Your question: I am 5'11'' and 170 lbs. I am a sophomore in high school and run my forty in 4.74. My vertical is 36 inches and i bench press 195 lbs and squat 405 lbs and leg press 755 lbs. What football position is best for me?
Cornerbacks who don't have spectacular speed usually play zone coverage especially if they know the receiver is faster than them. So they'll play zone and seek help from one of the safeties.
what you gotta do on the field as a CB is smack the WR. bump and run whatever you wanna call it but you gatta smack that hoe. get him off his rout and stay in his face while
he tries to get back on the route, and if hes trying to block you smack his arms off.
@VivaLaChase21 size does not really matter in football trust I tackled people 3times my size down only thing is that some1 with more meat can tackle some down faster if they get a grip on them & some1 who is skinny will take alot more strength & speed to bring some1 big down thats it but size does not matter I seen 190 pound guy play line & out play 300 pound line men & push them back i seen 150 pound RB break many tackles through 200 to 300 pound guys football us about skill not power much
I play CB for my JV Team, it's a very fun position but boy does it require some freaken work. Its very tought and competitive spot. I am very happy to be a Corner
My 2009 Season Stats: 8Int. 3 Forced Fumbles. 45 Tackles. 25 Pass Deflections
Team Was 6th in the state in Defense. Because of me. I was also the Suburban Councils MVP.
I actually have been working my son on the 2nd two of these drils now for about 1 1/2 years and it's made a huge improvement in him. his positioning on the field and control have all made a huge impact on him... and he's only 10 years old! just check my football vids... this spring we will incorporate the first drill will simoultaneous form tackling at "thud"
these drills are key for becoming a better cb. but i noticed something that could help you a lot more. Im a junior in highschool and my coach was a starting Cb at WVU. in the second drill we call it speed turns and when you back pedel and spin. swing your elbow to spin you around. it will spin you around much faster trust me.
Lol I've been doing these drills all my life every level does these drills
and if it's man to man coverage then I usually like to press becuz I feel more comfrotable that way and I hav the ability to catch up to recievers but if your say 5-7 yes away frm the wr wich is the average all u hav to do is make sure u can turn ur hips and run with him i'm 14 in the 8th grade I had two games this season with 2 int in each playing this position is all about footwork, speed and accleration
you gotta go get him right away. If you let him come to you, he will have to much time to make a move on you and break your jam. Get him at the line and get him off his route ASAP
Either way you can be screwed. The whole idea of jamming is high risk high reward. If you do it right, he is completely shut down. If your wrong, you get beat deep. Its a matter of if you think you can jam him good enough to not get beat
depending if your playing canadian or american rules canadian you have to be one yard off cause thats how close you cna be to jam i know in our league anything after that one yard seperation is illegal and cant jam i dunno how exactly it works in american ball but its all so diffrent depending on what kind of d your running
@offensivebackofyear jam means to press the player right? if i remember right you can press somebody up to 5 yards after the line of scrimmage for the NFL.
yeah im an ass for sticking up for myself when your the one who started talking shit, and coming from your name you sound like a 23 year old loser whos still crazy about linkin park and lives in your your parents house still get , cause you can proov alot of by talking trash through your computer keyboard get a life and dont start shit on youtube
yea that never worked for me. the one time I tried it in a game I got burned for a 60 yard touchdown. I usually just jam really hard because guys get really fucked up with that unless they're extremely quick.
trust me when you get good at cornerback, it is sooo fun. I played running back and corner last year and running back sucked dick. you get hit every single play, and I prefer being the hitter.
I also playied as CB and Running Back, and I love it. As CB you can hit the offense, and as Running Back the Defense! And if your blockers are good and you do your part you score that easy.
If you hear what NFL players say, Cornerback is one of the hardest positions. You are hero or villan, one mistake and you loose the game, if a lineman miss a tackle or don't do his job propperly there are 10 players to make the play, as CB, if you are lucky enought you have the Safety to help you.
you you are absolutly right. A perfect example is this kids highlight tape, search "Ohio's top Cornerback", he is makin open filed tackles and hawking people from behind.
All I would add is that he needs to drop his butt when he first starts out doing his backpedal. Then when he comes out of that then you can stand up straighter. No matter its a very difficult position to play, physically the toughest on the field. CB are the best athletes out there and they don't get near the respect they deserve. I would love to see a WR try to play corner. Just one....
@ripperduck you are absolutely right, but there have been many cb/wr athletes...just think about alot of cbs in college used to be wr but couldn't catch...now to be a successful cb in the nfl thats another story...only wr i know that has done is was troy brown with the patriots...
@weedhero102 I played WR in my sophmore year, and now i play corner (junior year) And i noticed its a lot more difficult with the footwork and cardio.
@weedhero102 Absolutely true about the cardio! A cb has got to have the ability to not only run fast, but run fast and for a long time as well. CB's are the guys who chase down that RB/WR who has broken free and since we are often on the other side of the field from where the play is going, we've got the angle to catch the other dude. But it can't be done unless your stamina is very good. CB's are and must be the best conditioned players on the field.
@ripperduck WR would actually have a decent shot at playing corner because they know there enemie. They know everything about the guy there facing because they have been in there shoes. If they could get the basics down I think they would do a good job as a CB
@richrichard350 That would be a CB to WR, not a WR to CB. I would think that a corner could be a receiver in that they are better athletes as a group. But I would love to see a Moss/TO/ Ochocinco/Rice playing the corner....
@23Luwie Damn at your height it must be tough to do the backpedal. You must be one hell of a player, because to drop your center of gravity is tough enough when your less than six fee. But with your stature its even harder. All props and respect to you,
@ripperduck i am a WR in high school and i also play corner on d and i had such a tough time learning the position cause ive never played corner before it is such a athletic and tough position to learn
thanks for the tips. the only problem i have wen i play is reading the plays weather its a sweep, reverse, or pass... but ill definitely do these drills
ya but if you can do it without turning your foot sideways it can give you a better advantage to cut a certain direction because a wr will probably block you
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he said at the end "im here to teach you to become a better QuarterBack" fuck you we want someone whose actually played football to do these not a washed up scrub.
i don't think you understood what i meant. i meant if you take extra steps. your giving the ball more time to reach the reciever. instead if you plant and break for the ball, the reciever might be caught by suprise and drop the pass, or you might tackle him for a short gain. or interception or deflected. just depends on how quick ur moving.
what your saying is, if i plant my foot in the ground its going to scare a receiver into dropping a ball? again i'd rather break down and make a sure play then risk giving up a big one by slipping or becoming off balance... a big thing that happens when you plant your feet is you dont get good height when you jump, so your basically just giving up valuable postioning on a receiver.
on that first drill, once your ready to break for the ball, plant a foot on the turf and run, don't take multiple steps. im starting to think im a better corner

if your playing press coverage
iz it better to attack the reciever at the snap?
or to line up about 2 or 3 yards off n wait til he comes to you b4 you jam him?

depends on your arm strength! If you can't pop them hard off the line then you'll have to give a yard or two cushion...
