil its dam scary that our whole way of life exist because of oil and what people do to people when there is chaos plant trees now buy smaller cars
your an asshole who probably believes also that we suffer from global warming...your an idiot......man has not warmed the earth in less than 200 years or has he used even 10 percent of the oil on this planet.....fuckin idiots
we need alternatives, like electricity..if electricity can power are cities, and our home's, whose to say it couldn't power our vehicles...
only thing is they havn't learned to harness that kind of energy to its full potential yet, I can see our world running on electric vehicle's, electric is a very reliable, and re-newable resource, and it isn't bad for the environment.
I swear we have the dumbest boobs running our country, if only they'd open there blind eyes to this world...
Those comments are retarded... alternatives like "electricity." A lot of "electricity" is created by coal and natural gas burning power plants dumb-dumb.
I reallize that they use "coal" and "natural gas" but there are many other alternative ways to create electric, I think electricity will be the fuel/energy of the future, and its the most re-newable, and we don't have to worry about global warming, because electric doesn't polute...BTW the Chinese are making the "Mega Dam" and there projecting to be able to output enough energy to power Bejing, no Coal burning, or natural gas burning....just pure water power...so do a little more research.......
When building hydroelectric plants, solar panels and wind energy farms the government seems to take maintenance over global impact. It costs much more to maintain these entities, but you can't put a price on our Earth.
Also people should start biking dammit! Why the fuck do they take the car a mile down the road to buy a packet of crisps? You can easily walk it in 10 mins.
why is it dumb, China and the USA both have a surplus of coal where coal plants are mining more coal than they actually need because of alternative "cleaner" energy sources. Coal is cheaper and perfected as coal was our first electricity source. So coal is an alternative to oil.
if the price of oil is going up instead finding some diffent. why dont we make factory to make monney instead and give out $100 notes to everyone, they we would have unlimted sorce of oil because even if the price goes everyone would have enough monney to buy it. even if its like million dollors are liter. i don't understand why people ant doing this now
I think he was making an attempt at sarcasm vis a vis the American Federal Reserve lowering interest rates and devaluing the American Dollar. the idea being a Weimar Germany type hyper-inflation, hilarious, just hilarious. Hey, Petroleum V. Nasby, don't give up you day job.
there is more fuckin oil under alberta canada than you can shake a tick at.....saudia rabia lol has trillions yet to be found...kuwait......iran,iraq,afganastan, colorado, the gulf of mexico......alaska.......south america...tell them to pay to raise it and stop rat holin the money
Alberta does not have "oil", it has tar sands which have oil in them. There are serious road blocks when trying to extract that oil. Realistically we will never get more than 1-2 million barrels a day from them.
The way I see it, the white took EVERYTHING that whole group as a people had. STFU and profit like the white man has always done off them and they're land. And the only reason you give for an alternative energy supply is to cut them off. WOW you really live in a bubble of ignorance. BTW the oil infests THEY"RE land. The whites are taking it and paying them a extremely small fraction of it's worth. STFU please
We HAVE the technology to increase gas mileage in all vehicles EXPONENTIALLY but there is collusion amongst the bretheren. Who is the bretheren you ask? YOU know who they are if you take a look around on different times and places on the planet. We want TOTAL CONTROL of the oil supplies first while all the while driving the price up. Adjusting the price up and up on consumers conditioning us for the eventual price by liters as in europe at $5/liter or equal to today $20/gallon.
I expect gas prices to rise here in the U.S.A. up to somewhere around $3.50-$4.00 this year...I think something that people don't also understand is that the higher the prices of gas goes up, the more expensive it costs for everyday items, such as food, clothes, are economy is driven by oil, so the higher the prices of gas goes up, the higher your cost of living goes up. I believe that in are near future we will have "oil wars", we are so dependent on foreign oil, and one day that will stop.
Tar sand exploration and refining in Canada is getting much more economical because of the $100/b price of oil. AND both Mexico and Canada share the top two positions of our oil importers. Not the Saudi's. So you actually have a great point.
"My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel," the Sheikh was fond of saying.
Damn. That shot of the oil refinery in the sand dunes is astonishing. Looks almost like like CGI. I'm not saying it is. I'm just saying it looks that out of place.
who needs oil? My car runs on diesel !

The human race needs to start lining deserts with solar panels, covering grasslands in wind turbines, and growing massive amounts of industrial hemp that can easily be made into fuel that can power automobiles (hemp only takes 6 months to grow). Here is how you resolve the Crude OiL problem. Price per barrel $82.00. One Barrel = 32 gallons / gasoline. 32 gallons x $3.78 = $120.96. Take $120.96 - $82.00. Oil company is profiting $38.96 per barrel.

