  • For future reference: Riding a thwomp is easier if you jump over them, then instantaneously start into a bout of spamming spin-drill-jump-down.

    When you want to get off the thwomp train, time a jump immediately after you let go of your spin-jump, and you'll sail to victory. (maybe)

    Also, for that one part where you get into that maze thing where you have no space to spin-jump, you can actually drill down through it, if you spam jump and drill repeatedly, and I'm running out of characters so

  • Touhou Tidbit of the day!

    Hong Meiling. What's to be said about her other than, through a combination of in-game bugs and 2ch memes, everybody loves to watch her suffer. The "ineffectual" gate guard of the Scarlet Devil Manor (even though Marisa, Reimu, and Sakuya are the only ones canonically that have gotten 'through' her) a bug in EoSD made it so that, unlike other bosses, her name didn't appear when she first had dialogue.

  • That, combined with the fact that the kanji in her name had different pronunciations depending on whether you were reading Chinese or Japanese (Hon Meirin/Hong Meiling versus Kurenai Misuzu) led to fans being in a tizzy about which name was "accurate". Cue 2ch to the rescue, where one of the anons there stated something along the lines of "everyone just remembers her for how she dresses anyway, so just call her Chuugoku (lit. China)". Ever since, she's been the most beloved character in Touhou.

  • I have no idea why she's wearing a Yoshi head here, though, but the censor bar "to protect the innocent" is epically awesome.

    In other news, Raocow, just as a note, that rhythm is going to serve you well in the latter worlds. Tedious stage, awesome boss. The bosses are on X-X-2 and X-X-4 in every world from here out. Which means four bosses, four normal stages per world.

    Though in actuality every one of the Scarlet Devil Mansion bosses is freaking hilarious to look at.

  • You don't HAVE to hold jump when thwomp jumping, you just bounce higher when you do hold it. You can just mash the drill button to ride up the thwomp.

  • The drill jump you're trying to make at 8:39 is actually possible, it just takes precision timing. Fortunately you're at no particular risk of death there as long as you avoid the Bob shots.

  • If anything, 4-1-3 is probably a reference to a Yoshi's Island stage (Although I don't know which one). I'm really confused about 4-1-2. Anytime I see a manga crying girl I don't know who's a protagonist and who's an antagonist.

  • Heh, funny thing about thwomp jumping. I used a similar technique on Letty, she was on the last 2 blocks and I had a broom, so I just spam drill-jumped on her head so she fell in the same spot and died.

    Had to delete my other post due to typo's!

  • I hate mazes on mario like games. :( By the way why don't you try another Touhou games after this one? xD they're just sick. xD I know you're trying to explain the game but i bet you just can't explain anything from the flying Touhou games...

    And I hate pipe mazes, I don't know they just seem to make the game more annoying and longer and don't actually do something for you to have fun. Certainly no game for me! But I like the pink fuzzy Charlies

  • I've recently gotten a little further along in SMW, and I'll at least tell you I'm enjoying the next page (world?) more, so you've something to look forward to.

  • Spinjumping seems much easier in Super Mario World. The thwomp jumping part seemed hard.

  • Seems less 'hard' and more 'needs a good sense of rhythm'. I mean, if it involves hitting the buttons at exactly the same point of the jump, then that's what it logically requires, right?

    Then again, that Thwomp jumping thing did look painful, simply because of how unforgiving it was. You get it a fraction of a second wrong, you go down like a bag of bricks, and even if you have a powerup to take the hit for you, you just lost that rhythm you need.
