I know about this song, as a young boy not knowing much about it's deep meaning and about Life and Life there after in general. It looks like it's dad's favorites song. My dad (who is still alive, 70) used to sing it even though he was more of a marxsist/communist then than a believer. He knew ever. Now a devoted christian, still sings this song every now and then. So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my mom and dad in 1990 & 1997. I still miss them terribly. I started playing the fiddle 18 months ago. I just wish they were here to listen. I'm the only one out of 5 children who plays an instrument. I played the guitar a little before I lost them. They loved to listen.

The gospel quartet on the old Sunday morning radio show the Old Fashioned Revival Hour, with Chas. E. Fuller, sang this song every week for years. I was always bothered by the idea that earthly life is so awful that we should hope to die to get away from it. I like the song, but I also like earthly life.

my mom used to play Jim reeves and epecially this album as I was growing up
as an more mature adult I can really apprecitate it now
( then it was "their music" and not at all "cool")

We miss you Jim..I'm particularyly happy that Jim was able to make a transition from Country to Gospel music towards the end of his career,and his gospel songs were his most greatest contribution throughout his musical carreer...He sings with an inner conviction...The voice has more meaning than the song itself and in this particular song he demonstrated an unwillingness to continue with this miserable life here,and craved and yearned for something higher and nobler.

Never ever will there be another voice as his, Jim Reeves will forever be my most favorite male singer. He was gifted, and I do belive that the Lord Jesus took him home to sing to him in heaven; God Bless you Jim Reeves and your wonderful wife!

This song means soo much to me at this point in life because it reminds me of my late dad who passed away 2 weeks ago. I remember sitting in the back seat of his car when i was little listening to this song which was his favorite. Now it has come to make sense to me more than ever.
