Love the Clinchfield Route. George Carter was a brilliant visionary when he took on the challenge of connecting the coal mines of Virginia to the rest of the country with his railroad through the Appalachians. A hundred years later and still going strong. Amazing video footage, btw.
Yes, there is a single crew on the helper. I have a good friend that runs the helpers out of Shelby yard once in a while, but this wasn't him. Most of the crews are friendly and give you a wave , or an extra toot. Thanks for looking, Jack
That's about 16,000 horsepower on just one train. Must be some pretty steep grade up on the keystone divsion. I'm more familar with the alleghany division in west virginia
i got there by parking off the highway, then walking down hill a couple miles. the whole place was a quarry.we stayed there 2 hours and saw 0 trains!!! then we left and when we got to our car 20 minutes later we heard a train go by. oh well, thats rail fannin for ya
I know what your saying. You could spend a day there, but leave, and it will bring a train out of the woodwork for sure. Best to pack some food in a backpack, go in, get a location, and stay till you get something.
i dont get y the helper crew rides the rear engine
