after listening to the emi versions , boy, did capital records fuck up the continuity of their albums . 10 songs per record. thats american capitolism at work.3 records out of 2 brittish lp's
Like John said, Rubber Soul IS when it started happening, head music, expermientation, more mature sound, vibe, getting nearer and nearer to the psychedelic period with bands like the doors, jefferson airplane, etc, and they spend all of 5 minutes on that album????? fuckin bullshit. that is FUCKED up. Not too much time on Revolver either, which happens to be my favorite Beatles record, and that is double FUCKED. that is their eclectic album and just perfect. not too trippy, not too nice.
It's amazing what they did with the limited technology (as compared to day) back then.... heck, much of the Twist and Shout LP (which is called The Beatles: Please Please Me in other countries) live - and much of the first half of the Beatles stuff was done on a four track recording system. AMAZING
@switcherxx The Please Please Me album was done with only TWO tracks. Since it was only recorded in mono, they could do a little bit of overdubbing (usually John's harmonica or doubled vocal). The next year (1963) EMI/Abbey Road installed their 4 track deck and mixing console, allowing for some more overdubbing.
I think they chose not to perform live any Revolver song, because they wanted to show to the world that their plans and artistic directions were changing. They were tired of being performers and the records were quite indicative of it.
I don't like how they combined their discussion of Rubber Soul and Revolver. It distorts the chronology a bit. Rubber Soul came out in December of 1965 and Revolver in August of 1966. They should have talked about early 1966 first when they took some time off and the public worried why the Beatles had not released anything (until Paperback Writer in May 1966). Of course, they toured extensively in the summer of 1966 but did not play any songs from their upcoming album.
beatles forever :PP!! haha i just noticed summthin really ironic Circus Krone (munich) was one of the places Adolf Hitler spoke in. And then just 20 years later a english band comes on and sings harmonic music :PP well children thats the irony of history xDDD
to me revolver sounds way diffrent compared to rubber soul I dont get how they think the albums sound the same or vol1. and vol2. revolver has more blueszy type of rock sound and rubber soul is like a folk pop album thats my opinion
it's important to understand that music is also a collective effort: not only a songwriter, but band members, producers, engineers, managers, promoters... people think it's just the beatles but george martin, epstein and the engineers played a fundamental role
Well, just that little moment when Ringo played his drums and the solo followed, I thought it sounded pretty good. I can't say it's perfect but I like it a lot.
Ignorant, true. But probably the greatest vocalist ever. I don't care about your opinion since obviously you're just looking for a way to start an argument.
no, his vocals sucked, when he tried to sing it sounded like he was having a seizure because of how broken up his words are. he couldn't write, he could barely play guitar, he was a fucking glam-rock wanna be and when you think about he had no talent, the only reason he sold records is because he wiggled his ass on stage. yea what a credit to society. i don't want an argument i just think elvis never should have been a music artist
Yes, he was an amazing vocalist and what you've just said is pure bullshit. Sure he never wrote, played or composed music but people bought his records because of his singing, not because of his ass wiggling. As far as I know, you get an audio track on a record, not video. How about this, Pavarotti never wrote shit, never composed or did anything creative, he just sang and people loved him. So you wouldn't call him an artist cause it's practically the same. Something just doesn't add up.
my mind is opened to the fact that elvis made terrible music. well to be fair he didn't really make the music he just wiggled his ass around and made strange sounds while the band played. only in america would such immature bullshit sell so quickly. or for that matter sell at all.
And it sell very quickly and in large quantities all aroung the globe. You haven't told me your wise opinion about my Pavarotti comparison. And stop the bullshit, Elvis probably was the best vocalist ever. You just can't handle the truth. If you don't believe me, check with someone who understands and has studied music.
no i understand. in the 50's it was considered cool to wiggle your ass in such a way, so really elvis is nothing but 1950's answer to soldier boy. his vocals were terrible, he ripped music off of other people and he was a fucking idiot
And you're obviously a person with some sort of mental disability since you can't read well and you insist on saying lies and crap. I'm done with you.
Oh yes, apart from the fact he never wrote music, which is true, you are lying when saying he couldn't sing or he sang like crap. That's bullshit and you know it. Now fuck off and leave me alone.
Good god George Martin can make anything sound like the most historic thing ever. "And so it was on Revolver that we had the track 'Tomorrow Never Knows'." He makes it sound like the rewrote the Bible. George Martin is awesome!
I don't really like how they siege from Rubber Soul straight into Revolver, when after touring the UK in December, 1965 — when Rubber Soul came out — the Beatles took a whole THREE months off before entering the studio to record Revolver. It was also during that time off that the Beatles posed for the famous "Butcher" album cover that was never used. This documentary makes it very clear about the trials of Beatlemania, but they skip the first huge time off from that they all took...
No, Ringo lives in Monte Carlo actually, the wealthiest of Monaco's four quarters, which borders France in the west and the Mediterranean in the east.
Yes I agree with you Lennonpresley. They're both albums in which their music is different from the earlier music, but not yet as different as Sgt. Pepper's. They're like a transition phase.

YELLOW SUBMARINE! :D
One of my top 10 favorites- fun song, catchy, light beat, and Ringo singing it just makes it all the more special since he didn't sing that often.
Come on, folks, type-sing it with me:
In the town where I was born,
Lived a man, who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,
...
obiwanobiwan13 2 years ago
And we sailed into the sun,
'til we found the sea of green,
and we live beneath the waves,
in our Yellow Submarine.
I hope I got it right. LOL

@RockChalk221 Well, Tomorrow Never Knows sounds like the Chemical Brothers, except that it happened 30 years before... ;-)
I'd say it is a kind of historically relevant tune.
Plus, the Beatles happened to write the Bible of pop/rock music, so the air of self importance is totally justified.
Cheers
