  • 26 people weren't hugged enough as a child.

  • daam he jumped into his solo like he was runing from the law

  • @lior13xlr What you said...I like that!

  • The Art Blakey school of Hard Bop. Is there any great hard bop jazz musician besides Dizzy that didn't get their start in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Art was one of a kind!

  • That is NOT Cedar Walton, looks more like Bobby Timmons - the guy who wrote "Moanin'"

  • Talk about having a groove when you play and ur talking about the king of groove himself, freddie hubbard!

  • What happened to the other solos??

  • i dont believe dizzy said that. dizzy is a class act, if he did not like you, you would not know.

  • thumbs up if ur here because u already knew about this song long before the American Idol singers did it

  • @xCerealKilla I am an art blakey fan from my early 20's. I am 41 and don't watch TV.

  • Nothing beats the Lee Morgan version, of course, but Freddie Hubbard comes close xP

  • Dig!!!

  • what the hell has casey & haley & kenny G got to do with this performance?

thumbs up if you're here because of JAZZ MESSENGERS!!

  • @michalskij

I've got no idea of who kenny G and the others are....obviously here for Art and the Jazz Messengers....

  • FabFreddie.

  • @ox092 REAL JAZZ!

  • @01rai01 sorry I mean't to Freddie Hubbard and The Jazz messangers

  • Chill the fuck out.

  • Freddie Hubbard is nothing compared to Lee Morgan. Lee does this song so much better.

  • @mysticmediaprods lee just scrambles his eggs differently than freddie, both plates of eggs are tasty!!!

  • Malevich on the background. Wher was this gig?

  • recently heard this song played by casey abrams on american idol

  • LAAAAWD HAVE MERCY!!!.....FREDDY IS SOMETHIN ELSE!!.....ANYTHING ELSE BUT HUMAN.....LOL

  • Probably the greatest trumpet player ever, considering longevity, technicality, and creativity....

  • nobody wants to hear your dumb arsed anger - get me - now bog off

  • Bop forever.

  • People are giving daynelmarzo a billion thumbs up for defending Kenny G? WTF??

  • @ender2999 THANK YOU!!!! Someone said it :)

  • ive listened to freddie extensively. absolutely the greatest JAZZ trumpet player, although i dont discredit greats like Miles, Louis, C. Brown, Marsalis, W. Shaw, and several others

  • FREDDIE HUBBARD KILLS EM!!!

  • Freddie! You're the GREATEST! You will never die in my heart!

  • Now THIS is the tempo!!

  • Thanks for posting this!!!

  • who da hell disliked dis

  • @eatsleeptrumpet this is great!! do you have the full clip?

  • Art Blakey played Gretsch drums ..... nuff said !!!

  • cadeau pour les amateurs de bonne musique

  • Can anyone believe how freddie Hubbard went form black and white tv to freaking Iphones... amazin if you ever looked at it that way...

  • Freddie + Trumpet = Perfection... He's definitely one of my biggest inspirations! Was thinking the other day what would I sound like if cats like Freddie, Miles & Clifford never existed. I'm so thankful for all the love they have given us. @eatsleeptrumpet Great clip!

  • Id let him blow my trumpet. . . :)

  • Ha he quotes "Why Dont Ya Do Right" at round 1:50. What a badass.

  • This tune is a milestone in hard bop, as well as the other version with Lee Morgan. This type of jazz is hot, sophisticated and elegant, all I love in jazz. And Art hammering that swing...

  • 0:54 ...way to make me jump out of my seat Freddie...thnaks...jeez. RIP

  • Freddie was 24 when this video was made. He was the Willie Mays of the jazz world. R.I.P.

  • most incredible solo ever.

  • This song is legendary. One that will never die out.

  • To be 24 years of age and play that well is awesome.

  • Yeeeaaaaahhh! Great solo by Hubbard!

  • Amazing! Freddie Hubbard was only 24 years old!

  • Art Blakey. Too Good.

  • Freddie 's tune is great from this time.

  • How can you argue when this unreal jazz is happenin. Come on guys, just admire the greats and use it as inspiration, not bait for arguments.

  • hey eatsleeptrumpet, I think it's time to clean up all the negative comments from the otherwise great video.

  • hahaah SWEEETT!! this is good music!! good old jazz man! love it!

    -vikesh

  • why is video alwayscut off after freddies solo?

