!I really thank you for posting. It is awesome. I have been looking for McGriff and Crawford's version of "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye and can't find it. If you have it - please, please post it. Thanks in advance.
Hank Crawford has the most hauntingly beautiful tone, the godfather of all modern saxophonists.....Kenny Garrett, David Sanborn etc. they all owe him such a lot!
@gcornielje Always loved Hank Crawford. I saw James Brown a couple months before he had the stroke, at Cache Creek Casino in Northern California, saw him for the first time in 15 years. He did more than a 2 hour show, just tore it up....and he had an alto player who mesmerized the entire audience! Never heard anything like him in my 63 years. A very large Cajun guy from Louisana, maybe 6' 5", at least 300 pounds...Lord Have Mercy could that man play! Cannot remember his name...spectacular.
@calwaite I don't know who the alto player could be, just know Maceo Parker used to play a lot with James Brown! Saw them together a looong time ago: more than 25 years or so...
@gcornielje It wasn't Maceo, of course...come guy I never saw before, but he made Maceo sound like a rank amateur! This guy made an alto sound like a tenor, never saw anything like it. James commented from the stage at one point, when introducing the guy: " For all you people out there who might be thnking of stealing him from me for your own band, I pay him twice as much as anyone ever paid a horn player in history, so don't even think about it." Too cool
Crawford's and DeVos solos sure send me, both brilliant, both put everyone else to shame. Whole group soulful, intense, and really playing the blues---
Love it. Great tone.

For those who don't know, Hank was in Ray Charles' band for several years along with Fathead Newman on tenor.

Could the seemingly all white audience be any lamer?? I'm white, by the way. This is so beautiful. Jimmy McGriff was MY MAN back in the day!