It's as if they are just driving just for the sake of creating this problem in the first place.

y can't we just produce fuel from electricity, that would solve all the problems! There is enough electricity in the world!
PersonOfBook 1 year ago
@PersonOfBook yeh we could make hydrogen from solar power, I don't think Oil Companies like the Idea but I do.
MrROTD 1 year ago
@MrROTD you need oil (as energy and raw material) to build solar pannels
+hydrogen is an enrgy carrier not an energy souce this means it relies on a primary enrgy souce such a s coal, oil or gas( electrecity isn't an energy source!)
GeoffreyRahl 1 year ago
@PersonOfBook switching to a new energy source overnight could cost trillions of dollars for many oil dependant countries. but you got a good idea. or maybe....solar power.
frozenhiphop09 1 year ago
@frozenhiphop09 a 1991 study shows it would take 20 years and 70% off all enrgy available to replace and meet the energy need of the USA with renewables. Meaning for 20 years only 30% enrgy is lft for transport, lighting, food production and such!
So imagige what it would take for TODAY'S energy needs!

it's funny when people say gas prices are high. historically, yes they are high. but to use an example...gas @ $3.20/gallon = around 20 cents/cup. that means that for 20 cents you can drive a car with 5 adults in it about 2 miles. thats essentially free energy.
jimpagliaro 2 years ago
...what? u can drive two miles, which btw wont get me to and from my grocery store, for twenty cents. that's essentially free... nope that would be twenty cents, not 0, there is in fact a differance... say of about twenty cents
thejasonbeers 2 years ago
i'm simply making a point that you can buy a cup of gas for 20 cents and drive a 2,000 lb car with 5 people 2 miles....an energy source THAT dense that can be bought for current prices is insane........but thanks for the really thoughtful response. you really should catch up on world events and do a little reading. i bet you start your car and leave it running for 10 minutes to warm it up in the morning, too...

TYwokki 3 years ago
It is inevitable that it will run out, the question is when and what have we put as a society in place to replace it.
TYwokki 3 years ago
@solentgreen2020 yeah, sure, and we keep paying gigantic prices for this oil "shortage"! Oil is abiotic which means that it will be here forever! We will never run out of oil! Capitalism and science have limits, but it's
the number of people consuming at the same time that's the problem.

I understand what you're trying to say and i'm all for trying to find other energy sources but are you willing to foot for the tremendous tax bill if we done this? The cost of living would be more drastic than it is today if we switched, we would have to pay enormous taxes to supplement the tax lost on the job losses... thats just a very small example of how oil rules the world. Again i hear what you're saying and it is something that is way out of our hands.

Sorry, just one more, the head of OPEC is on record (late last year) as stating "there is no shortage of oil" they just dont want to pump enough oil to keep the price down. That is just from OPEC! let alone all the other oil producing regions.
amdluc 3 years ago
3) many countries still give huge $ inducments to oil companies to search/provide oil. If it was so "scarce" they would not have to provide such "encouragement" there are millions of (kilomters/miles) unexplored regions that are bursting with oil. There have been HUGE finds lately that have been very quietly reported. Also, cars become more fuel efficient-demand goes down as it did in early 80's. In a word, you r being hoodwinked.
amdluc 3 years ago
Ok, what part do you want to start with first? I should have my own web page on this matter, but here goes, a real short version. If we only had (say) 50 years supply left, Russia/UK/USA etc would secure oil and we would right now be in severe rationing. 2)As known deposits become "dry" hard to get-technology advances makes recovery from these wells viable, thus giving us many millions more barrels from hereto dry wells. 3)
amdluc 3 years ago
There is no oil crisis! there will not be for about 250-300 years. There is no oil crisis... by then we will have found other means for fuel...There is no oil crisis... Yet people insist on saying its a propaganda campaign by the likes of Exxon and Opec. Ask a oil exec if you should buy a Prius or a Humvee. He'll tell you there's lots of oil go with the Hummer.

Here is what you need to do.

I know! Our teachers take the car to lunch which is at a differenf school.. It takes me 3minutes to walk!

why is it dumb, China and the USA both have a surplus of coal where coal plants are mining more coal than they actually need because of alternative "cleaner" energy sources.

Not enough to meet demand.
10$ a gallon....
200 fucking dollars a barrel.
Deal with reality or reality will deal with you my friend.
You need to think in very complex terms to understand just how much of a disaster this really is.

Tar sand exploration and refining in Canada is getting much more economical because of the $100/b price of oil. AND both Mexico and Canada share the top two positions of our oil importers. Not the Saudi's. So you actually have a great point.

yeah, so you keep driving that gas guzzler. make me rich! lol, (i'm canadian), and btw, i am getting rich.

The mountain analogy is very appropriate. It is also very scary. The next decade will prove a interesting time to be alive.

Damn. That shot of the oil refinery in the sand dunes is astonishing. Looks almost like like CGI. I'm not saying it is. I'm just saying it looks that out of place.
