Like John said, Rubber Soul IS when it started happening, head music, expermientation, more mature sound, vibe, getting nearer and nearer to the psychedelic period with bands like the doors, jefferson airplane, etc, and they spend all of 5 minutes on that album????? fuckin bullshit. that is FUCKED up. Not too much time on Revolver either, which happens to be my favorite Beatles record, and that is double FUCKED. that is their eclectic album and just perfect. not too trippy, not too nice.

It's amazing what they did with the limited technology (as compared to day) back then.... heck, much of the Twist and Shout LP (which is called The Beatles: Please Please Me in other countries) live - and much of the first half of the Beatles stuff was done on a four track recording system. AMAZING

@switcherxx The Please Please Me album was done with only TWO tracks. Since it was only recorded in mono, they could do a little bit of overdubbing (usually John's harmonica or doubled vocal). The next year (1963) EMI/Abbey Road installed their 4 track deck and mixing console, allowing for some more overdubbing.

I think they chose not to perform live any Revolver song, because they wanted to show to the world that their plans and artistic directions were changing. They were tired of being performers and the records were quite indicative of it.

I don't like how they combined their discussion of Rubber Soul and Revolver. It distorts the chronology a bit. Rubber Soul came out in December of 1965 and Revolver in August of 1966. They should have talked about early 1966 first when they took some time off and the public worried why the Beatles had not released anything (until Paperback Writer in May 1966). Of course, they toured extensively in the summer of 1966 but did not play any songs from their upcoming album.

to me revolver sounds way diffrent compared to rubber soul I dont get how they think the albums sound the same or vol1. and vol2. revolver has more blueszy type of rock sound and rubber soul is like a folk pop album thats my opinion

I'd say it is a kind of historically relevant tune.

I don't really like how they siege from Rubber Soul straight into Revolver, when after touring the UK in December, 1965 — when Rubber Soul came out — the Beatles took a whole THREE months off before entering the studio to record Revolver. It was also during that time off that the Beatles posed for the famous "Butcher" album cover that was never used. This documentary makes it very clear about the trials of Beatlemania, but they skip the first huge time off from that they all took...
