I just saw pictures on the Opacity website of the razing. The indoor pool is gone, as are several buildings. I especially liked that bridge over the outdoor pool. What a fabulous place this must have been in its hey day. Thanks for posting. Janice M
This is very sad to see. I worked there for two summers, they were the the best summers of my life. I made so many friends up there. Kills me to see this......
This is nothing new and has nothing to do with politicians. The Catskills and other mountain resorts started dying in the 1960's. The Catskills, Adirondacks & Poconos thrived at a time when people left the city for a vacation that took a few hours to drive or could travel a day by train. Affordable airfare and new resort destinatons are what made it all happen. People wanted something more and something different. They found in in California, Florida and Las Vegas among other places.
Unfortunately people have been setting it on fire lately so it will likely have to be tore down at least he got there before the assholes started doing that
@wrather What is the name of the place where you honeymooned? I've explored the poconos a little and I'd love to find some more resorts. It is very sad the way these gems are being left to rot. Thanks for watching my video!
this is an awesome video, very sad, though. i love the before and after shots, certainly one of the best vids on you tube!! i come back often...oh,and the background music is the bomb!!
@mss1953 The reason it closed is the same reason all the other hotels in the area closed. The catskills stopped being the fun place to go on family vacations, once flights started getting so cheap. Why go to the catskills when you can fly to europe or the other side of the country. Even if it was owned by a small, loving company, it would have still had to shut down. You can't keep a hotel open without any guests.
why is all the furniture thrown around in abandoned buildings? is that from ppl going in and throwing everything around, or is it from weather getting in, or what is it?
This is extremely sad to see, I felt emotional watching it. It looked so beautiful, and to see it... neglected, forgotten, ignored.. and decaying... it's sad as hell :( Beautiful video, excellent music choice for sure.
@mss1953 you can tell this place was the pimpnezz when it was in its prime...sucks it got closed...we NEVER had places like this here...the most awesome places with great people and memories are closed without a thought around here...just to make way for stupid shopping malls and other stores that arent even really wanted...america is going downhill...it will be filled with so many useless stores that we will bankrupt ourselves and be too fat to even care...its sad...and yes i live in america...
The pics are depressing.I would have loved to have gone swimming in that pool and ice skating in the winter time.Little hotels like this don't have much chance of coming back, esp.with the economy and most want to go to bigger resorts .
It is a shame to see these places go, I used to stay at the Stevensvills for many years, we were at the Pines twice as well as the Nevele... All gone now, those memories can never be replaced nor can those times

Such a shame, looked like a great hotel in its day! What has happened to the place since you did this video? also how do you get inside? do you break in or something?
Great video. Very well done. I enjoyed it immensely. It is a shame that these places have been left to die. Whenever I watch these videos, I think of all of the men and women who built it, worked there for years and the people who have memories of having stayed and visited. If I had enough money, I would buy them and fix them up so that people could enjoy them again. Maybe one day.
Oh my g-d! My parents used to take us there every year until my grandparents got sick and we couldn't afford to go anymore. I had no idea this happened to it!
@brothaman007, That is a photo from when the place was open. There are no lights on anywhere, it would have made the basement a lot easier to explore though.

Had the best summers/winters of my life at the Pines. Worked in the day camp and at the front desk. Lived across the street in the Fiesta and the Holiday. This video makes me so sad. I wish my son could have an experience like that, but sadly it seems those days are over.
The Pines eventually closed its doors in 1998, and is now owned by Fallsburg Estates, LLC. The lack of roof maintenance has caused serious damage to parts of the buildings, and the structure is rapidly falling apart from the freezing and thawing of the seasons.
Built in 1933, this ski resort was once a popular resort in the Catskill region of New York. Many buildings have been added on as the facility expanded over the years, and the hotel boasted an ice skating rink, fully equipped theater, golf course, baseball field, conference center, and both indoor and outdoor pools.
@sexykid965 I doubt that, theres only been one or two deaths there and they were both natural causes. To be honest I don't know, but who knows maybe it is or maybe its not.;)
And people wonder why the economy is not doing any good. This place could have at least hired a hundred to two hundred people. what a shame especially for the people in this community.

