@jacksmeadow Many different suppliers over many years really. My dagger comes from Tod's Stuff but the belt and puches are from re-enactment fair traders that I no longer remember the names of, and I can't vouch for where the other guys bought theirs. Your best bet would be to go along to the major re-enactment fairs during the summer season where all the best traders can be found. Sorry I can't be more specific.
@bigbowbrum I started to look for suppliers on the internet but I can't find any with what I am looking for. I live in the US and I was wondering if you know of any suppliers of medieval archer items such as leather belts, pouches, and dagger scabbards. Also a cloth not leather medieval quiver. I want everything to be as realistic and as close to what it looked like back then. I know I am asking for a lot but if you could help me I would be very very thankful.
@jacksmeadow Hello Thomas. I am really pleased to hear that you want to get yourself all the equipment and look as authentic as possible. Good for you mate! That would be really easy if you lived in England, but I am sure that with a little time spent on Google there must be suppliers of that kind of stuff in the US too. I will have a quick look myself and send you any links I find.
@jacksmeadow Have you tried 3 Rivers Archery? They are based in the United States and have a lot of archery equipment under their Primitive section that is aimed at people who recreate midievel archery.
@jacksmeadow Also, checkout MedievalCollectibles, they have some pretty neat apparel and other trinkets like pouches, cool belts and stuff. Have fun, you'll love what you get once you get it!
Super viewing,,the soundtrack,,pans,,stills ,,all thoroughly enjoyable,,thanks for sharing!..my favourite looking bow was the orange one,,(osage?) gorgeous colour!
@TXClasic My best distance off my 90lbs Osage bow is about 215 yards with 60g war arrow, and 270 yards with a light flight arrow. I could probably do more with my yew bow but I haven't tried. Sorry, but I don't measure in metres.
@bigbowbrum Good work!!my englis is elementary only:(,what I dont understand,it google translate help me. 270 yd---246m,215yd---196m,good luck with your nice hobby, and what do you think about modern hunting bow like PSE OMEN,do you use this bow, too?
@TXClasic Some of the bows were bought from other bowyers, but some were also made by Ben Perkins of Barebow Archery who features in the video. The guy with the beard.
@TXClasic Sorry but I'm afraid I don't know anything about modern hunting bows as I only use traditional longbows. Your English is good enough to understand, and that is all that matters my friend! Best wishes.
A million years ago I asked you guys if you had thought about attaching a camera to an arrow and you replied that you had thought about it. Did you ever get round to it?
@DumblyBrilliant Yes we did but the results weren't great as the arrow spun really quickly due to the camera throwing it off balance. We will try again though someday.
@leonardo1480 For the Copped Hall event we were approached by the organisers and asked to do a show there. Other times we hear about the events from friends and simply register with the organisers. The more we do so the more events we hear about and the more well known we become so people will automatically ask us to do something for them.
@NICKarrowman Unfortunately Martin had to work that weekend but this will be an annual event for us so he will get his chance next year. Needless to say he was absolutely gutted! :)
@perran87 All our arrows have medieval-style heads so that we can use them for penetration tests and for showing to the public. We don't have any with specific target piles. The arrows we were using in the video are a collection of Norman-style needle bodkins, and medieval type 9s, type 10s and "plate cutters". Most are hand forged but some are cheaper machined types. They can all be a bitch at times to get out of dense straw targets like the one in the video! :)
Steves bow at 2.20 is a very old bow, which has been a training bow for three members of Free Company of Aquitaine . This bow has been used extensively and has suffered a little for it. It still weighs up at 90Lbs @ 32" though, so not quite time for retirement.
@BehindTheString It was a lovely flat scrumpy (cider) that was made just that very morning. It was incredibly strong and it went straight to our heads! I'm not sure whether it was detrimental to our shooting or whether it actually improved it, ha, ha.
@MILOSLAVJMP (Google translate: Beautiful video, beautiful music, great archery). Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Best wishes to all our Czech archer friends.
@GamerDudester I am still waiting to get some maille. It looks like the armourer has forgotten us but one day we shall do a proper test. I am as interested as anyone to see how it reacts.
@bigbowbrum Haha yep! Please make it proper? Leather and Gambison and all. You see I am essentially trying to modulate reality with this game I'm working on and I want my archers to be as fast/accurate/deadly as they were in the medieval ages. Can you please talk a bit about rate of fire in a standard battle, how accurate an archer is at various yards out and obviously, the deadly part will have to wait for the maille =)
Keep up the great work, and say hi to the lads for me! Cheers!
@Mububban23 Yes it does have quite a bend doen't it? I didn't notice at the time. My yew bows don't seem to suffer in the same way. Perhaps it's because the wood is denser or maybe Steve just shoots his bow a lot more often than the 2 hours a week I shoot mine. Thinking back I reckon all my laminated bows have suffered from string follow more than my self warbows, regardless of the wood used.
Once again another great bit of film there! Thanks for taking the time to put this all together, beautiful surroundings that, We across the pond sure do appreciate it.
@bigbowbrum Sounds Veeery cool mate! be very interested to see how your going to do it, Ive seen some of Mark Strettons fire arrow heads some thing like that, or wrapping of the cloth?
Another great video -- love it. I was definitely not expecting the banjo there. Where you using the 123 pounder for this, or something a little easier to shoot for the demonstrations?
@cbrusharmy Glad you liked the banjo! Later in the day they had a full band playing there, but I was too busy with the displays to get some better footage. I decided not to shoot my 123 pounder that day as all the previous day we had given displays at a Saxon/Norman "King Harold Day" at Waltham Abbey (sadly no footage) and I was already tired. By the end of the apple fair I was shaking just drawing the 100 pounder. Hopefully I will get some footage of the bigger bow at another display.
@cbrusharmy That's what we said. 2 nights of camping round the fire with great mates and fellow longbowmen; eating, drinking and chatting, all the while in full kit and surrounded by bows, arrows and other weapons. Absolute bliss! :)
Good old fashioned burnt toast.
