Allowed yes, better no. Asphalt is more likely to be consistently flat and smooth. The skids are allowed to flex outward more on asphalt too, which is what they are designed to do when the hit the ground. Hard metal shoes on the bottom of the skids generally protects the aluminum.
Probably because the air speed is so low at the end of the flare the natural position of the ship is tail low so the back of the skid hits first causing a bit of rocking. A bit faster at the end of the auto could help run it on flatter with more slide but generally the full touch down is to the spot. Better to have the back of the skids touch first than the front to prevent any "tipping". I'm sure the airframe, skids and mounts can all handle it. Just think what these airframes did in Vietnam.
@notar1 The design, although well proven, wasn't a success. Who is going to send a derelict UH1H airframe back to Bell plus $3m USD to have it rebuilt into a certified civil airframe when a standard 205 can be made into a 210 for less then the 210? Great ship though, guess Bell needs to reinvent new designs thats not based on the 206 or Huey series.
@euroastar350 why mess with something that works and works great! as an arial fire fighter the 212 and 205 are great ships! i got to work with a 210 from minute men avaition, the ship performed a lot better at higher altitudes then the 205 or 212. sure the cost sucks, but if they can afford it, go for it!

Would it not be better for the aircraft to skid on the grass? or is this not allowed?

Don't you want to straighten out and set it down flat on the skids?
Seems to me the rocking would but a lot of strain on the airframe.

@wa22030
True fact about the Vietnam comment..I guess these things we're time tested so a little bit of rocking won't hurt too much.

@euroastar350 The 210 is simply a UH-1H(205) with a -703 1800hp engine, its the same as the Huey II!

Ahh the rare Bell 210, such an elegant design only to be eliminated from the product lineup.
