From Director's cut DVD - In the original script Seung Yoo was supposed to die. You know - how can a person like him even have a happy ending?! He's a tragic character. You can't let him live happily ever after just because of a fanservice. It was PD-nim who plead with the writers to let Seung Yoo live. I think the blindness is just a small price for rediscovering his heart. The ending was perfect. If he wasn't blind he would never stop his revenge.

@bubblybrook I was expecting a tragic ending but I'm really glad they changed it. This ending is more symbolic and touching. SY becoming blind ironically makes him see past his revenge (I'm still sad that he's never got to see his daughter)

So sad how he never got to meet up with his sister in law and niece. I can image her learning the poem and waiting for her uncle :'(

And I wish we could have caught up with KH and her son.

Tho the ending is very sad because Seung-yoo cannot see how adorable his and Se-ryung's daughter is yet it is a consolation that all of them are living happily and peacefully.

It is interesting that their daughter is jealous because Se-ryung is paying more attention to Seung-yoo.

Soo-yang finally can have that guilt burden lifted seeing SR very happy with SY. So actually Seung-yoo is Royal Consort to Se-ryung.

enjoyed the horse-riding of both of them as that's why they fell-in-love.

How interesting that Soo-yang recognises Seung-yoo (his son-in-law). As in much shock to see Seung-yoo alive, Soo-yang must be happy to know he has a grand-daughter. Soo-yang must be aching and wanting to carry that grand-daughter and have her sits on his lap like his own daughter Se-ryung did when she was young.

I think the reason why SY end up being blind so that he will forget his revenge and start a new life with his wife...this will not hurt SR as she also did not wish to harm his dad..anyway guys..even though he is blind.. he can still see her with his heart...

In my opinion, best drama ever!

The end is not that bad. It's supposed to be Korean version of Romeo&Juliet. The actual ending is a lot more tragic than this.

Not too happy not too sad...it suites the drama well~ At least the couple are together ><! PSH+MCW <3<3<3

I love the messy hair style PSH had when he was wield ng his sword as a warrior. But I also love his hairstyle in the end when he went blind as he looks gorgeous with his beard.

Park Shi Hoo is hot in whatever his style is in the show.

i love this ending... at the very least it didn't make me wonder whether seungyu or saeryeong are alive or not unlike iljimae n city hunter.i have to fgure out myself huhu... anyway, this is the most befitting ending for the drama n i agree with most of the comments here... for me this is like the twist of the original version of romeo and juliet... faking their death instead of making them dead... with this ending, they are happy together, n suyang is relieved of all the guilts. all is well

@Lucel18 its about two guys who were fated to become the duo (friend/partner), the moment they were switch at birth, who wanted nothing but to fix the unjustice corrupted government, making it more diffcult becuz later 1 was to become a police cheif and the other 1, a heroic outlaw (stole goods for the poor)<3

Best friends turn on each other? is that it? is there a love story in there somewhere?.. how was the ending bittersweet? i don't think i'm gonna watch the drama (gotta rest my heart after watching The Princess Man - period dramas get me so emotional ;_;) so don't worry about spoiling it for me :)

@Lucel18 yea they did turn on each other abit near the end...but ther friendship conquer...there was a love story but it wasnt the main focus...i did had a couple (outlaw guy and the 2nd gurL)...the ending left me crying cuz my guy (the outlaw) had to die in place of his duo T_T...so the ending was bittersweet for my couple...making me so miserable...lol...so true, period drama does leave me so drain...thank god for these sexy hot guy actors in these drama though...its worth it to watch them lol

@leanderkane They don't show what happened to them so i guess it's kinda for the viewers to guess. I'm a 100% sure though they're well and fine or else the show would have shown them get killed/captured. The main thing Im sorta left to wonder is if they know that SR and SY are alive since even the rebel ajusshi and the gisaengs think that SY and SR are dead.

YES EVERYONE SY IS BLIND. I just read an article and Park SiHoo said himself that SY IS BLIND at the end. In direct quote, "SY is blind after a failed uprising."

after re-watching it a million times...i don't think SY is totally blind...cuz when he got hit in the head by the bodyguard, it showed his vision getting blurry...meaning that's probably how it still is...cuz it looks like he can still see SR, their daughter, and ride a horse, but just can't see clearly....

@samainee In an article PSH said that SY is blind but I agree with u that at times in the end it seems like he can still see a little. Mayb because he can sense their presence he can look at them. But as for walking, he walks with a stick or somebody is guiding him.  As for the horseriding, well they're in an open field just riding into the unknown so I guess they know that he doesn't need to see just yet and if so then SR can grab the reigns and direct the horse.