    ^_^

  • curtis fuller, alive and well, still great

  • NIce

  • Love this older jazz!

  • Saw these guys live at Birdland in 1961.

  • fantastic music ^_^

  • this is the original moanin. although the later version with lee morgan instead of freddie hubbard as the trumpet player is more famous. and lee morgan's solo on there is better than freddie's. but freddie is still my favorite trumpet player

  • Comment removed

  • That is my favorite solo from any song, he's amazing on that track.

  • @LeatherNipples11 didn't freddie come after Lee Morgan?

  • Who cares who came first, they both groove incredibly. Insane, this is a great video. If anyone wants to know where you can still find original jazz vinyls try GEMM . com. Good source for Japanese reissues too.

  • @LeatherNipples11

lee morgan is before freddie dude, 30 seconds on the inernet would help ya out i think. benny golson and lee morgan is way different than freddie with shorter.

  • @mattrmpt haha golson plays sax, where did he get into a convo about trumpet players

  • @Davdan9595

look at leathernipples11's comment up there and maybe you'll wise up

  • ho yes!!

  • yeah... haha. not "so what" at all... def moanin... they would sound alike to a beginning jazz musician though i guess..

  • this song is actually called "so what"...too which some may respond ,"so what?"...can you diggit? I knew you could. Moanin' is Mingus

  • Yeah, this is definitely not So What.....Its Moanin by Mingus....

  • It's actually Moanin by Bobby Timmons.

  • No you idiot. This is the original moanin'. Mingus did his version later.

  • Awesome!

  • A great example of how I feel like I was deprived as a youth of the best music. Being white, I never heard this. Used to see Armstrong some on TV. Got into Miles MUCH later, Parents just never had it in the house. I thought jazz was by whites like Brubek. I WAS RIPPED-OFF. I DIDNT HAVE A CHANCE TO GROOVE AND LEARN THIS STUFF! Used to live in Chicago in 1962, the best "black" music of all time was just down the street, but we never heard it!

  • The song ended way too soon, It was groovin' hard....

  • When was this? Judging from the black and white it was the 60s?

  • @acapps99 1962

  • Freddie is so hard man, but Wayne and Curtis are no lightweights either. I was sad when this clip ended before the song did, but far out solo.

  • i cant believe people are arguing on this when just above is some of the greatest music written being played by the dopest cats ever.

    CHILL OUT:WATCH:LISTEN:ENJOY

  • This shit is real.

  • Burnin...

  • I think Freddie might have to be my favourite trumpet player

  • sounds like aristocats themesong.

...that actually made me intrested in jazz a a kid.

  • daynelmarzo,,,it is a great thing that you have so much passion...please, try to channel it in a more constructive way,,,if you can do that, you will be doing yourself and the world a favor...other than that,,,medication time....

  • what the fuck?

  • I was not talking to you so you know what....stick your toungue up your ass.

  • fuck..is the first time someone tells me something negative about me and i agree....Yes, I agree with you, i have some anger problems....it pisses me off that mediocre people call themselves the best, it pisses me off that nosy people interrupt in my conversations, and it pisses me off stupid people so yes...I'm an angry person...i can live with that.

  • I think i'll take your advice...:peace.

  • @daynelmarzo your gay

  • @daynelmarzo Hey man! Everyone gets angry--it happens...

...Bless you my man. Bless you.I've heard a nasty rumor that Miles Davis could get angry too! LOL!

Swing hard and bop till you drop dude...too cool.

  • @Guitfiddlejase LOL yeah man i got real pissed at some dude saying this song sucks or something like that lol

  • No argument man. But I'll tell you what...sometimes to communicate with someone you DO have to get at least a bit on the level they're at...it's called Resonance...and then hopefully be able to elevate. Pontificating or talking above someone's head, or preaching, or hoping, or whatever does not get thru to people, so rather than just abandoning them, you try to make the connection and then bring it Up. Does that make sense? I hope so. Be well.

  • I'd talk to anyone the that way if i think they are fucking assholes....I just have my ways of expressing myself, just because I curse doesnot mean I'm not a gentlemen...i don't curse at everyone thou, just at people i'm angry at.....and if you tell me you've never ever cursed in your life...you're a liar.

  • killer shufflle!!!

  • People - Please. If you agree, disagree, like or dislike, please be civil. I come to this site to check out great music played by great players of all genres. I value a spirited debate, but what is the use of profanity and name calling?

