  • round holes are stronger than square ones. squares have corners which concentrate stress and fracture. i would just use round collar bolts to keep from weakening my shield.

  • I used the same bolts for mounting the boss on my shield but I put them through from the other direction so the square bit was in the wood and then peened them onto the boss. Nice job on the dishing though, I need a dishing stump like that.

  • hey to make your life easier you could have used a square punch instead of hand filing those holes. something along the lines of a punch press. you can do any shape with a punch press and with the right knowledge you can make simple dies in your shop.
