I went to school in Cuernavaca Mexico. The average person has no clue of how beautiful Mexico is. They see photos of poverty and crime and think, this is Mexico. Mexico is a beautiful country with ruins and pyramids, waterfalls and flowers, beaches and beautiful buildings of all colors. The people are gorgeous and very welcoming.

I went to school in Cuernavaca Mexico. The average person has no clue of how beautiful Mexico is. They see photos of poverty and crime and think, this is Mexico. Mexico is a beautiful country with ruins and pyramids, waterfalls and flowers, beaches and beautiful buildings of all colors. The people are gorgeous and very welcoming.

Mexican Independance day is September 16.Celebrating Cinco de mayo is the equivilant of the South celebrating the battle of Bull Run in the Civil War. I would be a little more open to those type of holidays if hispanic immigrants would be a little more passionate about celebrating the holidays of the country they moved to. Doing otherwise suggests they dont want to assimilate.

Heres a few: Battle of El Jahuactal (1863), Battle of Mazatlan (1864), Battle of Tacambaro (1865), Battle of Chihuahua (1866), Battle of Miahuatlan (1866), Battle of La Carbonera (1866). And of course, we can't forget The Siege of Queretaro (1867), where Mexican forces under Juarez finally crushed Maximilian and the remaining French soldiers.

Quick think on Cinco de Mayo, is that it was one battle that the mexican army won against the french. The next day the french came back and really wooped up on the Mexicans. It was not a popular holiday until it was introduced to the Americans, as an excuse to party.

Well I live in Texas and down here it is celebrated. By the way, nobody ever kicked the Mexicans as a "people" out of Texas just the goverment, dumbass. There were many Mexicans or Tejanos that faught for Texas Independence. Mexicans never left, in fact I can't invision Texas without a Mexican influence. Soon the they forgot their shipment of Mayo and got tired of mourning once a year so they changed it to a day of celebration. No one cares about the REAL meaning of the holiday anymore. that day, may 5, it's called the day of puebla's battle, not "cinco di maio" and we don't make parties or somethin like that, and we don't say to everyone "feliz cinco de mayo", that's just dumb, we just make a commemoration for those who gave their lives for our country