  • @phgp527 I agree. So much hate is on this page. Its sad. Then again, its youtube. Not a jazz forum.

  • hey everybody...don't even bother checking number1trumpet's videos out...... they suck, that's gonna be a total loss of time..It's just a lack of respect they call themselves jazz players....I'd rather listen to my grandma singing than these guys play, they play horrible.

  • I have nothing against them...i just hate that they spam many jazz videos with their bullshit..calling themselves the best.... they're are not even that good.... It's just my opinion, don't take it personal..I just don't like their videos and you can check their channel and check the comments...many guys agree with me.

  • Ok....I'll go check it out...but to be sincere what bothers me the most is that you guys call yourselves number1 in all your accounts...It's really disturbing because you guys are not...It's a lack of respect calling yourself number1saxophone when there are people like Kenny G...etc etc....People go see your videos with a different perspective, hoping to see something out of this world, but to their surprise, your videos are not amazing, they might be good but you guys are not even close to

  • being the best in anything.

  • @daynelmarzo

if i am understanding your statement correctly, you're saying kENNY G IS A LEGITIMATE CONTRIBUTOR TO THE ART OF JAZZ? you are degenerate dunderhead if so

  • @mattrmpt I'm not saying Kenny G is a contributor to jazz I'm saying he's one of the best sax players in the world...you can have a different opinion but that doesn't make your opinion better than mine. So, Mr...grow the hell up...The fatc that I have a different opinion than you is no reason to call me names..that just shows at what level you're at, and I'm not going down there.

  • @daynelmarzo

    and you should die.

  • @daynelmarzo

and for a person who claims their favorite celebrity is sylvester stalone?? hahaha, i hope that you amuse me with a retort.

  • @mattrmpt what the fuck does the fact that I like Sylvester's stallone's movies have to do with what we were talking about?...you immature empty brained freak!!

  • @daynelmarzo KENNY G sucks!!! or do you mean kenny garret???

  • @bwvbach Kenny G might suck for you...but for the people who know about music they'd say he's a great sax player...You might not like his music or his style but if you say he ain't a good sax player....you're just a fucking hater.

  • @daynelmarzo its alright i get it... you have no taste

  • @bwvbach dude...the fact that you don't like kenny G that doesn't mean people who like him have bad taste!!..Please grow the fuck up, you sound like a fucking 5-year-old for fuck's sake!!

  • @daynelmarzo The people who know about kenny g know hes a horrible musician and gives a bad name to jazz

  • @bwvbach you're stating your own opinion as a fact. please grow the hell up and state your opinions as what they are...YOUR OPINIONS... Kenny G has sold millions of singles....you think he has accomplished that because people think he's a horrible musician?..give me a break....He gives a bad name to jazz?..he's not even a jazz player you dumb fuck..his main style is not jazz...listen to his cd's.

  • @daynelmarzo No because he's terrible haha.

  • @daynelmarzo When Dizzy Gillespie was asked about Kenny G he said that Kenny G took something beautiful like jazz and defecated on it. THAT'S WHAT I THINK OF KENNY G. Kenny G isnt a musician, hes a sell out

  • Comment removed

  • @pageandplant1 so true, so true

  • @pageandplant1 agree, but he's still a MUSICIAN. He just has no soul... :)

  • @gemcclintock wow. can't believe I just defended Kenny G. God help me...

  • @daynelmarzo

I've read this and your other posts. Please back up your claim that Kenny G is one of the best sax players in the world. Is it just because he held a note for a really long time? Seriously, where are you coming from with a statement like this? I'm not trying to be aggressive here, I just want to know why on earth anyone would make a claim like that and then stick by it.

  • @ELPsteel Why on earth?..Simple...Statistics show that he's the most liked sax player in the world and he's been the only instrument player to ever sell 3 million copies. I'm not trying to be aggresive here, just stating facts....Now I didn't say he was the best...I said he was one of the best in the world. I don't think he's the best either but I have to recognize that in order to sell copies more than any soloist in the world you gotta have many MANY fans...It's common sense dude.

  • @daynelmarzo Fucking Birdy Song sold a few million copies,so does Britney Spears,so does a whole load of other shit.

Selling lots of records is no indication of greatness.