@wrather I thought I was the only one being monitored by You tube most of the time I get "error" or message waiting for approval ! I sometimes think what's the point coming on here if most of my comments have to wait for approval or error ( I'm not posting offensive messages' but I have noticed if I include the words Pakistani/ Indian immigrant in my comments they won't get added to the comments.
Acctually the Pines Resort closed in 1998.Nothin has been mentioned about demolishing it. Thank goodness. But they said the roof are in nots so good condition because of the owners not repairing them like they should. I have read about the owners are trying to get money so they can repair and reopen it again. that would be great .
It is still standing. I drove by it with some friends at night. We wanted to go in, but they had now locked the gates....our headlights would have been obvious, etc.
i was there last yr...place has been set on fire quite a few times since the hasidics bought the place....they just let it rot. when they bought it in the late 90's the pines was recently outfitted with a 100,000$ kitchen and it all went to hell real fast....bums living in there setting fires to stay warm, kids playing paintball and jewish flames over and over.
Hollywood was supposed to be located there but the developers relocated their plans to california...and killed sullivan county!
I grew up in the Catskills. I remember all these places, in the heyday. Sad to see them all gone now. Concord, Grossingers too. My mother owned 4 restaurants there . One in a town called Roscoe. I am getting old...sad.

It's not the owner's fault. Times changed, the generations who made these places popular, died off, or went to Florida, The Bahamas, and else where for their vacations.
I just ran across this video, and it made me depressed. I stayed at this place as a child in the 70's on a trip to visit my Grandparents. It is a wonderful memory... why did they abandone the place? It was packed when I was there.
It's listed in the credits at the end, I even gave you the website where you can find it. Go ahead watch the video again, haha. Thanx for watching at all, though!
What you have done here is more effective and powerful than Grey Gardens or tours of dead malls. Without a single word being spoken, you have told a story... from its hopeful beginnings to its heartbreaking conclusion. The music perfectly fits the story. Really, this is one of the best videos I've seen in a very long time. Great job!!!
Very, very sad...lonely effective music. Why have the good times/places faded into oblivion. We don't seem to value fun anymore. All we seem to have now is empty malls. Thanks so much for posting. It will be one of my favorites .. I think it says a LOT.
there isnt exactly security, but someone does monitor the place. i've heard the cops in town are kinda sick of people going up there too, but i haven't been up there in over a year.
depressing...my family used to frequent the Nevele, the Concord, Browns and Kutchers. From 18-21 I worked summers at the concord....and many times partied with my friends at the Chalet in the Pines....This is unreal...
I bet that place holds a lot of memories....

I just ran across this video, and it made me depressed. I stayed at this place as a child in the 70's on a trip to visit my Grandparents. It is a wonderful memory... why did they abandone the place? It was packed when I was there.

how can someone just abandon a place like that?

It's listed in the credits at the end, I even gave you the website where you can find it. Go ahead watch the video again, haha. Thanx for watching at all, though!

Thank you, I learned the melody while I was messing around one day and it reminded me of this video.

Nice video. It totally reminds me of the game, Silent Hill Origins. : Ø

Very, very sad...lonely effective music. Why have the good times/places faded into oblivion. We don't seem to value fun anymore. All we seem to have now is empty malls. Thanks so much for posting. It will be one of my favorites .. I think it says a LOT.

i was wondering if there is any security there or can you just walk up there.. i am going upstate next month and would like to see this place.
Nicki722 2 years ago
there isnt exactly security, but someone does monitor the place. i've heard the cops in town are kinda sick of people going up there too, but i haven't been up there in over a year.

depressing...my family used to frequent the Nevele, the Concord, Browns and Kutchers. From 18-21 I worked summers at the concord....and many times partied with my friends at the Chalet in the Pines....This is unreal...
