Cue Gene: "52 Cards, half high, half low. Turn them the right way, and win all the dough! Onnnnnnn CARD SHARKS! And here is your host of Card Sharks, JIM PERRY!!"
@gsn93 Returning?.it never went off.Its ALWAYS been on here from 2am-3am Central. (Bob Eubanks version, then Jim Perry) and has been for a long time now.
@gibsonj338 When I think of the "Double Dare" theme, I always think of the Nickelodeon as Double Dare's theme makes you immediately think of Card Sharks.
As a kid of the '80s, I'm more familiar with the Bob Eubanks version. :) Cool theme though... it was nice for CBS to include this in their Game Show Marathon in 2006.
MG-BT Had a tendency to reycycle all their bells and whistles, like their CBS "dings" where all the same, there NBC "dings" were the same, and their ABC "dings" were the same as well, and we cant forget the "Losing horns"!
If I'm right, Alex Trebek had appeared on "Card Sharks" during a special game show emcee week. At the time, he was hosting "High Rollers". I'll bet it was a little awkward for him being on a show with the same theme music as a previous show he hosted, which was "Double Dare" in 1976-1977.
At the beginning of every show, Gene Wood always said a poem. When Jim Perry came out, he held a card on the left hand while he held a microphone on the right hand. The card read who sent in the poem, where that person is from, where that person is watching and what channel.
Let's not even bring up that godawful incarnation that even dares to call itself a "remake" of the original. Just forget it even exists, unless your a historian or curious like me and want to learn about it.
And you can also make that comment toward the new "remake" of Sale of the Century (another Perry show, as was Card Sharks), called "Temptation." I tried watching it twice, and it SUCKS. And I loved old SOTC too! The only thing you need to learn about it is that it is a pathetic remake of a classic; I guess the only thing that's "redeeming" about it is at least it's better than watching football (I hate football). But I choose to pass on watching both..as long as I have the choice.
Well I've never seen Sale of the Century, but I've seen Temptations. Nevertheless, I don't watch that show. I'm more into Maury and Steve Wilkos on weekday afternoons than anyt'g else.
Thanks for your comment, but a thing about Maury: I used to watch his show a lot, but now it's just nothing pretty much but paternity tests. His show may as well be, "The Who's Your Daddy Show!" Too much overkill. Why not a variance of topics like his show used to be? I miss the "send my kid to boot camp" shows..and Steve, well his show's just a somewhat toned-down Jerry Springer (Steve is head of security for that show).
Yea i feel u on those MoPo shows. Nonetheless I am still used to seeing the paternity eps. As for bootcamp, it seems that jail is becoming a common alternative to that :P
Also, I don't really watch Springer anymore cause it's starting to bore the hell outta me for some unknown reason. I'd rather watch Steve.
I used to watch Springer a long time ago when they actually used to discuss REAL topics, before the bottom fell out...too much anyway. I still watched when it became "crazy", with the fights (before they were banned), but I don't know, I've pretty much dropped most if not all of my talk-show watching habits. ;-)
@CraigFoye80 But I don't like the lose on a double rule in the Money Cards; the Gameplay of Eubanks' Version was better especially @ the Money Cards for one, they could change one card per line and two, duplicate cards were no win/no loss (Push).
@juan833blue You know what? About mid way through the Perry version they changed the rule in the Money Cards that treated pairs as a Push. It made things more interesting to say the least...
@abqwriter And if an Ace or Deuce came up in the Money Cards with the Push Rule, there was NO WAY the contestant could lose with either card and therefore the host demanded the player to go all-in on an ace or a deuce because they couldn't lose.
The show wasn't too fantastic, but what a theme. I could see my marching band plan playing a variation on this in the stands during football games. GREAT stuff.
