There was Part 8 & in it Steven stated that in the orig. edition the Gov agents had rifles (as in Part 9) but he replaced them in later editions with walkie talkies so kids wouldn't get scared that the Gov would go after kids with guns. Steven said he was young and foolish with no kids of his own back then (words to that effect) & men chasing kids with guns is wrong.
In today's paper Steven says he wants the guns back in the movie (in one edition) so not to bow to PC. So he's taken it back.
