  • Tsuchiya is the ae86 king

  • i'm a sucker for a purple levin 86

  • thats pretty awesome, you can hit the clutch like that?

  • Yeah it's a simple clutch kick. What it does is, it revs up the engine as you step on the clutch obviously, then when you release it, the rear tires logically, begin to spin more and break traction to keep the drift going. They are driving with high grip tires after all.

  • it burns the clutch or ruins it? right?

  • Correct the clutch will eventually break from the consistent tear on it. These are professional D1GP drifters so they have sponsors who can pay for the repairs obviously. You can do this yourself of course, but if you drift a lot it can get expensive doing this. But look at it from another way, drifting actually hurts your car in a lot of other ways, so just the clutch breaking isn't all that bad.

  • Yes. It depends hugely on the clutch.

And it's not always the clutch that breaks. The release fork can snap clean off if it's an older car and has been allowed to rust somewhat.

This is why a good clutch is VERY important in drifting. High burst strength material that can dissapate heat quickly is something to look for. Carbon kevlar, ceramic 3 or 6 pucks.... Twin plates.....etc.... Alot of am drifters in the states run 0S giken clutches. Very expensive but fully servicable and strong!

  • Yeah, that's called clutch kicking. The simplest way to explain how that works is that each time you press the clutch pedal down you disconnect it from the rear wheels, so it can rev freely. As soon as you let go of the clutch pedal the engine (now reving faster) connects with the rear wheels again through the transmission and gives the wheels a quick burst of power which helps break traction (to keep sliding).

Be warned though, this can be heavy on the clutch.

  • i like his style when it comes to the pedal-movement.

  • nice shifting in middle of drift gotta love that car and style