How many records did the company allow you to sell? How many records does the company you work for PUSH on an inflated, unbalanced, unrepresentative market that is almost completely controlled by them?

You are not very intelligent, stop trying to kid us that you are..............

  • @daynelmarzo kenny g..... are you kidding?

  • @daynelmarzo Kenny G....? Are you kidding? How about John Coltrane, George Coleman and Sonny Rollins...?

  • @daynelmarzo Someone needs to drop some serious knowledge on your ass

  • @JazzinTim1 Using an iron anvil from 40 yards up.............

  • @daynelmarzo whoooaaaaaa whooaaa there. did you really just say "like Kenny G"? i was digging your argument until you threw that in there. ignorance.

  • went to go see what all the fuss was about...

number1trumpet is a hack. it's not modern jazz it's just bad.

  • i only hope it's a big joke

  • ..Freddie Hubbard's eternal,great solo...

  • daynelmarzo, I´ve listened to both 'so what' and 'moanin' throughout the years and I do think they have similar structures and melody.

of course they aren´t identical and have their own charm, but hell yeah, they´re quite similar.

  • By the way I believe the pianist TIMMONS wrote this song NOT Blakie or HUbbard. I could be wrong.

  • You're right - Bobby Timmons wrote Moanin'

  • ブレイキーのなかで一番好き!

    Thanks!Great!!!

    あとナイトインチュニジア(night in tunisia)love song!!!

  • I play this song on trumpet. Everyday in class, I beg to play this song. Never get tired of it

  • i love freddie improvisation, simply amazing!!

  • I hate rock....The fact that I'm young does not mean I can't like jazz you motherfucki ng queer, maggot, faggot son of a fucking bitch...you're more ignorant than a jackass. and by the way, YOU FUCKING SUCK!!!!...AND i KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.... Have you taken music theory lessons for 6 years, music reading for six years, music appreciation?..have you studied different styles like Barroco, classicism, romanticism, Expresionism. Impresionism, and all kinds of contemporaneoum music?

  • @daynelmarzo No,you're not 20 yrs old,you're 20 months...........

  • I'm 20 but i know probably more music than you........ I went to a conservatory of music since age 7...so that gives me 11 years of experience in the music field...Jazz?....

  • well, I've been playing jazz since age 13, so yeah I listen to a lot of jazz but I wouldn't listen to you because you simply SUCK ASS!!!...Get your feet on the ground dude, you will never be like

  • @daynelmarzo Fucking spoilt brat,conservatory musicians can't swing from a fucking rope..................

  • Freddie Hubbard, or wynton Marsalis, clifford brown, miles davis, cat anderson, james morrison, dizzie guillespie, Arturo sandoval, rafael Mendez, Jon Faddis, Maynard Ferguson...etc.......they are all better than you will ever be, stop dirting their names and stop calling yourself the best..... YOU SUCK!!! you're just a mediocre WANNABE.........

  • i dont' know why some dummies are saying this theme resembles " So What"...people need to listen to more jazz before talking or giving their opinion about Jazz.

  • Now THIS is good music.

  • fuck yeah! Jazz is SOOO AwesomE!! I'm currently learnin this song on piano. just so much FUN!!!!

  • A lot of wussies (sissies, really) getting their nutz in a twerly twist over a bunch of nothing comments.

Man up, shut up, accept comments as someone's opinion about their own thoughts about what they see and hear, and quit being a sissy, SISSY.

  • Mleyberklee is the one who said this tune's similar to so what, I never said that...that's a stupid comment, go tell him...don't tell me.

  • I think you're talking to the wrong fucking guy you morron!!!... the only comment I posted was one saying Freddie was a beast, another one saying I love Freddie's entry...what the fuck are you talking about?

  • hahahhahaha...... you're just spamming this video to get more viewers...lol fair enough but no THANKS.....I don't want to watch your stinking videos I prefer Rafael Mendez, Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Dizzie Guillespie, Cat Anderson, Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, Arturo Sanvoval, James Morrison, Freddie Hubbard, jon Faddis, Maynard Ferguson etc etc etc....There's a lot of great trumpet players to watch...I'm not gonna lose my time watching a mediocre video of an ordinary wanna be.

  • gd bless you guys! i pray tha if you dont know my savior you will see his love one day! much love and god bless you guys!

  • Classic!

  • damn it i love freddie's entry in the improvisation...very explosive, i love it!!
